Wow! This place is amazing. It's a heck of a haul to get here from the USA. We left Boston, Ma. Wed night and arrived in Male Fri am. We opted to stay the night in Male and complete the journey the following day, as we didn't want to arrive at the resort completely wiped out. I'm glad we did. ~ 1 hr flight from Male to Koodoo airport- the resort gets you checked in, puts you in a comfortable lounge to wait with some food, non-alcoholic drinks and air conditioning. From Koodoo it's ~20 min boat ride to Dhiguragh and they provide a welcome drink of iced tea. The beating drum and fresh made palm fish lei necklace were a nice surprise! Onto a buggy ( golf cart) and check in happens right at your villa. Our personal concierge had already made reservations for us for both specialty restaurants and for High Tea. Then it’s just fantastic! We saw reef sharks and fish just on the way to our villa! Our sunrise overwater villa was gorgeous, clean, wonderful and well stocked. There’s a small lip in the bathroom floor to step down to the toilet and shower. We tripped all the time so we laid towels down to visually remind us of it. Housekeeping changed it out with clean towels and left it down. Nice touch! The guys in housekeeping were so attentive! The Service was world class. Particular standouts were Robin at the Cafe Del Sol and Haftz in the dining room. You can’t pass anyone on staff without a warm, friendly greeting. Food was great. Do not miss High Tea! We almost cancelled because we’re simple folk, but that would have been a huge mistake. We loved walking the beach near the dining room, saw so much wildlife there! The bats were an amazing surprise. The Indian fruit bat is huge, beautiful , and visible all day long! Our best place to consistently see them close up was by the spa. We went “ bat hunting” every day! Not much bird watching, but the bats more than made up for it. The spa was absolutely indulgent! Sunset dolphin cruise was great! Do not waste your time or money on the snorkel trips. Very overpriced and we had better snorkeling behind our villa, under the dock at the dive center on the sister island, and on the house reef. Do not waste your time with house reef orientation. Just have the dive shop staff show you where it is and do it with your snorkel buddy ( wear your vest!) rather than in a huge cluster of people kicking you. The snorkeling trips were my one disappointment, but there they failed hard. I’ve snorkeled Florida, Hawaii, the Galapagos and all over the Caribbean. I’ve NEVER had a guide neglect to instruct us not to touch anything, and not to take anything. It’s snorkeling 101! One of our guides actually snapped off a piece of coral and another stood on coral with his flippers! Then they let a young woman take a large piece of dead coral back to her villa with her. Just appalling. Even if you don’t care about the ecosystem, it’s at least job security to care for the reef which is your bread and butter. It was shameful. I think a lot of people misinterpreted reef orientation as snorkeling orientation. It’s quite choppy at the reef and I saw people out there who had zero business there- losing flippers, standing on coral, makes not sealed properly coughing and choking- it was nuts! And zero instruction other than “follow me”. We actually preferred the pool/beach/ restaurant/ bar area on the sister island- so it’s great to have both options!

Hotel's Favourite
Just returned home after 10 nights at The Residence and would highly recommend! This was our first trip to the Maldives so can't compare to other resorts but we had a wonderful holiday. The journey from the UK was long but straightforward with The Residence staff greeting us at Male and taking us to the lounge to wait for our domestic flight. The resort was definitely worth the tiring journey as after a very short boat ride we arrived in paradise! We were in a lagoon villa which we loved as it was a really quiet, private and peaceful spot yet close to the main restaurant, the gym/spa and bridge to the other island. The room was lovely, really spacious and the pool was much bigger than expected! These rooms get the sun in the morning - if you want the sun in the afternoon you can head to the beach or one of the main pools but it was so hot we were glad of the shade! The food was great - we particularly enjoyed the french restaurant and a la carte in the dining room on the other island, which was the same as the beach bar only with air con and shade which was much needed! Lots of variety and choice across all the different restaurants, and really nice cocktails, plenty to choose from. We used the gym regularly which was excellent and really quiet, took advantage of the complimentary yoga sessions, had a lovely massage at the spa, loved the dolphin cruise, had a castaway picnic on the beach, snorkelled the house reef, attempted paddle boarding and more! We didn't bother with the buggies and cycled everywhere which was great fun. We loved cycling across the bridge and would always stop to watch the fish, sharks and rays below. Loved watching the bats as well! The highlight of the holiday was hiring a jet ski, and the guide found a large group of dolphins. It was the most magical experience just jet skiing and sharing the waves with so many dolphins jumping and playing all around you and coming so close - a memory we will always treasure! The staff were all lovely and friendly, the resort itself was beautiful and it was a fantastic holiday.

