The Rodney Hotel comes highly recommended for its prime location in Clifton Village, with guests enjoying the proximity to local eateries and attractions. While the rooms are praised for cleanliness and comfort, including quality bedding and amenities like fruit and tea, some guests have noted them to be on the smaller side with occasional temperature issues. The staff garners appreciation for their attentive service, although there are rare mentions of breakfast service hiccups. Overall, the hotel is considered a charming and cozy option that provides good value for money.

I was so delighted by the friendly greeting and then the care, warmth and support from the staff, which felt very genuine throughout my stay at The Rodney Hotel. I can pinpoint multiple occasions when a member of the team went above and beyond to ensure I was OK and had everything I needed.

The hotel itself is extremely good value and ideally located for some of the top places to dine and visit in Bristol. You wouldn't need a car due to the great proximity to amenities and sites of huge historical and cultural interest. The transport links from outside the Rodney are also perfectly situated. It is important to state that, despite the convenient situation and accessibility of bars, restaurants and cafes, etc, the hotel is tucked away and one feels peaceful there. It is not noisy and I felt 100% safe as a single lone female.

The room I was in had everything I needed. Including a fridge, which is frustratingly rare in most British hotels. The bed was single and the room very small, but this was exactly what I needed and it felt cosy and clean and was well stocked with tea, coffee, biscuits, fruit and soaps, hairdryers, etc. Fir an additional cost you can purchase items from the well stocked mini bar and eat at the restaurant within the hotel. I didn't, so cannot comment on the food quality. However, the drinks and atmosphere were just what I love.

The shower was hot. The bathroom spotless and the lighting, sockets etc were ideally placed and more than adequate.

In terms of things I would highlight as potential issues are that there is no lift and no ground floor rooms, so this is obviously not somewhere anyone with high mobility issues could stay. I have some myself and did struggle with the stairs but the receptionist carried my bags and brought up items to my room I needed during my stay so I only had to negotiate them a couple of times a day. Secondly, the curtains did not fully cover the windows and it took a lot of effort and faff to get them to meet in the middle. Bearing in mind there are properties behind the hotel, I felt a little exposed at night. However, if the curtains are replaced with heavier, wider style this would resolve the issue so easily. Other than those, I can't fault the Rodney, especially for the value and level of service. I'd 100% stay there again and recommend to friends and family.

Im so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and found reception to be helpful. The lovely single room came with a well-filled mini-bar en all the soaps and lotions you could want in a bathroom, also tea and coffee making facilities, radio, cd player and tv. The bed was comfortable and everything was clean. 10 minute walk to the Clifton suspension bridge, 20 minutes to the College Green or to the harbour.

Stayed at The Rodney Hotel for one night whilst visiting family in Bristol. The hotel is well located in the Clifton area within walking distance of cafes, restaurants etc. The hotel has a few parking spaces
available on a first come basis but we didn't need to use these as we travelled by public transport. The welcome at reception was warm and friendly. Our room was a small double. Despite it's compact size it was clean and well-equipped. It was one of three rooms on the basement level but had a window onto the rear garden. The window was single-glazed as befitting the Georgian building but rather draughty in the face of Storm Dennis. Some curtains that fitted better at the sides could have remedied this. Also located on this level were some service areas (including possibly the kitchen) and this did generate some noise in the evening. Directly above us was a dining area. There was some noise whilst this appeared to be set up for the evening but subsequent to this it was not too bad. All in all a pleasant place to stay.

Dear Tracey H, I really appreciate you taking the time to review your stay. As a small independent Bristol company we rely on feedback from our guests. I'm glad you enjoyed the location. We are indeed coveniently located in the heart of Clifton village and benefit from being surrounded by lovely shops and restaurants as well as being really close to the Suspension Bridge. I am happy to read you found the hotel nice and clean, the housekeeping team works very hard to make sure our guests are staying in well equipped and clean rooms. Being a listed building we are unable to install double glazing but thank you for bringing the issues you had regarding the draughts to my attention, I'll be following up on those making any changes. I am sorry that you experienced noise during your stay with us, we send out a courtesy email prior to guest arrival to ensure guests have an opportunity to request a higher floor room, however I am sorry if this was not clear or did not reach you. I really hope you will return to us the next time you visit Bristol, and thanks again for leaving us this review. Best wishes, Fabiola

I’ve just returned from a 3 night stay at The Rodney Hotel. The property is slightly quirky but looks quite modern and fresh in the main reception rooms on the ground floor. The staff were all, without exception, helpful and charming. The rooms are however in real need of modernisation. The use of blankets on the beds (as opposed to a crisp duvet cover) made me want to itch and then the wonky Lino covered bathroom floor, non-flushing toilet, slow draining tiny shower cubicle and wash hand basin with a plug that jammed closed said the rest. Such a shame. I am looking forward to a good night’s sleep now I’m home...

