I don’t know where to begin with this hotel. The two positives are that the room was clean and the pool was open. The negatives are: unfriendly staff, loud hotel patrons, open drinking in the hotel lobby, disappointing breakfast, a broken hot tub and no towels available by the pool. I do not recommend staying at this hotel. It’s January 2023 and they still think Covid is happening. So disappointed with our stay.
The hotel is located in a good location to access much of Waterloo. The rooms are very spacious and the property is quite large, being a conference center. There are restaurants nearby and plenty of parking. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. I have stayed here twice: in 2019 and 2022 and enjoyed both stays.
I stayed there one night for an after work Christmas party hotel. The room I got was on the 2nd floor, only 3 floors, and faced the back of the Ford dealership. I booked using the Inn of Waterloo's website, and selected the CAA rate. It was a nice room, carpets were quite nice and the bathroom, according to my co-worker (booked on Hotwire), was really impressive compared to his. Mine had tiled shower with a sliding glass door, tiled floors, a small sink in the immediate corner of the room. Thought this was an odd placement. And toilet in the middle of the wall between the sink and shower. The lighting could've been a bit better, standing in front of the mirror I was immediately reminded of Queen II album cover, as the light shines down directly from above. The shower was a long corded hand held unit, but, it was actually quite nice and, somewhat appreciated too! Could have used a bathroom fan, but honestly, that is I think a minor gripe I have with almost every hotel bathroom I'm in. The beds were quite nice, i do believe two Queen beds. Okay sized tv, I think my house has the same size at about 26". Appealing selection of tv stations, I don't have cable at home anymore so that was a neat treat and even caught a bit of an old 80's movie to boot! This room does have a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Nicely located in a "3rd closet door" to the right of the closet. And upon opening the door, the light turns on inside! Really impressive feature!! The closet had the same for the right side door, but not left. I found the magnet door holds were a bit tough, even for myself a strong muscled man. So they may even be harder if you're a bit older and not as strong. Room had a connecting door but my co-worker was on the opposite side of the hotel. The hotel also offers complimentary breakfast, because of the pandemic, its set up as a "breakfast bar" or "BYOB - build your own breakfast." I grabbed a bacon egg mc-muffin, and an apple juice. But there were also yogurts, I think some fruits, a loong selection of hot water for teas, coffees (not a coffee drinker), and I think some cereals, muffins, as well. It was an impressive spread but, wasn't what I had in mind upon walking in initially, and there is no sitting/eating there.. Forcing you to go back to the hotel room to nuke the mc-muffin, pro tip: use popcorn, but only for like half the amount of time, 1.5 mins should probably be plenty, then maybe 10 second intervals. I did it for a full 2.75 mins and it came out steaming hot. Overall, it was a nice stay and convenient location for where the work Christmas party was, and even to get back to work to pickup gear for the next week. Would probably stay again for sure!! …
We chose The Inn of Waterloo to host our daughters 10th birthday. We were fortunate enough to reserve the Garden Murphy Suite - and we were thrilled from the moment we stepped into the hotel. We did have to wait a little bit for the room to be ready, but the front desk was kind enough to direct us to a comfy sitting area in the lobby ,complete with a well stocked coffee station while we waited. Shortly after, our room was ready and we were off. We had a total of 7 children and 2 adults for the party , and all 9 of us had our jaws drop when we entered the room. The kids had the best birthday party - complete with a visit to their beautiful pool and hot tub area, everyone was happy. I’d like to make a special shout out to the head of housekeeping, who stopped by our room to congratulate the birthday girl on turning 10. The girls were having a spa party - and without missing a beat , this kind lady returned with a handful of beautiful robes for the girls, 7 of them in total, and wished them a fun party. What a wonderful, kind touch, and I want her to know she was the highlight of our stay, from a service perspective. The breakfast was not the best to be honest - frozen breakfast sandwiches and granola bars, muffins, fruit cups , and a giant vat of delicious coffee. A nice hot breakfast would have been a good touch, but we didn’t leave the room hungry. All in all, a fantastic visit, and wr would definitely return. We live 2 blocks away from the hotel ,but it felt like we were on holidays in another city. Thank you for the wonderful stay and hospitality!…
Not a good value for money. The build has a nice older appeal with such things archway balconies and treed court yards. Without updating that appeal was short lived. Things were outdated such as the TV, it was very old with a horrible picture with useless cable/channels available (not even a weather channel), phone, all lighting in the room which made it dark even with all the lights on, bathroom sink fixtures had calcium buildup and the heating/ac unit which was loud. The plant in the building were not taken care of with all plants in the pool area dead or dying (simple ugly and depressing). Also I called the front desk several times and they never answered. The cost for the stay was same as newer update hotels and the 4% municipal tax is simply theft. Had the cost been 40% less ($150.00) then it would had been good value for the money.…
Stayed at Waterloo Inn for one night. Check in and check out went smoothly. Friendly service at front desk and from cleaning staff. Our room was clean. Bathroom is new with nice shower, good water pressure. Nice big closet, small balcony overlooking courtyard. Bed very comfortable and good pillows. Very quiet. The room had a fridge, microwave and Kiereg coffee maker. Breakfast is grab and go…..croissants, muffins, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, breakfast sandwiches, water, juice, coffee & tea. A good selection of items. (Tip: bring a paper plate to heat up the breakfast sandwich in your room. ) Would not hesitate to stay again!
