Just back from an amazing weekend in Bristol celebrating my birthday. Had a fantastic room on the 6th floor overlooking Pero's Bridge and the city beyond, really clean, loads of space and a really comfortable bed. What made it extra special was coming back to find a card and a bottle of red wine from the housekeeping team wishing me a Happy Birthday. Got another card and an extra birthday dessert too at dinner (see photo.) Having a lovely restaurant (River Grille) and a superb bar (Rick's) as well made it a pretty much perfect stay and we'll return for sure!

We have just returned from three nights at the Bristol Hotel. I have stayed there previously with employers and that is what drew me back there this time, coupled with a very affordable rate through booking.com. I can't really say enough positive things about this hotel. First up, the comms with the hotel for any questions prior to the visit are great and that is not something that all hotels are particularly good at. They cleared up the parking which is £9 per exit for guests of the hotel and is adjacent to the hotel with easy exits and entrances right onto the floors, and extremely competitive in price given that for other hotels in the area offering discounts for NCP car parks at twice this price! The hotel kindly upgraded us to a larger room for free, which was lovely. Plenty spacious, bed was very comfy, nespresso machine and standard tea and coffee services in the room. 55" TV with chromecast available which is really rare, and a real creature comfort, especially in this climate when I think if you are staying at a venue for more than one night and for a bit of a getaway (as we were), you are more likely to spend a bit more time in your room than you normally would. We used room service for drinks which was very friendly and remarkably cheap, we had breakfast which has plenty of choices and always cooked to perfection, the full english is really nice and like all good breakfasts, it can be endless. We didn't eat lunch or dinner at the hotel but I have on previous visits and the food is faultless. The thing that really stood out for me though is the service. It is willing but discreet, as a previous reviewer mentions, COVID-19 protocols are clear and effective but they have worked to make sure the comfort of the guests remains important. That is quite an achievement at the moment and all the staff are lovely, during these trying times that needs to be recognised. The location is ideal, the harbour is probably the most aesthetically pleasing area in the city, there is a taxi rank right outside for further trips and there is a variety of restaurants and bars just a walk over the bridge away. At the price you pay for a four star hotel, for what they are delivering, especially during COVID-19, this is a pretty special place and easy to miss amongst the flurry of cheap chain hotels. We will definitely return and it is easy to see why it is so popular with businesses too. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

I stayed here for a conference.
Check in was quick and easy with friendly, helpful staff that gave me an umbrella for the rain and pointed me in the right directions for places I needed to go. The reception seemed small until you see a regency looking seating/lounge area on one side of the reception desk and on the other side are steps to more seating areas either side a walkway to a bar area and a restaurant found downstairs with the entire wall made of glass to see the scenic harbour views.
On entry, the room had a long full mirror on the door of a wardrobe which holds the iron & iron boarding, a safe, spare towels, a fan, a hairdryer, a shelf and a hanging rail. As you walk more into the room, there's a luggage stand and a desk with the laundry details and tea/coffee facilities in and bottles of water on. The heating is controlled by a standing radiator and there's a comfortable double bed with bedside tables that had drawers, pull-out writing shelves and had lamps on. There are also European & American sockets, an adjustable wall lamp near the desk and a circular face mirror within the room.
The bathroom has a double shower, the usual toiletries and a separate magnifying mirror.
Great view of the harbour from room.
There is a small gym with weights, swiss balls & a few cardio equipment. Water, towels and even apples are also provided.
The conference was in a separate building separted by the entranced to their carpark. Before exiting the reception to go to the conference centre, there is a small business centre with a couple of computers in separte booths with printers.
The conference centre had separate conference rooms with more seating areas outside.

We stayed in this hotel last weekend for our daughters 21st birthday. The hotel is in a good location in the centre of Bristol with everything a short walk away which proved useful this past weekend with the dreadful weather we experienced during our stay. The hotel kindly offered us an early check-in which was very helpful given we arrived mid morning into the city. Cari in reception was brilliant our whole time there as she sorted everything out and even doubled up as concierge before we left. She was wonderful both at check-in and allowing us a late check out as well. So many thanks to her. We had a birthday dinner in the restaurant and this was also top quality and reasonably priced. Victor from Portugal and all the rest of the staff were wonderful and despite it being very busy they had time to joke and chat and prepare a special celebratory dessert and sing song for the birthday girl. Which was very welcome. Given the current restrictions there was only 4 of us and these little things helped make it all better for her. There is a nice atmosphere in the bar area and plenty of comfortable seating. There are however a few negatives that are not staff or service related. We had 2 rooms on the third floor. The bedrooms were very large, comfortable clean and tidy however the bathrooms are far too small and awkward and there was very little cupboard space. The net curtains on the windows would also need replaced. In the foyer we found it a little bit disconcerting where the reception is situated behind two large columns, you would hardly see it. The hotel is operated by the Doyle group and we have stayed in other hotels of theirs this past year (Westbury in Dublin and River Lee in Cork). Compared to these in my opinion the Bristol would require a little bit of updating. I don't know what their intentions are for the hotel and I know it hasn't been the easiest time for hoteliers this past year but this hotel could be excellent if some money was spent on it particularly the foyer and bedrooms/bathrooms. All in all a nice hotel with friendly staff and good service.

