I really cannot say enough positive things about this place. It is extremely well kept, clean and beautifully decorated with lots and lots of original artwork. We stayed here with 2 adults and a teenager and had lots of room to spread out. The suite was arranged with a privacy wall separating the double bed from the rest of the suite. All very tastefully done. There was a kitchen sink, stove, fridge, table and chairs, rocking chair, TV and a very comfortable daybed in the other part of the suite. Patio doors opened onto a well-landscaped deck (shared) and yard. The kitchen was totally needed in this town where a really bad cheeseburger can set you back $7.00 (just the burger mind you!) A great surprise was a very large walk-in closet, perfect for storing away our suitcases! The breakfast was excellent, with a hot dish as well as breads and fruit. Our host, Mike, was very accommodating and even prepared a separate dish for one of our party, remembering a food allergy casually mentioned the previous day. This is definitely one of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed at! Excellent value for the $. The only drawback might be the climb up the hill to get to the house. After trekking up and down a few times, we (I) decided to rent a car for the next few days (OK, call me a wimp!) Other than the hill, the town is quite spread out along the highway and a trip up the island to Masset and Toe Hill is definitely worth the car rental. If you have the chance to visit Queen Charlotte City, this is definitely a great place to stay!

We loved our 5 night stay at Dorothy and Mike's. The suite was spacious, clean and quiet with a big ocean view. Owners and staff were very welcoming and made sure our visit was wonderful. We can strongly recommend the accommodation and would definitely use it again.

It is always obvious when a place has been lovingly maintained; there is a warmth to the surroundings, a “Welcomeness” that can’t be feigned. Dorothy & Mike’s is that kind of place. The hospitality is authentic. The gardens have seen many hours of care, the rooms are designed for the guest’s convenience and, of great importance, the beds are comfortable. The hosts are also accommodating - when the steps to the Loft room proved a bit challenging we were given an easy-access suite that well met our needs. We were impressed by several others aspects of our stay here - first, that the owners are dedicated to the cause of animal rescue and second, an interesting side fact is that Dorothy was one of the original “Gumboot Girls”; she knows the area well. So in addition to providing a home away from home, Dorothy & Mike’s is a great source for insight into the community and the people who live there. Other reviews have detailed the rooms - please look at the following photographs to get a better sense of the lovely gardens and view.

the ambience of this guest house is lovely. the food was very good. there was a lack of personal warmth in the demeanour of the hosts and it left my companion and I with a most uncomfortable feeling, having stayed in many bed and breakfasts in Europe and Britain, we came away with a feeling of not returning to same. I understand that they were at a the end of a very busy tourist season and possibly were tired. I would suggest they either hire some more help or shut down a few weeks early.

Breakfast is half of "Bed and Breakfast", but you certainly aren't getting your money's worth when it comes to the food if you stay at Dorthy and Mike's. Mike prepared the breakfast, a very small square of quiche, a single undersized muffin, and a fruit salad. My wife noticed other guests looking around at each other in wonderment at the small portions.

The room was nice. The room, and the common areas of the B&B were attractively decorated. The bedroom and bathroom were neat and clean.

We didn't meet Dorothy. As another reviewer stated, Mike is a stand-offish, cold fish kind of fellow. If you're looking for a warm connection with your host, look elsewhere.

The location is good and some of the rooms are quite pleasant. Thus, I returned four times. On the first stay Mike was very helpful. On each of the successive stays he has not been available and the service has declined. There were errors in their reservation system even though they were "confirmed" in advance. In one case I had to find another place to stay with no notice. In the other cases I was moved from room to room. Given that my reservations were made months in advance, it is not clear why I needed to change rooms every night. Perhaps this was done to increase the occupancy rate for the less desirable rooms that do not have a private bath.

If having a friendly and welcoming host is important to you, or if you want a host that will provide you with recommendations on what to do in the area, take a pass on this establishment. The rooms were clean and cozy. The room downstairs is dark and does not have a view. The Sunflower room has a deck with a nice view of the ocean.

Stayed in the Kumdis room. Very nice room. Huge deck with great view. Walking distance to shops/restaurants and waterfront. Flat screen tv, cable & wifi. Small fridge and microwave for guest use, coffee and tea but no breakfast. Reasonably priced accommodations. Would stay again. However, warning to anyone allergic to cats: they also operate a small cat shelter and in the common area there was the odor of litter box and some cat fur on outdoor chair cushions. The cats are kept in separate cat rooms, other than maybe two resident cats, and none of the cats go in the guest rooms.

Really terrific place to stay on wonderful Haida Gwaii. Really helpful hosts , lovely room with view of the pacific and very nice en suite bathroom. Loved the kittens next door in the cat sanctuary wanted to take them all home. Great facilities but this is not a B&B go to queen B'sfor breakfast - lovely!!
We were particularly fortunate to arrive on the IslNd the week end of the pole raising and pot laitch.
We had the most amazing experience and in the words of the Governor we'll be back!

After staying at Dorothy and Mike's on two separate occasions on our honeymoon around Haida Gwaii in September 2011. We can't say enough about them. We stayed in "Suite 2" Which had a private bath, full kitchenette, views of the ocean and a queen bed as well as a twin if needed. The place was spacious, clean, comfortable, inviting and had everything you might need to spend a night or a month. There were pictures on the wall and the suite was bright and cozy. There is coffee and tea provided. We met Mike and he went above and beyond with his hospitality by charging our dead car battery! Mike is lovely, very calm cool and collected and runs the guesthouse with his family with obvious care.
There are many options to choose from in terms of suites (sizes and prices) that run from around $80 to $130, but in order to get that choice in the summer months, book ahead! They are well known up there for good reason and fill up quickly. But even when full, the guesthouse is peaceful and each suite seems quite private. I would recommend Dorothy and Mike's to any one, at any time.
