From the moment we entered the hotel till the time we left we were so impressed with the the wonderful friendliness of the staff. The hotel itself was spotless and full of character the rooms are very warm and cosy and the views are stunning . Now we have to talk about the food 🤤 and also thank the chef and kitchen staff as it was absolutely beautiful from the sandwiches we had at lunch to the amazing al a carte meal we had for our evening meal and a thank you for my birthday plate it was a lovely touch oh not forgetting the cooked breakfast that was perfect . So a huge thank you to you all for making my birthday special and we can’t wait to return to spend time explore the area and enjoying more of your hospitality .…
I visited the hotel this morning for a business meeting, only to find out it had been cancelled and the organiser had only informed us the cancellation via a last minute message. As a result, a business partner and I only found out upon arrival at the hotel. The receptionist could not have been more helpful upon finding out what had happened and offered us a room to meet in despite the meeting was cancelled. The warm welcome of the hotel was very much noted and I would like to take this opportunity to commend the receptionist for going above and beyond what could be expected of her, needless to say I will be visiting again when I am next in the vicinity of Ashbourne as well as recommend this beautiful venue to friends and family.
Beautiful hotel with breathtaking views. We stayed here with our dog on a weekend away, The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The food was excellent and the service too. Nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend
A delightful lunch served by some delightful people. The food is extremely good and well presented. We had a fantastic home-made wild mushroom soup and home-made hummus to start, followed by tender roast beef, huge yorkshires and a tasty selection of veg. Unfortunately, however, the experience was let down by some very basic issues. When we arrived, we were directed to Sunday lunch in the bar. We had been told this when we booked the day before and it was understandable, as there were only a few diners and it would not have been cost effective to open the full restaurant for us. However, given that they knew there would be diners in the bar, it would have been nice to have the fire lit to combat the draughts, or been directed to sit in a warmer spot rather than being told to sit 'where you like' with the wave of a hand. The window next to where we sat had a gaping hole letting cold air in - a lot as the wind got up. The door into the bar was constantly left open and we had to keep shutting it ourselves to keep warm. Drinks were ordered at the bar, not served at the table which I suppose is ok, but some diners were not told this. We asked for a wine list and were told which 3 wines were on the bar for wine by the glass. We did eventually get a full list. The merlot was just right. Service was very slow, it took two hours overall including a 25 minute wait for dessert which was served after we had drunk our tea/coffee, which was served in cups without saucers. The waitress couldn't find any! There were only two young ladies serving, both were polite and trying to be efficient. One was clearly new, doing her best, and the other very busy trying to do her job as well as help her colleague. The person who appeared to be the manager disappeared shortly after our arrival even though it was clear the girls were struggling to keep things moving smoothly. It's such a shame, because all the ingredients are there but they did not come together to make our otherwise delicious meal as enjoyable as it should have been.…
Excellent location for hiking in the Dovedale area and the Southern Peak District. Charming hotel with comfortable rooms and good restaurant. All at reasonable prices especially half board. The breakfast sets you up for the day
First of all good points were the Location - almost a stones throw from Thorpe Cloud and the stepping stones. The view from our spacious room and well fitted out bathroom was idyllic. This was unfortunately let down by the service, which was frankly borderline Fawlty Towers at times (a lot of which could easily be rectified). Examples were the wrong wine bottle served for the dinner, foods not replenished at the buffet part of the breakfast, condiments missing at the table (or the staff forgetting to ask), items on the menu unavailable and being forgotten about for the breakfast order. On the plus side, things were rectified quickly with due apology in most occasions. Would not recommend until the basics are sorted - especially if you are the type of person where these sort of niggling things easily spoil your experience.…
Pleasant, spacious, comfortable room with a glorious view; excellent food and the most helpful, kindly staff imaginable. Premises well-decorated and maintained, clean and bright with attractive gardens outside - and a stile leading to the footpath from Ilam to Dove Dale and the stepping stones.
What a beautiful hotel with such friendly staff. The views from our room were beautiful. The food was amazing. We will definitely tell our friends , & we will definitely be coming back . We took the short walk to the stepping stones , February a good time to visit , as we can imagine would be very very busy in the summer .
Another lovely weekend break at the Isaak Walton. The setting is glorious and, with the bright winter sunshine and dusting of snow, it was picture perfect. The view from the dining room and copious delicious breakfast really set us up for the day too.
My Friend recommended this hotel as her parents have had a special occasion here in the past which they loved and we come to Derbyshire every year to celebrate my mum's birthday as she is no longer with us . This hotel is set in a gorgeous location, very oldie worldie. Staff were brilliant and room was lovely and cosy ( we had a twin room ) the view was gorgeous with one of those seats at the window. Food was amazing we booked the haddon restaurant and had ribeye. Breakfast I would say is probably one of the best I've had at a hotel, lovely poached eggs and well done bacon and pain aux chocolat was the best I've ever had, they have their own pastry chef! I have booked to come back for one night on 10th Feb with my Boyfriend for our 2 year Anniversary so can show him how lovely the hotel is, hoping they do the Pain Aux Chocolat's all the time as need to have another one as they were too delicious! Also take a trip down to the stepping stones the scenery is stunning, easy to get to from the hotel. Thank you Izaak Walton for a wonderful stay, special memories made with my lovely friend!…