Dear nsymesfrazer, I am really happy to hear that you found our staff helpful and charming, they work hard to always make sure that our customer service is at its best. On the other hand, I would like to apologise for the issues you experienced in your room and assure you that they have now been addressed and fixed by our great maintenance team. I am sorry to hear that you did not appreciate our blankets, we do understand your concern, however, I can guarantee that we follow a rigid procedure in sanitising all beddings regularly. Furthermore, we feel like they are complementary with the classic feel that characterises our hotel. I would really appreciate if you could get in touch to discuss any further feedbacks you might have, my email address is fabiola.tomeo@qrter.com. I do hope that you stay with us again in the future and are able to enjoy the experience that our guests typically receive at the Rodney Hotel. Kind Regards, Fabiola Hotel Operations Manager

On arrival room wasn't ready so I went to grab some lunch, I was allocated room 15 on entry I have never seen such a tiny hotel room in all my life and the space was ridiculous....the single bed in the corner was so uncomfortable I couldn't sleep all night. In the morning I requested whether could take my breakfast in my room which they said no I have to eat downstairs, now bare in mind my room cost £58 with breakfast included, the room I was given I would say was worth £35.00. I don't rate it at all and the bathroom honestly the seals were black in places, I wish I had booked in premier inn. I've never been to a hotel that charges £58 and you get a single bed in the tiniest room.

Dear 379manjeetd, I am sorry to read that you were disappointed with your recent stay with us. Being part of a lovely Victorian building does mean that our room sizes can vary in size and shape, however we have designed each room with comfort and practicality in mind and our reception team are available 24h and they are always happy to offer you an alternative room if the one you have been preallocated does not encounter your expectations. I am surprised to hear that you were unhappy with the pricing of this single room, however I will follow this up to ensure that we are continually offering the best possible rates. I hope I was able to reassure you that I take all guest feedback extremely seriously and, as I said over the phone, I have now introduced the grab and go breakfast to make sure that all guests have the possibility to have their breakfast if they dodn't want to eat in the restaurant. I hope you will give us another chance to stay with us again in the future in order to rectify your experience. Please don’t hesitate to email me on fabiola.tomeo@cliftonhotels.com if you would like to discuss this or any future stays further. All the best, Fabiola

I chose this hotel based on its proximity to a nearby conference venue, so I could avoid morning traffic in Bristol. When I 'm working away from home my requirements are pretty basic: a clean room, plenty of hot water and clean towels plus a comfy bed with crisp fresh bedding. The Rodney ticked all those boxes. If I'm honest my room looked about ready for a decor refresh, but I had no complaints about cleanliness.

Its an old building (looks Georgian) complete with period features such as sash windows, exposed wooden floors, high ceilings, winding staircase and mature gardens. Situated in a short crescent set slightly back from the main road, parking is limited to 5 hotel spaces available on a first come, first served basis. However, there is nearby street parking available using pay and display or with a hotel parking permit, for which I was charged a reasonable rate of just £8 for 24 hours. The hotel staff were also really nice and helpful.

I dined out with colleagues the evening I stayed but breakfast the next day was excellent, with a large selection and I was served two perfectly poached eggs. It was a very peaceful stay, I slept really well with my window open and wasn't aware of any noise coming from the surrounding streets, which was a pleasant surprising given the amount of bars and restaurants that were within an extremely short walk of the hotel.

Did I get value for money? Yes

Was I looked after well? Yes

Most importantly, would I stay there again? Yes

Great location, very friendly staff and a lovely breakfast. Room / Bed was quite small (smaller than our double at home?), and my husband found it a bit uncomfortable, although I was fine! The room included basic toiletries, although it was quite tricky to use the shower toiletries as they were locked in place to avoid people taking them. Understandable, but if made the mechanism quite tricky to use when wet and slippery!

I had a short break at the Rodney hotel in Clifton. Upon arrival I was greeted with a warm & welcoming smile from receptionist Hannah who attended to my booking efficiently & professionally. During my stay the reception staff Beth & Annabelle made sure that I was comfortable & had everything I needed while being very customer focused & engaging in conversation at all times. The breakfast was delicious served too us by another member of staff that was very attentive. My room was a single which I requested, it was roomy with lovely fresh towels, shampoo & conditioner etc etc, The housekeeping staff had done a very good job making sure I had everything for a good comfortable stay. The only little thing I would say is there was a little dust on the skirting board but that didn’t bother me as the hotel & all the staff are lovely & I recommend this hotel. Thank you

The hotel is easy to find and has a number of parking spaces in front of the hotel which there is a charge for but limited spaces. Very welcoming staff on reception, be aware there are no lifts. Our room was on the first floor over looking the front of the hotel, we had a double room which I have to say for the money was very small and a little disappointing, there was everything you needed in the room including tea and coffee, fruit etc. We had breakfast in the dining room which was very plentiful with plenty of choices and had dinner there in the evening. We had dinner and breakfast included, slight problem when sorting out the bill but a very helpful receptionst sorted it in the end. The menu was not large but enough choices on there for everyone. There is a bar and a lovely garden at the back with table and chairs and umbrellas, a nice area to sit for a drink. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel could do with a little tlc in certain areas but everything was clean and very presentable. There is a bus stop just outside the property which is very useful and the Clifton Suspension Bridge is a very short walk away.

We have visited Clifton a number of times, but this was our first stay at the Rodney Hotel. We were very impressed and have already booked again for our next trip.

We booked one of the hotel’s small bedroom, the price was very reasonable. The room was as described, but I have stayed in smaller. It had a comfortable double bed and a small, clean and adequate bathroom. It was on the third floor of a charming old building, there is no lift, but this was made clear before we booked. Our room overlook the hotel’s private garden.

There were some really nice touches in the room that made us feel very welcome. These included freshly ground coffee, leaf tea and fresh fruit. The was also a fridge/minibar that we were able to use. The bathroom also had good quality soap and shampoo provided.

I thought the staff were excellent, pleasant and really helpful. There is 24 hours reception too. We did not eat at the hotel, but the restaurant looked great, and we will try it next time. Overall, this hotel was great value and I have no hesitation in recommending it.