Dear Airfield123, Thank you for sharing your feedback with the online community and for choosing The Bristol to celebrate your daughter's 21st Birthday. It's encouraging to see that in spite of your stay clearly falling below your expectations, that you took the time to note the numerous positives you also experienced over the course of your short break with us. Starting with those positives: our historic harbourside position rarely fails to impress our visitors wishing to explore Bristol; we are extremely proud of our team who strive to deliver a very high level of customer service to make our guest feel welcome while away from home. It's always rewarding to receive such fantastic feedback regarding those areas. Especially your mentions to Cari, our Front Office Supervisor and Victor, our Head Waiter As for the bathroom, we fully acknowledge that our en-suites are smaller than our guests will perhaps anticipate, especially when compared to those now provided throughout the industry and found in those modern purpose-built properties, and as avid users of Trip Advsor yourselves, you will have noted this pre-arrival. The footprint of many of our rooms still exists from the original 1964 design. We have reduced the number of rooms by over 30% over the years to re-address this balance and we are planning to refurbish further towards in the near future. We are confident that if you were to reconsider to return, and spoke with us directly, rather than via this online platform, we would be able to provide you both with the assurance necessary to facilitate a much more enjoyable weekend with us. And as always we would like to thank you for sharing your review, and presenting us with that invaluable insight, from your unique perspective, that will help us to drive improvements and action change for the benefit of all of us. We very much look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards, Marta Padron Director of Operations The Bristol

Came to Bristol for a long weekend to see opera at the hippodrome. This hotel is centrally situated, and car parking in the NCP next door, which has electric car charging spaces, at a very reasonable price. The car park has entrances into the hotel at several levels so you don’t have to go back down to the lobby.
The room rate was very reasonable, including a buffet style breakfast, fairly standard offerings batch cooked not freshly prepared for each individual.
Staff were unfailingly helpful and polite. The room was undistinguished but clean, reasonable size, and a pleasant bathroom. Another time I would request a room at the back for the nicer view, but there was no noise from the street as the room was triple glazed.
I would use it again because of the reasonable price, excellent location, and available electric car charging

Dear BobHarvey, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your very positive guest journey with us and the Trip Advisor community - it's great to see that our commitment to sustainability - more specifically in your case with the provision of those charging points in the NCP car park next door - enhanced your overall experience considerably. We very rarely receive anything but the highest of praise for our excellent team, and they will again be delighted to see that they have looked after yet another visitor to the hotel so well. Unfortunately, operationally we are currently unable to provide plated breakfasts on a large scale, but it is something we are aiming towards in the future. Please do make sure that the next time you are making a reservation with us that you contact us directly so we can guarantee one of those enviable harbourside rooms. In the meantime, stay safe, and all the best to you and your loved ones. Warmest regards, Brett Atkinson Business Excellence Manager The Bristol

Easy access from the station & all local attractions with local service & transport within a minutes walk, superb attentive & professional reception staff, our room on the 6th floor was spotless and very quiet. The hotel had a good vibe in the evening with a full restaurant & bar with live music (pianist & a saxophonist). The River Grille is a must with a superb choice on the menu and friendly professional staff.

Dear greenhalghrd, Thank you ever so much for taking the time to put together such a wonderful review of your recent stay with us at The Bristol! How lovely it is to read through your review with some of my favourite adjectives being selected to describe your experience. 'Exceptional, superb, professional' are all words the entire time strive for. I can't thank you enough for your kind words as it has a profound positive impact on each member of staff within the hotel. There are times during the weekend buzz where I find myself lingering in the River Lounge to enjoy such talented musicians and relish in the atmosphere created. I'm happy to see that you thoroughly enjoyed the vibes whilst dining in our harbourside side restaurant, The River Grille. We can't wait to welcome you back to The Bristol to enjoy more of the same exceptional quality you received from your first visit. Very best, Charlie Gourlay Guest Relations Manager The Bristol

We stayed here for the first 2 nights of our honeymoon on the way to Devon. It had great parking with access to the hotel from inside the car park so there was no need to go outside to come back in with suitcases, etc. When we got to the room we had a lovely surprise of a personalized card and a bottle of prosecco, which was amazing and a very special touch. The hotel was nice and clean, fairly modern, the rooms were quiet and had great access to the city and places to eat and drink, We had a few drinks in the bar and they had a great choice including cocktails. We chose not to have breakfast in the hotel as we were so near to a lot of restaurants and cafes, but the price was the same whether you booked online or in person on your stay so we thought that was reasonable.

