Spent two weeks at this hotel sept 2022. The staff are exceptional from the very talented animation team, the bar staff, the hospitality staff and the housekeeping/gardening. The entertainment was professional and fun. Do not miss the pool foam party, the neon party or the white party so much fun. The room had a lovely ocean view. The gardens were immaculate. Food was abundant and delicious. The best restaurant was ocutal the steak house. The detail that went into your stay is extensive from the face painters , to the cocktail swirls, garnish and presentation. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return

Hotel's Favourite
Was planning to go to Spain, but Covid restrictions would not allow tourism from the United States at this time. Found this all-inclusive on the beach in the Papagayo Gulf of Costa Rica (not too far from Coco Beach (where Tiger Woods lives)) and near Culebra Bay, where Secrets, Andaz, and the Four Seasons are located. I think because Costa Rica is recovering from Covid lockdowns and restrictions, the hotel was not even at half capacity, which was nice. Not all the a la carte restaurants are open every night, but very helpful and attentive staff, like Supervisor Leiby, were there to make sure we always got a table, to make sure the table was decorated before we arrived, and was accommodating enough to leave a bottle of red wine on the table and replace it as many times as needed throughout the meal. Even the buffet was very comprehensive, with grill stations, and awesome local cuisine. The room lacked little things like hair conditioner or hand lotion bottles, but other than that, everything was top notch. The small pillows were not ideal either, but we managed to sleep well regardless. Each night during dinner, a musician would play in the courtyard, every night following dinner we were treated to a Las Vegas - type show with dancing and music. And following each show, was a solo musician for about an hour. It was a nice was to wind down after a day of fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, paddle-boarding, boating to other beaches, smoking Cuban cigars on the beach, and just chilling with a mixed drink (like a Mono Susio - Dirty Monkey) under a tree on a lounge chair with periodic dips into the warm water of the Pacific (with almost no waves). The price was amazing as well. It was less than $150 for two people, per day, all inclusive, including alcoholic drinks (not just bear and pina coladas). You cannot beat this deal. Costa Rica does require a travel insurance, but we found a company called Trawick, and we were able get insured for $30 per person for the week. This complied with Costa Rica's requirements. The US required us to get a negative Covid antigen test 3 days before coming back, but since we booked this trip through Apple Vacations, the testing was free of charge.

Lovely people, wonderful food, enough choice of food for anyone. Could always find something to eat, wether it was a steak or a salad. Plenty of choice of drinks. Staff are friendly and helpful. We sat mainly in the Filadelfia bar and they would always come round to your table and ask if you wanted more drinks and usually remembered what you drank.

Facilities on lobby and pool side are good, rooms need a facelift, shower very high and dangerous But main was the lack of service in their restaurants, 1st they don't tell you that the take the 1st 100 then after they give some keepers until run out then No one else can go to eat on those restaurants, on the Japanese one Not even Water we were offered, never made it to the Italian due to the protocol, in the Meat one waited long time to be served and same only one beer and a glass of water cause they forgot the other beer. The worst one the Tucan supposedly a " Gourmet one in this one was celebrating our 18th anniversary and since all previous issues they were able to get me in on that one, 1st waited again just for water then to take our order, they had 6 tables total but since one apparently was given them $$$ cause they even brought their own lobsters so that the chef would cook it for them the servers did not pay attention to the other tables. When they brought my food after I told them 2 items have been brought to them and cleaned they even just put our plates on the table disregarding which one was for my wife and mine. We stood up and left that's how poor the service was and messed up our dinner anniversary. The only ones that treat people better were the bartenders that obviously with the Tip the treatment was even better. The hotel did have a Big Friday Party which was amazing, thank God we did an excursion where we spent most of the day out. The Bed feels like sleeping in cement, the pillows broke your neck. Oh and at 720am they had the Gardner's with a Big noisy trimmer in front of the ocean view rooms where I was cutting an EMPTY LOT they had with grass very small that needed no cutting. We even left a day early due to the poor service and room state.

