The Hilton Cambridge City Centre is lauded for its prime location near shops and universities, and guests often enjoy the welcoming vibe created by the piano bar and live music. While the service is generally regarded as professional and the hotel praised for its cleanliness, some guests have experienced slow service. Room comfort receives positive remarks, although opinions on decor and noise levels vary. Despite the appreciation for amenities like the excellent breakfast, travelers caution against the additional cost of parking and room rates.

We stayed two nights end July in the King Executive Suite as we held our daughter’s wedding reception at the hotel. Every aspect was perfect and every detail was as planned. Congratulations to all the staff in particular Celine, Sara, Renata, Kathleen, Larry, Alan, the F & B team, bar teams and restaurant team, Janelle so helpful in booking our suite, the Reception team, Ben the Chef and the kitchen and waiting staff the food was perfect! Our heartfelt thanks for such a wonderful day from start to finish. This is our second event at the hotel, the first was our grandson’s christening and we would not hesitate to recommend or return. We have received so many compliments from our guests many of whom stayed and appreciated the reserved breakfast area for the wedding guests the next morning so we could all be seated together. Thank you for outstanding service in every department you should all be proud of yourselves!

This hotel is very situated for easy walking g distance of the main City centre sights and facilities. The rooms are fairly basic especially considering the room rates but ultimately you are paying for the location. The valet parking at £30 per night is straight forward and efficient and a definite bonus for such a central location.
The breakfast is very very good with a an excellent selection for this type of hotel.

Surprisingly big. Modern hotel - very clean and comfortable. Room was fairly small but not cramped.

Staff were friendly and helpful. The valet parking was £30 and they kindly extended it by two hours free of charge (until 4pm).

Didn’t eat there - the breakfast was expensive. But there are some great cafes nearby and a huge number of restaurant choices. It’s very central!

Right in the middle of downtown historic Cambridge, this is a large and modern hotel with comfortable beds. It was surprisingly quiet, as well, with minimal noise heard from outside. Valet parking is expensive, but no more so than self-parking overnight in a city parking lot. Worth it!

Good location for corn exchange but we did not feel welcomed. We travelled as a couple to see a concert at the corn exchange.

I’ve listed pros and cons, but would not personally stay here again. For the price we expected more than what appeared to be self service for everything. We had a king room. Not sure if our faces didn’t fit or we were just unlucky with timing of when we did everything, but it didn’t feel like we were welcome from checking in to leaving.

Pros:
1) Concierge very helpful when we arrived, helped us with bags on escalator and showed us to reception.
2) We were able to check in early as room was ready.
3) Piano bar was nice and not busy (but you do have to go up to the bar for service).
4) Good selection at breakfast

Cons:
1) Reception only had one person who was on a long phone call when we arrived so after concierge dropped us off we just had to stand and wait (was a bit awkward)

2) Rooms were a little tired. Wallpaper starting to peel, carpet frayed/ lifting at edges. Mattress so soft when you sit down it’s flat. We had a king room which was not the cheapest, I asked about accessibility, when I booked, for my disabled partner and they confirmed it was suitable. But the room only had a shower over bath so she was not able to shower.

3) When we went for breakfast we stood and waited to be seated but no one came. We stood awkwardly again not knowing if we could just enter or if they needed to mark us off somehow. Plenty of staff walking around, made eye contact with a few (3) of them no one came so we just sat ourselves down and had breakfast and coffees etc. (Staff managed to walk across us several times). Other guests were being shown where things were and shown how to get coffee. No one even spoke to us the whole time we were there. Not even a good morning. The restaurant was not busy at the time.

4) When we checked out we were not asked how our stay was. Just a thanks and bye. We used self service to call ourselves a taxi to train station.

Have stayed at this hotel before for a short break and again it did not disappoint.
Perfect location for walking into the shops and local bars and restaurants. My wife and I stayed here for some late xmas shopping.
Car drop off was seamless as was the collection in the morning so well worth the money. Breakfast was impressive and a huge variety of food both hot and cold and the staff were very attentive.
Our room was ready early which was an added bonus (we arrived around 1pm) and being a HH member I used the app to check in and get the electronic key via the app which was a blessing as when we arrived there was a large queue at the reception and we just went straight up to our room (so highly recommend this).
The room was large and clean and we had chosen a high floor and quiet side of the hotel (by selecting the room on the app). The only reason for 4 stars (and not 5) was the outdated decor in the rooms which although clean, look dated. Also a kettle and some Nescafe sachets were a tad disappointing in the room these days.

Stayed here for 5 nights. The location of the hotel is good, very central and near the colleges and shops/restaurants.
However, my check in experience was rarher disappointing. The staff handling it was not friendly and did not provide the correct information to me, ie she mentioned that the extra I was paying for the additional guests in my room did not include breakfast (the next day, I checked with someone else and turned out it did include breakfast). Also, as I had arrived before check in time, I went off for lunch first and thereafter returned to collect my room key. There was only one staff at the counter and there was someone ahead of me so I queued up. Then another male staff came out and I approached him to ask if he could help me and he then asked me to queue back at the original queue as he was apparently busy not doing much. A few mins after I waited, another male guest came to the counter and that same male staff then immediately assisted him. I am not sure whether it had anything to do with racism or being female but it was indeed not a pleasant check in experience.
Breakfast spread was otherwise good and there were other friendly staff in the hotel.