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at The Bristol and both times we have had a lovely stay. The location of the hotel is perfect, right by the harbourside so you are a stones throw from everything so perfect for exploring Bristol. Parking is available next door at the NCP and reception is accessible from there. Check in was quick and the staff were lovely and friendly. Plenty of hand sanitizer available in reception and on each floor and masks are to be worn in all communal areas. Our room was located on the top floor with a lovely view over the harbourside. Room was clean with a big comfy bed and nice size bathroom.
We didn't eat in the restaurant but had a drink in the bar area which is really nice.

All in all we loved our stay and will definitely stay here again.

The Bristol was the best possible choice for a visit to Bristol City Centre. An arrangement with NCP made parking cheap and easy, with direct access to the hotel. The hotel is situated on the harbour with easy walking routes to explore major attractions including SS Great Britain. Pero's footbridge led directly to a leisure area. Local buses are within easy reach for exploring further afield. Shops and restaurants are nearby.
The hotel staff balance excellent service with a friendly approach. Covid protocols were in place and we felt very safe.
Our room overlooked the water [though not all do]. Lively bars etc. opposite meant some evening noise but this was not a problem for us. The room was a nice size and had tasteful decor and furnishings and ample power outlets and a desk and chair for anyone needing to work. The queen sized bed was the most comfortable ever experienced. A huge TV graced one wall. Tea and coffee (including Nespresso pods) were provided and refreshed every day. The en-suite bathroom was also well-appointed and toiletries and towels provided - even robes and slippers.
Access to all areas was by lift and stairs. [Steps to the bar and restaurant may be a problem for the disabled so enquire if you have mobility difficulty]. Public areas had comfortable sofas and fruit punch was available every afternoon. The bar seemed a little gloomy by day but the soft lighting was cosy for the evening. The reception lounge was quiet and near large windows for those that need daylight. The restaurant has a limited menu but is quiet and refined for an evening meal. A pianist provided music at the weekend. For breakfast this area is well organised and the food attractively set out and frequently refreshed with a good selection. There is a pleasant outlook over the water.
Our trip was for a special occasion and the hotel made it even more special. Thank you to all staff.

The Bristol is located in the Harbourside area, close to places like the Arnolfini Gallery, M Shed and SS Great Britain and to a lot of bars and restaurants (which can get a little noisy at a weekend). One side has views, through trees, over the water. That is the side on which the restaurant is located.
Our room had plenty of space - though the bathroom was, oddly, a little cramped - with an extremely comfortable bed, but rather dated décor. The fittings were somewhat different from another room which we visited, implying they had been refurbished at different times, though neither extremely recently. The WiFi quality was good.
There is a large lounge bar, where we had a drink before a very good dinner in the restaurant. However, breakfast the next morning was of a somewhat lower quality in both food and service terms, and we had a distinct sense that they were struggling with the COVID-19 limitations. That sense was reinforced in another aspect by some minor difficulties our friends had with rooms that were not fully equipped on arrival.
On the other hand, the price was very sensible for the standard and location, and the front desk staff were exceptionally helpful, volunteering information and assistance beyond what we asked for. They alone have moved our rating up a notch.

Dear Peter C, Thank you for sharing your feedback not only TripAdvisor but also through our in-house survey provided to all guests at the end of their stay. It is lovely to see some of your positive comments replicated on both outlets, especially our excellent staff and convenient parking arrangements! As mentioned in this site previously,, we fully acknowledge that some of our en-suites are smaller than our guest's will expect. Especially when compared to those now provided throughout the industry and found in those modern purpose-built properties - the footprint of many of our rooms still exists from the original 1964 design. I can only apologise for the negative impact the room allocation had on your for this occasion. I can see from your survey that it is likely that you will return to The Bristol for another getaway in the city. We look forward to that date and having the opportunity to turn those four-stars into five. Warm Regards Marta Padron Deputy General Manager The Bristol