This hotel needs a lot of work. It was a lovely hotel back in the day but it has certainly fallen on bad times. The air / heat system in our room did not work properly. Could not change the temperature and throughout the night blew cool air. When we did shut it off, it actually started up again. The door to the balcony did not lock and the sheets on the bed were stained and felt not clean. Throughout the hotel, the rugs in halls etc. were quite dirty and there was a broken window on one door that should have been fixed immediately. There were four ice machines in the hotel of which three were out of order. The bar and dining area are not open. They blame it on Covid but it is clear that they do not have the staff or business to justify opening these venues. The breakfast supplied was minimal at best. On top of it all, we were group of 35 that were holding a reunion and there was some confusion over whether we were allowed alcohol in the hospitality suite. The organizers (all 4) definitely were assured by the a manager that we could bring our own drinks but when dinner was served the night manager (the same one they discussed this with at time of booking) denied she said that and threatened us with a huge fine if we did not remove the alcohol from the room. There was really no effort to try to accommodate us in any way. The one redeeming factor was that the young man who maintained the buffet meal was very efficient and reasonably friendly despite the tension created by the night manager. We certainly will never return to this hotel again and recommend that anyone reading this review stay at any of the other hotels offered in the Kitchener / Waterloo area. …
Average place, they ask for a $250 deposit on top of paying, I got it back after 3-4 days. The building is old, the room felt dim, pool was ok, hot tub wasn't hot. Breakfast was lackluster. Bar wasn't open so we went down the street instead. Property has potential, looks like it was primo in the 70's and 80's but needs a serious shot in the arm.
We stayed at this hotel for the pool and hot tub. When we arrived, we found the hot tub was out of service - I'm assuming supply chain issues are making it hard to get parts for repair. The pool, however, was open and available. It was clean, super warm and just delightful. Still worked on a booking system to keep social distancing, which is a good thing. Found out that there was a sauna as well - so that was a bonus. Rooms were clean-ish, could have used a hoovering and more towels/soap was needed if they're not going to clean and restock rooms daily. They did have a system to request clean towels and soap, but we weren't told about it till we went to the front desk looking for supplies. Staff were okay, but not particularly friendly or helpful. Wouldn't have mentioned this but we have found that other places we've stayed during Covid were much friendlier, so the lack of warmth was noticeable here. Perhaps it's just a bigger hotel and less personal. There was a sign in the elevators about wrist-band policies and that non-guests weren't allowed in rooms, which was a bit weird, but perhaps connected to events at the university? I'd go back just for the pool, but the hotel itself was just okay.…
My personal belongings were stolen ($600 in value) from Inn of Waterloo, and management is not taking any responsibilities on 1. Staff entering the unit when do not disturb sign is on. 2. Move personal belongings from one room to another room without consent. 3. Remove personal property from unit and throw away without consent. 4. Not providing a safe in the unit and claims it is my responsibilities and risks to manage my personal belongings in their property. Not sure what were my resources to protect my properties when staff can enter the unit even if do not disturb sign was hung. They didn’t agree to investigate, or replace my properties that went missing from the room. The hotel had limited surveillance camera in the property to review the incidents. My last 2 days in Waterloo after living in 11 years in the area ended with frustration and disappointment from lack of management and securities from Inn of Waterloo…
