All good, great value friendly staff nice atmosphere. Sadly fellow guests in the kitchen until 02:00 making a fair bit of noise made sleep less than great. I probably should have got up to ask them to keep the noise down. Four stars.
with difficulty in finding accomodation in york without going furter afield, finding this with such easy access to the river and city centre was a godsend. especially being able to leave the car and walk in. romms are basic, but functional clean and practical. wealth of facilities on hand and strike the right balance for what guests really need. great base for visiting sights and experiences. welcoming for all ages without discrimination. fundamently good ethos from founders still current today... 10/10
We've been here a number of times, it's a decent place to stay close to York, helpful staff. It's a bit pot luck with the rooms some are very large, this time or room was just big enough, everything is always clean and comfortable. We stayed this time, two friends with our 4 children aged 7 - 15 and had a bad experience with another guest. He was part of a large group of rowdy males, he appeared to have been very drunk and confused and aggressively banged and kicked our door at around midnight trying to get in thinking it was his room. Our children were very scared, we rang reception immediately and a member of staff was up very quickly and were very apologetic. In the morning in reception we saw the man involved and a conversation with him about his actions ended in him swearing aggressively at us again in front of our children, and other families, who were again really upset. We were all very surprised that there was such a large group of clearly drunk males as this is not our usual experience of YHA. This is the first time we have genuinely felt unsafe in a youth hostel and it may affect us staying here again. …
This is a great place to stay. Obviously, it's not The Ritz, but if you're after something affordable and welcoming, then this is it. Lovely, friendly and helpful staff. Lovely space and location. REALLY lovely food. Just lovely all round. We love spending time in the communal area - never felt on top of anyone. Love the games and pool table available - and even the xylophone hiding in the garden! Great place to stay. This was our second visit - and hoping to return another day.
Really happy to stay at the Youth Hostel in York again. Parking is really easy and a nice walk into town. Didn't have any food this time but have had a good experience with breakfast before. Lovely staff, super helpful, clean rooms and facilities :-)
This was our first stay in a YHA. it was excellent value for money. The hotel was clean & staff were professional & friendly. It was a great base to stay to explore York. The city is only a few mins drive away.
The room was inadequately set up as there was no information about what to do in the case of a fire (there was one). People were left outside with no information (even from the Fire Brigade who have most certainly been given Crisis Management Training). The staff at the hotel were young and seemed not to be trained in Crisis Management (an essential for the safety and comfort of other people). As there was no hot food available to purchase the next day (and Expensive £10 for a full breakfast). The next day I was offered some free toast if I bought a coffee. Unacceptable and indicative of how people treat others. Especially vulnerable groups (that include single people travelling alone).
York YHA gave us a great break exploring the city of York. You could tell it had been recently refurbished. Great facilities, lots of space, great showers and lovely breakfast. A lovely walk into the city where there is lots to do for families. Would definitely recommend and look forward to staying again.
We stayed here before and I wasn’t overly impressed. I’m glad we chose to stay again though. We chose an en-suite room this time and I would definitely recommend this option. Also last time, we were on an upper floor and the cloud Wi-Fi didn’t connect, this wasn’t an issue this time on a lower floor. The location is great, just a 15 minute walk from the very centre of York. Our room was very clean, warm (in the middle of a cold snap) and very cosy. It’s a basic hostel room but we were very happy with it. My only gripe is A) the socket next to my bed didn’t work and B) towels cost extra, it didn’t bother me at all to pay extra, but we weren’t told when booking or on check in, so after a shower I had to send my daughter down to get one from reception while I stood a bit damp and waiting in the bathroom! Extremely reasonably priced, cosy little room and great location though, would definitely stay again. Staff are lovely too.…
Staff were lovely and room was neat and tidy. Disappointed in the self serve laundry as there was only one residential 8kg washer and one residential 9kg dryer. This caused issues as there was no time limit on either with a load going for as long as 220 minutes ( 3.5hrs). This meant wait times were almost impossible, especially when you are only staying one night and have to stay up to 12am just to start a load of laundry. Either more machines should be installed or have ones with shorter run cycles. Only benefit is that they are free.
