We stayed for 2 nights following 7 day Kayaking Broken Island National Park. The staff were kind, amenities were clean and comfortable, enjoyed hot tub, meeting fellow travelers, seeing wildlife and playing guitar at campfire. The food was very fresh, and they provided bag lunches for day kayaking trips and hiking. A gem we will be returning!

Absolutely outstanding! The Seachart Lodge is located in a perfect location to kayak the Broken Islands! A real gem of a spot! We experienced great "home cooking" by Sean- even burgers for lunch one day! Cody kindly exchanged our single kayaks for a double which gave us a chance to explore more of the islands. Our hosts Nancy and Gord were simply the best! We played beanbags, shared stories by the campfire, and even enjoyed a hot tub right on the ocean's edge! Wow! We will definitely be back next year! THE PLACE

I can't believe there is only one review for this place. Let me add to, what that review says. The lodge is in an old but fully updated building 33 nautical miles from Port Alberni, on the edge of the Broken Islands group, the world's best ocean kayak/canoe destination. It's a park, with lots of campgrounds. The Lodge is the only place to stay near the islands. Rooms are small, but large enough for two. Queen beds, good mattresses, dead quiet, a great night's sleep. Good wi-fi, TV in lounge. Lavatory in rooms, shared toilet/showers. Good, simple food. Ten white, ten red wine list @ 15. BYOB encouraged. Various beers @ $5/6. Campfire at night, with host playing guitar and singing. Nice tenor voice. Guests are encouraged to play percussion and join in. One hint: bring beach shoes. The water is swimmable, but it's a shingle beach.

THE DEAL

In the summer, the outfit that owns the lodge runs a special. For $300 you get two round trip fares on the boat that serves the water-only communities in the area (which they also own, the boat, that is), lunch and dinner on Sunday, breakfast on Monday, and your room. A bargain.

On Friday morning, bright and early, 7AM, we arrived in Port Alberni to board the M.V.Frances Barkley, The passenger/ freight ferry to Uclulet. Everyone was cheerful and very helpful. They picked up our loaded double Delta and gently stowed it in the bow of the boat. During the trip up the coast we had a simple onboard breakfast and happily sat and watched the beautiful scenery go by. We were also thrilled by the sight of a great humpback whale which the captain very graciously stopped the boat for to allow us to take all the pictures we wanted. We reached Seachart in 3 hours and were met by friendly outgoing staff. The lodge is very clean and comfortable, although if one is looking for luxury this is not the place for you. But if you want warm, comfortable rooms with great buffet style meals and warm, welcoming hosts, this is the spot to make camp when paddling through the gorgeous Broken Islands. We did have one day of pouring rain and it was truly wonderful to arrive back at the lodge for a hotmeal and a great bottle of wine. They have a limited, although good wine list and you are also free to bring your own. Even having to share the bathrooms was not a problem. The womens had 2 shower stalls, which were clean and towels were provided. The only thing I might recomend is, if you have a problem with stairs, request the main floor as the bathrooms are on the main floor. There are maps and lots of info on the islands. You can also arrange drop-off and pick-up with the people at the Lodge. No Hiking, unless you don't mind sharing the space with bears and cougers. Saw quite a few.On the last day of our stay we decided to hop the Ferry and take the rest of the ride to Uclulet. Spent an hour in Uclulet and then headed back to the lodge and then on to Port Alberni and again the captain stopped for whales and took a scenic route through the islands. Very, very enjoyable. All in all I would highly recommend a stay at Seachart. For the $ The Seachart Lodge was well worth it!