My wife and I stayed at the Riu Guanacaste for a week, and on the whole, it was an enjoyable vacation. As some reviews have mentioned, the rooms are somewhat dated, but everything was clean and in good condition. The pool was quite nice, and all the staff was very friendly and kind. However, the resort was much more crowded than we had been told/expected for the “off” period. Breakfast and lunch is buffet style, but everything was so crowded that it made finding a table a stressful experience. I can’t even begin to imagine what the “busy” season would look like. For dinners, all the restaurants opened at 6pm and were “first come first serve”, so if you want to be seated right near opening, be prepared to wait in line 15-20 min early (and for the Italian, get in line about an hour early). We enjoyed all the food, except for lunch, which had an extremely limited selection. Additionally, the reviews about the steakhouse having raccoons are absolutely true. They will come up to your table and harass you, and the staff seems to find it funny. Some guests even fed the raccoons (which there are signs saying not to), which made more come around our area. The food was below average so we were fine to only go once, but if you don’t like having wild animals around at night, I’d avoid the steakhouse. The rooms also do not have room service, which was a bummer. But overall, it was very relaxing and we enjoyed our trip to Costa Rica. Pura Vida!

We just arrived from Riu Guanacaste. First impression - our room was big has rainforest view dated but very clean! They kept the hotel clean everywhere.Except no kettles in room but we get a jug of hot water from restaurant . After checked in reception Kender called us if we were happy or he will give us another room( as we requested a room not far from restaurants and pool). The food , restaurants , bars , were great we love Liberia most. Thanks to Richard ..staff . chef who looked after us in the restaurant. At the Pool the barmen especially Alberto and the Pina colada by Iznader was amazing! The Soorts bar us open 24 hours. What i love most in the pool is the cocktail of the day and the photographer Jorge took good pictures of me( there are a lot of thdm scattered in the hotel at the beach, lobby. The beach - It was wavy or low tide so for meus who cannot swim we just lay there on sunbeds watching birds and people selling( thats were I bought a hat and pottery . so glad i did because the price at the airport was expensive.I also had a massage for $45 with sngel for 1 hour from head face body to toe. So good! They will be at the hotel entrance. The entertainment in the hotel we only saw one as we retire early to bed) There is no bank to get money in the hotel ( they have cashier to get change ) Carlos patiently did that as its nice to tip them and nit wait till the last day, esoecially the chambermaid they different obe everyday. They refill our mini bar ever 2 days? We got cash from ATM during ourvtours we asked our guide to stop at machines. Best ti stay with dollars because everyone has their own conversion rate. We went to Nicaragua( Granada was beautiful , caterina. la playa la virgen and Masaya volcano). We bought tours from hotel. The sloth tour we enjoyed besides thd bucketing rain. Rum and ecological tour if you like to flavour your own rum. Sabandi Rum. Overall it was a very good holiday! Thanks to Riu Guanacaste Staff

Checked in on 8/27/22 and checked out within the hour. It's a beautiful hotel, grounds are well maintained. It was just too large for our taste. Didn't even have parking. We had to park down a street on the complex. Pool was a little too crowded. So it depends on individual tastes regarding the kind of stay. Preferred a smaller secluded atmosphere. Desk staff was decent

Hotel was old and run down. Most of the hotel restaurants they advertised are closed or when they open only serve a number of people then turn you away towards the buffet. People there are very nice and food at buffet is good. I was very disappointed

I was a bit apprehensive about this hotel after reading prior reviews. We had a wonderful experience all the way around. All the employees including front desk staff, servers, grounds keepers etc. were kind and welcoming to us. We were a party of 7 with 4 rooms, and we had excellent service through out the entire stay. We ate in all the restaurants and every meal was wonderful. The service was great and food variety was good. Everything was well kept and clean except for guests that treated the grounds as a garbage dump, which was unnecessary because garbage cans were plentifully placed. The location is convenient to the EcoPark which has a lot to do. The hotel also has many activities to participate in. We rented jet skis, took a boat trip to another beach, horseback riding, Zip lines and Atv riding. We also rented a van at the airport for transportation and had onsite hotel parking for free. We have been on many trips around the world and we would come back here again.
