As a teen my parents brought me along to stay with them in pretty Val-David for a winter stay at l'Hôtel La Sapinière, a sprawling old lodge down the road from Le Baril which served gourmet food. I became aware that it shut down 3 years ago, and while it might be blamed on costs for keeping the old girl... More

We were returning to this bar, as we had had the taster selection of beers and wanted to do another. This time we made the selection with emphasis on red and dark beers....it was excellent. Then we chose our fav. and had a pint of that. It was at this point that the slight drizzle became a torrential rain storm.... More

yes technically there is free parking on the site. basically is first to arrive first to serve. considering the clients of the pub as well you will have to park on the road. staff is nice. room was ok. air conditioning present but not 100% functional. old shower in the bathroom. nice breakfast and delicious croissants available. i found it... Wonderful little place, within walking distance of the village. I felt so welcome by the staff and found the room very charming. Also got a chance to see other rooms who were all more charming than the other. The breakfast was simply delicious! No air conditioning but good fan so no problem. The only thing I can say was that... More

My sweetie and I were in Val David for a few days while she attended a workshop and I was doing some writing and reading. We wound up eating most of our lunches and dinners at Le Baril Roulant, because we were lucky enough to eat there the first night because someone told us what an excellent vegetarian meal their... They were so friendly and helpful for finding little things to do around town! The food was great, amazing beer, nice clean room and the stream just outside was awesome to sit by! I think it was melting season so the water was high and almost like rapids. I would definitely go back!!

My wife and I spent 2 nights here in late, snowy March. The auberge (inn) is conveniently located near the centre of the village, the rail trail and a little park. I wasn't expecting too much for an inn, but the place was clean, the staff helpful and the breakfast delicious! The rooms are very basic, the shower is kind... More

Small convenient hotel in a picturesque river setting right next to the rail trail. Rooms are fresh, clean and tidy. Plus a nice breakfast, all at a reasonable price. Be warned though, while still highly regarded the locally renowned restaurant here recently went totally Italian - none of that great French cuisine anymore. I didn't drive all the way from... More

When we travel I most often use tripadvisor to evaluate dining and lodging and I hope this helps others do the same. First the lodging. It was clean, comfortable, quiet and in a quaint setting with a perfect location, a short walk to town. Couldn't beat the outside deck for a beer or glass of wine, looking at the river... More

Stayed here in 2011 when we first cycled the P’tit Train du Nord and were looking forward to our return visit. Great location. Smallish rooms but we went primarily for the food again. Rooms are not air conditioned and with one small window in the room I would imagine they could be quite uncomfortable in mid-summer. Unfortunately (for us) their... More