Background: This is our fourth time in the Maldives, and we've stayed at the Westin, Conrad, JW Marriott, Fushifaru. This definitely ranks better in value than the Conrad. We had heard about The Residence Maldives Dhigurah from Travelzoo where we bought several vouchers for a 7 night stay in a beach villa and a 5 night stay in an water villa. Getting to the resort and checking in is not fun, so be prepared. Getting to The Residence requires a domestic plane from Male to Kooddoo, which may or may not be direct. In our case, we experienced a delay and a stop at another island so this one hour transfer became a three hour transfer. This isn't the fault of the resort, but the domestic airline. Just be ready to spend a more hours in transit after arriving in Maldives. Once you arrive in Kooddoo, a van will pick you up and take you to the speedboat transfer. We went in October when the seas were very rough. The staff warned us and were friendly, but the 15 minute boat ride was very rough and unpleasant. Some people got sick. Upon arriving, we were tired and excited. The check-in process itself felt a little long, there was a lot of information given and probably could have been printed on a letter. Maybe we were just tired from travel but we couldn't wait to freshen up in our rooms. Pros: The rooms were new, clean, and well maintained. The beds were comfortable and access to the beach was made easy. The house reef here is full of life and color. We saw sharks, turtles, rays, and tons of various coral while snorkeling the house reef. Rather than swimming out from your room, I recommend walking out to the end of the arrival jetty and starting from there. If your villa is on the same side, you can snorkel back to your villa. The buffet at the dining room Dhigurah was reasonably priced and decent quality/value. The ingredients were mostly fresh (except for the shrimp, which were not fresh and tasted mushy). We also dined at the French restaurant at Falhumaafushi and the Italian restaurant at Dhigurah, both meals were well prepared. The Spa treatments in the over water rooms were very nice and professional. The island of Dhigurah is huge, and connected to another island called Falhumaafushi with a km long bridge. We were provided bicycles to explore. For those who didn't want to ride a bike, a buggy was provided. The wait for the buggy can become very long during meal times due to demand. Saw dolphins on the dolphin cruise. I don't know what wizardry they use, but the guide just whistled and the dolphins came and swam next to the boat. Cons: The water is far too shallow in the water villas to actually swim/snorkel most of the time. However you can catch sting rays and sharks swimming around if you're lucky. When it rains, the water villas leak because the door seals don't exist. This is apparently a construction issue and affects all water villas. Just be ready to call for a lot of towels during the rain. A small issue is our hammock broke while I was laying on it. I'm not that heavy (170lbs). Just a small maintenance issue I think should have been addressed during housecleaning/maintenance. Overall, for the price we paid, it was an excellent experience and great value.

Had a fantastic lagoon holiday and Robin from the Beach Bar was a real star who couldn’t do enough to make our time that much more special. Highlights must be the private pool and food standard is second to none.

Everything about The Residence is incredible...from the moment you meet them at the airport to the time they bring you back to to the airport to go home, every aspect of the holiday is incredible. We stayed in a overwater villa, which is on another level to anything that we have ever stayed in before. It is unbelievable. We ate at pretty much every restaurant that they have to offer and everything is incredible, so many options...you can never get bored of the food that is on offer....and so much of it. The pools are all amazing...we spent alot of time there chilling on the sun beds and getting served cocktails constantly. The one thing that makes your stay at The Residence so amazing is the staff...everyone is so helpful and friendly and ready to go out their way to make your stay better. I cant recommend The Residence more to anyone thinking of going to the Maldives

Can not say enough good things about this resort. We decided to come to Maldives in May of 2021 with good friends. After looking at many top options we settled on this place. We had the all inclusive which included meals drinks a foot massage and specialty dining. We booked a sunset beach villa with a pool. Lovely room and setting steps from the beach. They have overwater villas but many didn’t have pools. We liked the privacy and setting surrounded by palm trees. The resort is beautiful…well maintained with courteous and friendly, engaging staff. We were will tended to. Not much to do. A few excursions go out but very weather dependent. They provide snorkel gear and paddle boards and kayaks. Bikes are also provided. Walking and bikes and carts are the only means of transportation. Shuttle buses also run the the neighboring island, one meter away Both islands have spas. We took advantage of free foot massages, discounted massages and yoga on the other island on a pier over the water. It’s very far from our home in Pennsylvania so we were glad to combine it with a trip to Thailand first. We stayed here 10 days. Loved every one! Traveled with friends who had a similar experience!

Everyone is very friendly and helpful to make our vacation a memorable one. One only suggestion and comment is in regards to some plastic found around the island which we proactively cleaned up. You could make all the guests and staff more sensible to preserve the environmental of the islands.

We had the best time on our honeymoon at this resort. The villas were great and the housekeeping was wonderful. We spent a lot of time in the sun and enjoyed both pools. We liked that we could go to either island, it made it feel less remote. We loved having bikes so that way we didn't have to wait on a buggy. Overall, we had a great experience with the staff and resort.
