We live in Bristol so we stayed here as a treat after spending the afternoon wandering around Clifton. As others have said, the decor is very dark throughout, and while this lends a feel of elegant sophistication to the place it can be problematic in the bedroom, especially given the rather idiosyncratic lighting system. That minor quibble aside, the room (228) was excellent, with a huge and comfortable bed, fridge, safe and ironing facilities. The characterful bathroom was a good size with a decent amount of shelf space and a power shower on offer. The bathroom also - it seems- had underfloor heating (the floor was always nice and warm anyway). The breakfast was good as was the service, and the view from the breakfast room overlooking the Clifton Bridge must be the best in Bristol. An excellent hotel and definitely worth staying at.

Amazing birthday stay - what a fantastic hotel. Great location, right next to the Clifton Suspension Bridge. We had a great view of it from our room and had a nice walk over and up to the observatory. The reception and breakfast staff couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly. The Eggs Benedict were the best I’ve ever tasted. It is dark in the bedrooms due to the beautiful sash windows but the decor is very classy. Also a modern bathroom which looked brand new. For those who want brightly lit, soulless grey rooms - book somewhere else. I wouldn’t bother with the pub next door as it did seem overpriced and canteen-like. A five min walk to Clifton Village and there’s the characteristic Bristol Fringe with tasty local ales and Somerset House with a huge selection of gins. We also booked the Lido for a swim and spa - very refreshing! We walked down to the harbour for a few drinks and had an Uber back up the hill! Would also recommend the New Moon Tapas in Clifton, stunning food and reasonably priced. All in all a great trip and we will definitely return.

I booked a table for Sunday lunch as I had Italian friends staying with me and thought the meal should be reasonably good with an excellent view. Well the view was stunning, our waitress was excellent, however the food was very poor. The belly pork was pure fat - it definitely hadn’t been slow roasted. The desert said spiced fruit ( a pot of mincemeat) As my guest is a Head Chef I had pre- warned him that it probably wouldn’t be the best meal that he had eaten but that the view would make up for it. Sadly the meal was worse than mediocre. As we left the restaurant the chefs were standing in a cluster chatting in the exit route. Very disappointing. I would not return .

We stayed at this hotel for three nights in December and as the title suggests the breakfast was great. The service was great and the view of the Clifton suspension bridge from the restaurant was also worth the visit. However, I do have a few not so good comments. We stayed in room 417 this was classed as a cosy room which it was. Being on the top floor and at the end of a corridor it was blissfully quite. But it was very dark especially in the bathroom. Ladies beware take a torch to help with make-up. The bedside light needed tightening and we asked three times at reception for this to be fixed and it finally on our last night it was. We treated our friends to a drink in the bar at lunch time and I was a little annoyed that one of the waitresses chased me out of the bar onto the outside area where in front of my friends accused me of forgetting to pay. I of course had paid and I showed her the receipt. I wasn't impressed with that.

The hotel was absolutely lovely, exactly what I had imagined, the staff were so helpful, especially Miss Valentina at reception, she personally escorted me to my room, helped me with my bags and answered every question I had! All in all definitely one of the best hotels I've stayed at in Bristol!
