Travellers' Choice
Immerse yourself in the historic charm of The Walper Hotel, an iconic 1893 landmark set along the quaint streets of one of Kitchener, Ontario's oldest neighbourhoods. You'll be captivated by this building's amazing past, and charmed by its contemporary flare. From Eleanor Roosevelt's preferred breakfast location on the interior terrace to Lennox Lewis' boxing match in the Crystal Ballroom, to the tales of Al Capone's liquor smuggling operation in the cavernous basement restaurant, every nook and cranny in this Waterloo hotel has a story to tell.

I feel like this may be a “don’t let the door hit you on the way out” from Hyatt. Globalist dropping down to nothing in a few months. According to Hyatt, Globalists in theory are supposed to receive an upgraded room up to suite when available. Despite a suite being available, confirmed by Hyatt Concierge and on their website, instead, I get a room next to the elevator with a view of a brick wall. No mention of breakfast or any amenities - I pretty much had to guide her as to how World of Hyatt worked. Nice looking hotel otherwise. Seems like a building that’s been here forever. If you don’t stay with Hyatt and don’t have status and don’t have any expectations for what a Hyatt property is supposed to deliver, this might be the right hotel for you.

The Walper is tastefully renovated, while respecting the historical character of the building itself. Very clean and homey. I did read that this hotel was supposedly “haunted” due to a part of its tragic history, but was not spooked by it at all. The stay was comfortable and uneventful. The concierge staff was helpful and friendly, and the highlight was absolutely the brunch - one of the best I’ve had in a hotel. Would come back in a heartbeat.

$75 pet fee? That's indefensible. Even at $20/hour, that would amount to almost four extra hours of cleaning? Bull. And while it makes sense that a parking lot was not developed when the hotel was built, charging $20 a day if you get lucky enough to score one of the eight "Valet" spots is another colossal cash grab.

We spent the weekend in order to attend a friend’s wedding. Hotel was clean, staff was amazing, and I strongly recommend the brunch at the TWH Social if you happen to be at the hotel on a weekend. So delicious!

Room was clean, one towel in the room, TV did not work and no hair conditioner (found out at an inopportune time. Overcharged on my bill and when we initially booked it stated there was a restaurant on premises (opens at 5 and we have to leave by 4:30). Window blinds are about a half in short of the window frame so leave the lights off in the bathroom at night. When you expect the bar of Hyatt, don't at this location.