I stayed for 5 nights and really the hotel needs to up its game - room servicewas so poor, connecting on the phone to the restaurant, room service was a task in itself, this took 15 mins - how can this be - 70 mins to deliver room service after chasing 3 times - then when it arrived it was cold - for info no body in the restaurant so should have been quick and fast - all I got was an apology no offer to correct it quickly and fast - in the end went out to get takeaway from KFC and it was hot! Spoke to the manager on check out again no offer and this was after the second night .. customer unhappy should have been aware and proactive .. sorry is very easy to say but sometimes action and quick response is good and needed - the other element is the cleaning adhoc for the price you expect very good service - I had stayed in the Ibis in Cambridge at the station the pervious week - half the price and the staff were very proactive and service so much better - time to step up especially given the number of staff on and limited customers in the bar restaurant ! Truly a major disappointment

Dear tomrW5846UJ, Thank you for taking the time to post your review on tripadvisor.com following your recent 5-night stay with us to 17th January. I was both disheartened to learn of the service and response you received raising the in-room dining and housekeeping service defects, which I would appeal in terms of both it's context and dialogue are truly isolated and sincerely apologise for their occurrence. The team were indeed aware of the room service incident and I won't bore you with the reasons following an investigation, however we are addressing the shortcomings with the team. I do note that you failed to add to your review that you were written an apology letter and all costs for your room service meal were refunded by our Front of House manager with whom you spoke. We also flagged your room with the Housekeeping team to ensure that all care was taken with some re-training of the team. However I note and hope, with this exception, your stay proved both satisfactory and enjoyable. Once again thank you for your constructive review and we look forward to your return to the Hilton Cambridge City Centre. I hope we have that honour. Yours sincerely, Richard.

On the positive side the hotel is perfectly situated for visiting Cambridge and has an underground car park, albeit expensive at £30 a day. The bar area is very cosy also. We were given a nice room on the ground floor however the room was really cold and the aircon made no difference. We noticed a portable electric heater in the room - which we used - so clearly Hilton know there is a problem with the ground floor rooms. We mentioned this at check and just got a shrug of the shoulder. We eat in the restaurant which was OK however the bill was confusing. The wine turned out to be £6 more than on the menu and we were charged 12% service charge even though I expressly declined to add a tip to the bill. Expected a lot more from the Hilton

Dear Venture63594280817, Thank you for your review. Your comments, both the great and not so great have been shared with all my senior team for immediate action. I have no excuses for the cold room and Reception service response you received. We continually ensure we have the correct team members and equipment to deliver excellent hospitality, care & service. I am sorry this did not seem the case during your visit. In regard to the cost for car parking, we charge £30 per night per car having increased the cost in February 2022 for the first time in over 4 years, and we are still less than the majority of City Centre multi-story car parks and other hotels. Our parking facility is secure, undercover and our team are available to valet park your car for you. All hotels do charge for this convenience in Cambridge as parking availability is at a premium and comes at a cost to provide. These costs are clearly advertised on our hotel website, upon entry to the hotel and all our team are aware if asked in advance. Please note that the 12% service charge is discretionary as stated on all our menus. Our team are trained to remove this immediately if requested by a guest if they feel the service was not up to standard. This is common practice in the majority of food & drink establishments. I do hope your experience does not prevent you from visiting us in the near future, and my apologies for this experience. Yours sincerely, Richard.

We stayed one night to attend a concert. This Hotel was top class from the moment we arrived at the front door where a member of staff directed us to the lift to reception. The reception staff were very professional & friendly. They explained the hotel areas and the rooms we had booked.

We had booked two rooms, one of which was an accessible room. This room was exactly as we had hoped. Wet room for shower, lower bed but not so low that you feel your on the floor & enough room to manage to manoeuvre around, in fact all the hotel areas were accessible for those with mobility needs.

The whole hotel including the bedrooms, bar areas were all very clean and uncluttered.
Lovely complimentary bathroom items. Nice to have bottles of water in the room.

We had a meal in the bar as restaurant not open on a Monday! The bar meal menu had good choices for us to select from.
The food was excellent, great quality and very well presented. Vegan ice cream was the best I’ve tasted! The staff were attentive to our table and made wonderful cocktails!

Room service was excellent with sandwiches & cocktails very tasty & welcome after the concert!

Now for breakfast WOW what a choice of varieties of foods on offer! The breakfast restaurant was very busy however you wouldn’t have known it as the staff were so efficient, calm under pressure. No dirty tables, all used crockery/cutlery was cleared & cleaned promptly.

The Poached eggs we requested were cooked to perfection, runny yoke with no water around them!
A lovely choice fresh fruit salad. The full English buffet was a great start to the day. We were to full to make pancakes or waffles!

If I had one very small criticism it would be at the Hot drinks area. Just 2 machines for making Tea/ Coffee/Hot Chocolate Quiet a queue waiting. I was also concerned as I saw young children making themselves Hot drinks without adult supervision!

Checkout was easy with invoice explained & staff ordering a taxi for us, The door member of staff helped us into the taxi with our cases.

We will definitely be back to experience this excellent hotel again. You may feel it’s expensive however, you will not regret having the full experience of a top quality hotel with very professional and friendly staff in all areas

Oh and it’s close to all the great shops for retail therapy as well!
