Good value and service. Large clean rooms and friendly helpful staff. Centrally located. Could not use the inviting pool because of time pressure. Prices shown on Trip Advisor unrealistic, we paid much less thru Booking.com. Cost of breakfast reasonable.
We had a booking for a quad room made through Booking.com. We booked a quad room as it has a fridge. When we arrived we were given a triple room with no fridge. We showed him the booking a and he asked why we needed a quad room when we were only 2 people. We told him we wanted the fridge. He told us he didn't have a quad room to give us so we said we're leaving. He didn't care.
For the money, around £40 per night for a double room, this is a reasonable choice in El Fuerte, but I wouldn't classify it as a 4 star only a 3 - but this is Mexico. Spacious, plain rooms - ours had a double and single bed, which were comfortable, free WiFi, air con and ceiling fan. No hot drink making facilities, fridge or hairdryer and only a small shampoo and soap. Bathroom is basic and very small. Nice courtyard and easy chairs outside. There is a pool but it wasn't open in March. Breakfast was ok. The usual eggs and fruit but no choices of how you want your eggs and no fruit juice. There were no evening meals available but there are a number of restaurants within walking distance. El Fuerte is an ok town to while away a couple of hours as has a fort with nice views over the river but this is mainly a place to stay overnight before or after your El Chepe train trip.…
Very cool old hacienda. Room was huge. Dinner was very good and the tequila was great. Outdoor square with pool. Quiet place to stay. Breakfast in the morning made to order. Very friendly staff. A little out of way but only a block or two from the city square, the cathedral, and the fort. Take stuff for the no see ems biting gnats.
We stayed 2 nights in this lovely hotel in the center of El Fuerte. For some reason it is in the B&B , but it is a regular hotel and you can order breakfast if you like. The manager, Javier, is very friendly and the place is spotlessly clean, large and airy rooms, great showers, good wifi and beautiful communal area to relax. Call them directly to get the best prices. highly recommended!!
In El Fuerte, most of the hotels are converted from old mansions. This makes for a unique place to stay. The rooms are nice and large, although you can tell they were adapted to current standards of plumbing (a must have for today's travelers!) The water in the shower was hot and the rooms and dining area are air conditioned. Everything was clean and comfortable. We were there during the slow time of the year so had the place to ourselves - at least we never saw anyone else coming or going except the staff, who were most accommodating. There are nice places to eat nearby as well.
We spent a total of 3 nights at Mansion Serrano, 2 days prior to our El Chepe train trip and one night after. We were very comfortable here, and loved the convenience of being right in town, close to restaurants, the plaza and many historic buildings. The hotel is the original home of the owner, and you can't help but feel welcome here. Although this is basically a b&b, we ordered from a menu at breakfast and the food was excellent.
We loved this hotel. Rooms were large and the setting and courtyard very warm. Breakfast was great and the staff very accommodating. The only problem we had and this was not exclusive to this hotel, was the horrible noseeums or bobos or midges. We sat in the courtyard and had hundreds of aggravating bites that lasted a week. We heard from others that the problem is in the whole town due to its proximity to the river. Wear covering clothing and repellent or pay the price.
I stayed here with a friend for one night. It was such a cute hotel. It has a nice location in the middle of the town, by the square and many restaurants. When you walk in, you see a really open space filled by a restaurant on the side, and a pool with a water slide in the middle! Lots of plants and birds fill up the pretty inside as well. People there are very friendly, and helped us get around. The room was cold with A/C (El Fuerte can be very, very hot), a TV, comfortable beds and a nice shower. The room was very cheap and we enjoyed our stay very much. Recommended for sure in El Fuerte!
From the outside it doesn't look much, it looks ok but very unassuming. We were staying with some family, and they had booked here, so we did too. It's very nice inside, lovely staff and very relaxing. Lots of hummingbird feeders which I love and they were quite busy. There is a small pool with slide that the nieces and nephews loved. The older rooms are very nice, high ceilings and lots of space. We stayed upstairs , in one of the newer rooms, they are a bit smaller, but adequate, the tv is in a weird position and we couldn't get wifi there, but they are clean and for the price, very good. There is free wifi everywhere else. It's only a few hundred years from the centre, and we love el fuerte, our third visit here.
