Called in on the off chance. Haven't been since last year. Crab cakes for her French onion soup for him. Then lobster macaroni for her and mussels with fries for him. All washed down with a few glasses of a good French wine. After a cherry Bakewell tart to share. Presentation and service was impeccable but friendly. The photograph is...

We have just had a disappointing experience at an establishment that we have always rated highly. We were a group of 6 adults one small child and a baby, we arrived for Sunday lunch at 1.30pm. The staff were friendly and It was busy so we expected to have a certain amount of time to wait, however the service was...

A delightful Sunday lunch. A very tasty starter of ham terrine with picallili then really delicious pink lamb and my son had beef which could have been more pink! But was tender and both served with crunchy veg. The Theakeston beer was perfect. I had a yummy creme caramel and excellent coffee. Our waiter was charming, he explained the menu...

We had a really nice night, with lovely food and wine. I can recommend the seafood plater and the chateau briand. The cottages are defiantly upmarket. With tasteful decor. It's certainly somewhere to visit for a night away or if you are looking for somewhere to stay if you're visiting York. We will be back.

Spent fabulous weekend with friends for a birthday party. Location was ideal – easy access for shopping, walking or a city visit. Room was so luxurious and well equipped. All staff were professional and bent over backwards to make sure we all had a good time. No request was too much for them. Would highly recommend for relaxing holiday/romantic break...

On both Friday and Saturday evenings we had excellent service and food in The Durham Ox. I would highly recommend this venue in a lovely old village in North Yorkshire. It has easy access to charming Thirsk and beautiful Helmsley. The accommodation is well decorated furnished and very comfortable. We were in Lavender cottage,my brother and his wife were in...

We had stayed at The Durham Ox on numerous occasions over the past 5 years and decided to hold a special birthday weekend there with a party of 13 in total. Some us stayed in Ivy Cottage and the rest in the Durham Ox rooms. From the minute we arrived the service was fantastic - as there was only 5...

We were recommended this pub/restaurant by the owner of the guesthouse we were staying in a few miles away. We went for a drink on the first night of our stay. It was very welcoming with cosy fires and a friendly atmosphere. We booked for evening meal for the next night. The meals we had were delicious. There was a...

Dropped in here for a bar lunch. The service was pleasant, the menu extensive and interesting: fair value. The Ox has a lovely ambiance with different eating areas, including a new and airy function space; and we intend to return and stay overnight.

I went to the Durham Ox for my sister's 40th birthday party. The area out the back was beautiful - twinkly lights, a large disco ball, funky glass chandeliers - and the staff were friendly. But the best part about it was the food. We had cold beef and ham with potatoes, coleslaw, roasted vegetables and rolls. The meat was...
