Deli tartes were stale and inedible. Sadly we found out when quite some distance away. The man serving was miserable and uncommunicative. A woman behind the counter just grimaced the entire time. I suspect that these people should not be running a deli / cafe and should give up. I have given 2 stars rather than just one because the chocolate tarte was nice and they had an impressive selection of dried pasta. We felt cheated by these people who must have known they were selling old and stale goods.

The café itself isn't very welcoming and a bit dingy, needs a revamp. We ordered soup, baps for the teenagers, the ham bap had some clingfilm in it! When my husband pointed it out the owner said that was what the ham was wrapped in and no apology! Also nothing taken off the bill! Needless to say we will not be returning !

The café is very small, very simple yet oozes character. The couple who own it are hard working and charming. The delights they serve are of the highest quality. The cakes and scones really very good. I don’t particularly like coffee in cafetières but this was good. We went twice in two days and will make sure that we visit again when in the vicinity. Once you’ve had your tea/coffee and scone/cake, pop next door to the deli. What a splendid display of quality foods and wines. The cheese counter is superb. I wish we lived nearer…….

We popped in here for a cup of tea and a bowl of soup, as we thought it would be good to try and support a small local business in these difficult times... the woman (owner we presume) could not have been more unwelcoming! No interaction at all, and made to feel you were imposing on her, asking for a tea! There were no covid precautions (nowhere to check-in or leave details), no sanitiser etc. But the worse bit was while she was in the small kitchen just off the dining area, preparing another visitor's tea... she had the most terrible loud hacking coughing fit that went on for ages!! She didn't make any effort to remove herself from the kitchen, or apologise, and in fact, was not even wearing a mask or visor while she was serving! We left as quick as we could, and got our own sanitiser out, as soon as we could ;) Having said that, the soup was OK, and it was a nice cup of tea, but not worth the visit.…

Popped in for a coffee and a break from the sun. Good coffee - also, lovely elderflower presse, my wife really enjoyed a large slice of lemon cake, and the deli side of things was great; nice selection, not too pricy for an independent. Will be going back to try more of the delicious-looking savouries.

The selection of cheese and salami is amazing. The owners are always friendly and welcoming. Despite what another review says you can’t smell the chicken factory and the shop isn’t clustered. The food in the shop is slightly expensive but the quality is amazing, the salami is like no other. Overall a lovely little English shop and cafe.

My mum and I visited Eye on Friday 2nd August as we were going to Linden House for an invitation to view. When we had finished we had a look round Eye and stumbled across the deli and looked at the menu and decided to come back for a drink later. We went back but on both occasions of entering the tea shop no one welcomed us and it wasn't particularly friendly??! I noticed that there has been similar reviews way back in 2012 pity they don't up their game but they obviously don't read trip advisor review or care? It could be a gem but obviously they don't wish for it to be. We would have gone back at another time but won't be returning!!

We happened across this Tea Room by chance during a walk round Eye one lunchtime. It looked inviting and there were suitable items on the menu including vegetarian. It was old fashioned and fairly small. It wasn't the warmest welcome, but the owners/wait staff were polite enough and matter of fact. The food seemed to come mainly from their adjoining/next door delicatessen, including the various tarts and quiches on offer, married with a simple salad. There was a choice of teas to drink, all inexpensive, plus juice, coffee etc. It was nice that the tea came with an extra pot of hot water. The place was reasonable clean and had a 5 hygiene rating, though there were a few annoying flies about (they were elsewhere in Eye too) so an insect repeller might be a good idea to install. We enjoyed the food anyway. They kindly let us carry the bill over top the deli where there was a good selection of cheeses, fine wines, fresh pasta and olives to choose from - not the cheapest but these places never are. The cheese was nice later that evening. I'm a little surprised at some of the reviews that mention curt staff, but I can see where these might come from - nonetheless I wouldn't hesitate to go again or recommended it. There is another cafe near the war memorial with a wider choice if you prefer that. …

After the circular 2 hour walk around Eye which is lovely, we arrived at this quaint little tea shop owned and served by a quiet unassuming couple. Cakes were delicious. Slight problem with tea - 4 tea bags in one pot and none in the other but quickly rectified. Good value for money. Will definitetly return.

We have been past Beards several times, but never ventured in. We decided to give it a go the other Saturday. We were the only customers all through the lunchtime, which was a bit sad.The owner welcomed us and offered the homemade soup and homemade bread which was spicy pumpkin, well it was just after Halloween! My wife went for this and found it very nice, but not that spicy and needed a tad more seasoning. I went for the goats cheese and chutney sandwich, in the homemade bread, which was just great. We had some local beers from Earl Soham, now brewed in Debenham and really tasty. The decor is oak beams and display cabinets with some very old food and household product memorabilia, names I haven't seen for years but brought back some memories. There was plenty of choice on the menu, hot and cold. They make nearly everything on site, including various savoury tarts and cakes. The prices were very reasonable. As being the only people in the cafe, the ambience lacked some background music, as you only had your own conversation to listen too. We will certainly go back again. We did have a quick look in the deli, which had a large range of goods, some of which are on offer in the cafe. Beards also have a B & B, but not sure what it is like.…
