We stayed here before and after riding El Chepe to Posada Barrancas and Creel. Nov 26 and 29, 2016. What a beautiful hotel! Spacious inner courtyard, very nice restaurant, bar and tables poolside and attractive, well maintained and clean rooms with large bathroom and shower. Pillows and mattresses very comfortable and quiet at night. The hotel is very near the... More

Rip off?!?!!? Its definitely a three star- food mediocre, cement patches in interiors, low water pressure, raggy towels, cleaner coat hangers. Which is all fine when prices are three star- we were there to board the train to the copper canyon and enjoy the town. The problem is the food and specially the drink prices! Over double any hotel/bar around... More

We stayed here overnight with a tour group. It's a beautiful hotel, lush grounds and El Fuerte is a lovely small town. We wish that we had more time to spend there. The grounds were nicely kept, the rooms were clean and the beds were a bit firm for my liking but not hard. The Restaurant was very inviting and... More

We spent one night here our trip to Copper Canyon. A wonderful hotel. The ambience in the restaurant just fantastic, as was the food. Great bar and such an inviting pool. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Zorro - such a tease - but fun. We would definitely return here.

We spent the firsts of 5 nights touring the Copper Canyon. This was our firsts stop. Lovely hotel and Zorro is ever present. At the yellow onyx bar that was lit from underneath (very cool) to the rows of Zorro Tequila, and the statute of Zorro in the gardens, you know they keep this legend alive. We had a lively... More

The physical location and layout of this place is magnificent! In the heart of a colonial plaza area. Beautiful internal gardens. Rooms were impeccably clean and bright. The architecture of the hotel was amazing. Food was really delicious. We had pollo en mole and it was excellent.

We stayed one night at this hotel, it is spectacular. Rooms are spacious, with A/C to beat the heat wave that El Fuerte has, bathroom works like a charm too. The hotel has great hacienda rooms where you can find lots of antiques and nice places to relax, the pool inside the hotel is a nice touch to have a... More

When we booked a week in Copper Canyon, we intended to board El Chepe in Los Mochis. Fortunately, I ran across a blog that said board in El Fuerte instead -- and skip staying in a busy city and covering about 2 hours of unremarkable views before entering canyon country. We found Posada Hidalgo online, and although the "available room"... More

Having visited El Fuerte several years ago our expectations were pretty high. When I tried to drive into the parking lot and basically high centered because they didn't think to build a "moderate" grade. So OK I had to park on the street. I was told "your car is too low", its a 2014 VW Passat. We checked in. Was... More

Posada del Hidalgo is a beautiful colonial mansion. This attractive structure was built in 1890 by Don Rafael Almada, a wealthy and influential "alcalde" (mayor) who spent five years and 100,000 gold pesos on its construction. The wooden trim was made from 285 Canadian red pine beams. Don Rafael's mansion was the largest and most beautiful in El Fuerte. It was built just below the old fort, and has four layers of brick and adobe construction. The iron work was brought from Mazatlan. ... more   less
