This hotel gets fabulous reviews in the main but suspect this is mostly for weddings/afternoon tea which they serve much of. As 'ordinary' guests we were quite underwhelmed. The staffing seemed to be casual at best with nobody on reception when we arrived and nobody...More

The previous answer is correct in that the nearest station is Matlock and then it is bus or taxi. The reviewer who suggested that you could get to Manchester from Matlock had not made allowances for the closures instigated by Dr Beeching in 1966 since the line from Bakewell to Buxton (The Monsal Trail) is now a brilliant walking track with all the tunnels open to make a fascinating experience. The express bus into Buxton and then the train would be the simplest way to get to Manchester. Alternatively the local bus to Sheffield and then the train.
