Pros: Rooms big and comfortable Courtyard is gorgeous (attached) Pool area nice and relaxing (dubious cleanliness but it was 36 degrees c) Staff generally helpful (if you can locate them) - the new owner of the restaurant, Diego (I think), was very kind and informative Location is right next to the main square and less than a minute from the museum and malecon etc The much more expensive hotel located 30s away organised tours and does the Zorro show so you can just go there to sort out activities. They also allow use of their bigger pool as long as you buy something Aircon works and is essential Cons: The first room we were given had a ceiling that leaked water onto the socket my charger was plugged into as well as the bathroom leaking (this was during a rainstorm in the afternoon while we were napping) Rooms inconsistent as everything is so old so in our first room the fan didn’t work but in our second the lamp was missing - we much preferred room 2 to the initial one we had Generally very dark inside and windows covered and unreachable so there is no natural light in rooms Breakfast is absolutely awful, my girlfriend loves chilequiles and described them as the worst she has had in 2 years of living in Mexico. The eggs and coffee both cold and flavourless Hotel does not provide transport to and from El Fuerte town so you have to factor in 300$ for both legs to the station which is a complete rip off as it is a 10min drive each way

Nice, clean basic room with excellent shower. Good free WiFi included. A hot breakfast was available for an extra 100 pesos. Two bottles of water included in room. Easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. Friendly, accommodating staff. We used the hotel as a stopover for the El Chepe train. The hotel is a five minute cab ride from the station. I would stay here again.

Went here on a business trip with several of my friends and loved the beautiful architectural designs of the place. Will plan to return again. It could use some updating in certain areas such as air-conditioning but our rooms were sufficiently cool. The staff is very kind and accommodating

It is a bit dark and a bit dirty. Not a place I would choose again. We stayed the first night in a room that was just catastrophic. Happily we could change for the rest of our stay. This place needs a complete lift and clean up. Don't eat there, I have seen how they stored the food ... There are for sure much better places in El Fuerte.

The hotel is located right beside the fort which is in the historical section of town. It looks to me authentic with high ceilings and beautiful colors. Fast hot water and clean room. Average WiFi but lots of TV channels. No restaurant open on site but several within a 5 minute walk. Front desk staff were bilingual. Room was quiet as no noisy road traffic and lots of masonry. Access to the malecon along the river is close by. Bed was good. I would stay there again.

This place has an amazing 19th century Ranchero decor. The rooms are big, and they've got wooden ceilings with beams. Breakfast isn't included, but you can get a good breakfast for 100 pesos per head. The wifi only works in the lobby, and it's a little variable, but basically okay. The hot water is rather variable too, more towards the tepid end of the spectrum. The hotel is just slightly off the main plaza area and there wasn't much noise.

Loved the busy, colorful decor. Many patios, rooms and a roof terrace. The room was large and interesting. The price was given in dollars and the owner changed it to pesos when we arrived at a rate much higher than the bank was charging so we ended up paying more for the room than anticipated. The owner didn’t care what the bank rate was. The employees were nice, but there was rarely anyone at the reception desk if u needed something. Over all, I did like the place. Great location.

Located in town centre adjacent to museum and next to central plaza. Developed over time to reflect Mexican style and culture; a joy. We arrived early at 9am and received a warm welcome. Rooms were made ready within an hour. Rooms are spacious. Our had little natural light which meant it was naturally cool. Exceptional value. This hotel is different to any other that one is likely to come across. It's not perfect in every respect. Minor damage to wall plaster and tiling was evident in our room. Hot water took some time to arrive at the shower. Access to the unprotected flat roof is possible from the upper floor ( not safe for children to explore). However, despite these issues based on character alone this hotel is a must stay.

Reasonably-sized, clean room with comfortable bed. Bathroom (shower) very basic but with hot water. Helpful staff. Plunge pool in the garden too cold for winter use. Colourful jumble of furniture in common areas. Left early for Chepe so did not sample the breakfast.

This hotel is quite a special place. It is decorated by someone with a great feeling of taste and the common areas are amazing too look at, be in and relax for a while. It is an old colonial style house, which is cool even when the sun is burning outside. The pool is small and cold, but good for a dip after a long day of doing stuff. The room was big, the bed was huge and the bathroom was good. The personnel didn't speak too much english (which makes sense since we are in Mexico) but tried to help out. We had a good time here!
