Neil and Michael are amazing hosts and owners of this beautifully restored building. They share their passion for doing things in life in the right way. Each room has been decorated to a specific decade with the quintessential touch of knowing how to treat guests in a welcoming way. Breakfast is exquisite. Thank you !!

The MacKinnon-Cann Inn is a historical and marvellous hideaway on Willow Street in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. The two hosts, Neil and Michael are so friendly and the rooms are just fabulous. Each of the rooms (there are 7 rooms) are set in different periods - I stayed in the 1960s room which was great. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are lovely - you even get treated to heated flooring in the bathroom! :-) There is also internet access in the rooms. Breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, freshly baked bread and you could also have a hot meal of eggs and bacon (they will cook any type of egg and filling), served with juice, tea or coffee. Plus if you are looking for fine dining then you must have dinner there - the food was sooo tasty, especially the chocolate dessert! You will not be disappointed at the MacKinnon-Cann Inn. mackinnoncanninn.com

We discovered the MacKinnon Cann Inn on the Select Inn Registry. We were not disappointed... Neil and Michael have done a suberb job- the house has been perfectly restored in every detail. We stayed in the 1920's room, each room has been authentically decorated for each decade of the 1900's. Michael and Neil have found treasures from each decade for each room. We were at the inn during a slower season, and Yarmouth is not really a happening spot, but we enjoyed walking about town before leaving for our trip up the coast to Halifax. The tourist info centre has a wonderful host, in z kilt with bagpipes no less, to greet each incoming ferry. A charming gentleman, full of helpful tips.
More on the inn, breakfast was delicious, the rooms and inn were very clean and comfortable, but it was the graciousness and sincerity of the hosts that made our stay. We particularily enjoyed chatting with Michael as he threw firewood off his truck and into the basement stoage area. We would stay again in a heart beat.
We asked Neil if they had heard about Trip Adviosr and they had not. We promised we would post a review, and although a year later, I have kept that promise.

It was our good fortune to stay at this Inn in Yarmouth Nova Scotia. Innkeeper Neil Hisgen and partner Michael Taveras were as cordial and welcoming as family. Our accomodations were wonderful - this is a brand new elegant old Inn that is 100% re-habbed right down to the radiant heat in the bathroom! Our room was elegant Victorian yet completely brand new - all the comforts. No broken down beds or creaky floors or moldy old bathrooms! Modern waterfall shower - WiFi - they have it all. Neil & Michael served a marvelous breakfast in the cozy and comfortable dining room and then helped us plan our travels for the day INCLUDING making our reservations at another wonderful Inn for the following evening. We were on an 'off dinner' night but Neil directed us to the nearby Rudder Seafood Restaurant & Brew Pub - a great fun place, terrific food and fair prices - right on the water.

This restaurant is one of the best surprises we have encounter. The house it self is an beautiful 19th century mansion which has been restored and designed in a very elegant way. The lamb on the menu is one of the best dishes we have had for a long time. The service is so friendly and personal, you feel like among friends.

My husband and I were on our honeymoon and took the CAT from Bar Harbor over the Yarmouth. We decided to spend a night in Yarmouth before heading up to Halifax for a few nights.

I found the MacKinnon-Cann online and after seeing the pictures HAD to stay there. When I called, the owner (Neil) was super friendly and upgraded our room because it was our honeymoon. He gave us direction to the inn from the ferry and told us to stop by when we arrived and he would give us some ideas of things to do around town.

When we arrived, I was overwhelmed by how beautiful the place was. The neighborhood was a little iffy, to be honest, but it looked up and coming. We stayed in the 1910 room and it was beautiful. Everything was à point and the antiques were fabulous. I later used the whirlpool tub, which was also fabulous.

Neil gave us directions to some places to see and we were off. Mind you, Yarmouth isn't exactly the most exciting town in the world and we were a little disappointed. It was a long afternoon, to say the least.

In the morning, we had a tasty and beautiful breakfast in the dining room. Lovely place settings, music, atmosphere....these guys go ALL OUT!

When we left, we spent about half an hour just chatting with the owners (Neil & Michael) about teaching (Michael and I were both teachers), antiques, Boston....you name it. They were so friendly and welcoming! If you check out their web page, you can see the unbelievable amount of restoration this did on the place.

All in all, it was wonderful. I just wish it wasn't in Yarmouth!

This place is a small, elegant inn in a fully restored building. The location is perfect for those arriving on the ferry from Portland.

On previous visits to Nova Scotia, we'd viewed Yarmouth as a place to pass through on the way to more interesting things. But with the current ferry service arriving in late evening, we decided to stay in Yarmouth. We made a scheduling error regarding our other plans in Nova Scotia, and as a result we needed to book two nights in the MacKinnon-Cann Inn. The Inn turned out to be a wonderful find, delightful in every way, and we'll be back.

In addition to being located perfectly for ferry travelers-- just a few blocks from the terminal -- the innkeeper was on the porch to welcome the late arriving guests. Very nice. There's plenty of parking behind the building.

The rooms are also very nice. All rooms are on the second floor. For our first night, the inn was full but the inn was quiet. There was no sense of there being many guests. For the second night we moved to a larger room. Both rooms we stayed in were very appointed and very clean.

Rates include breakfast. The breakfast was professionally prepared and presented, in a very clean and bright dining area. There was no sense of the inn being crowded at breakfast or at any other time.

The innkeepers are personable and professional, and eager to help with recommendations and directions. The innkeeper presence during breakfast and during the guests' coming and going adds immensely to the inn experience. .

Summary: Because our stay at the inn was so nice, we'll visit Yarmouth again and we'll certainly stay here. This place is good enough to make Yarmouth a destination for us. We had viewed Yarmouth as just a place to drive away from before this visit, but our stay at this inn showed us that Yarmouth has lots to offer. The hosts suggested restaurants, a coffee shop, and other activity that made our stay quite nice. Thank you.

Neil and Michael's welcome and warmth alone make this an Inn worth staying. Add the attention to detail in their restored Victorian, breakfasts, location convenient to walk to town and near to the ferry and advice for anything you need and you have a great place to stay in Yarmouth.
