YHA York is like a home away from home--you still get the facilities from home such as a self-catering kitchen where you can properly cook, free parking, and even a pool table. There's even a Ben & Jerry's ice cream vending machine! It's a comfortable stay throughout.

Great YH - film nights for the kids were a fantastic unexpected treat, especially the popcorn and drinks! So easy to use as a base, lovely walk into the city along the river. Breakfast and evening meals were great too.

YHA is a great hostel, nice beds, comfy rooms and with all the features you will need as a traveler (kitchen, laundry, towel rental, etc). The only reason for 4 stars rating is location, be aware that everything you do in York will require to walk 1.8 km to reach.

Thank you for the review tolarteh - I'm delighted that you found the facilities to your liking and enjoyed your stay with us. It is a pleasant walk into town along the River Ouse, but you're right about this distance. We do keep bus route maps and timetables at reception for those people who would rather save their energy for...

Had a private room with en-suite and very comfortable for one night stay. Kitchen has all required implements, seating limited as other reviewers have mentioned. Lounge area in reception is spacious and comfortable. Pre-booked breakfast and got there early to queue behind a huge group of school kids who practically cleaned the place out (well it is a youth hostel!),...

Bus can get you to the city, but the location itself is still far. Bathroom should get a shelf for shampoo and shield for keeping the floor dry. And, floor in the room is noisy when you walk on. Personnel here is kind and helpful, and my 3 nights stay is fine.

We appreciated our clean room for five, which was in great condition and well laid-out. It was great to be close to the car park and a kitchen. We ate our breakfast in the self-catering kitchen, which had all the equipment we could possibly need.

This was the perfect place for a mothers and teen-daughters trip away. We stayed in family rooms with en suite facilities, which were immaculate. The rooms are basic but have everything you need: comfortable beds and bedding, hand soap, bedside lights and lots of plug sockets. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful. There was a large group of young...

We had an en-suite family room with bunks and a double bed. This was clean and comfortable and suited our purpose ideally. We decided to come back to the hostel for our evening meal and...

This hostel is comfortable, easy to locate, clean, and staffed by caring helpful people who make a sincere effort to cater to everyone. As mentioned in a previous review, a couple of problems in the self catering kitchen need attention. The stove tops are old and out of date and two of the three were not working during my stay.
