Travellers' Choice
Voted “City Hotel of the Year 2018” by The Sunday Times, The University Arms is Cambridge’s leading hotel. First established as a coaching-inn in 1834, the hotel was recently re-opened following a two-year refurbishment led by Royal architect, John Simpson, and interior designer, Martin Brudnizki. The hotel is also home to Parker’s Tavern, Tristan Welch’s quintessentially British brasserie, which has rapidly established itself as the city’s hottest bar and dining experience. Situated on historic Regent Street, in the heart of the city and adjacent to Parkers Piece; the hotel enjoys an enviable location in walking distance to the best the city has to offer. The full-service property offers 192 individually designed en-suite bedrooms and suites; a majestic ballroom and other meeting rooms, together with in-room and private dining facilities provided by Parker’s Tavern; as well as a well-stocked library, curated by Heywood Hill, the Mayfair booksellers, and a fully equipped gymnasium

Booked this hotel on the way to Cambridge which was very easy. Upon arrival we were greeted by someone taking our bags. The reception staff were very friendly and explained the details of our upgrade to us. The hotel is very clean and traditionally English looking. It’s a classic hotel and our room was a decent size with a balcony facing the green. The breakfast was ok and the lunch menu for vegetarians was also ok. I would definitely recommend this hotel but parking is a bit pricey at £40 for the night.

Great hotel for a one night stay passing through Cambridge. Staff were helpful and friendly. Room was lovely ( a cosy double ) perfectly big enough for a single traveller. Very comfortable bed, great bathroom with underfloor heating and powerful shower with high class toiletries. Only reason I didn’t give it five stars was the total lack of Covid protection in Parker’s Brasserie, where only one waiter was wearing a mask for dinner service and even then most of the time it was hanging off his ear. I mentioned it to the lady on the desk as I was leaving and her response was some of them have problems. This was not the case in the hotel where most staff were wearing masks. I would stay here again but maybe eat elsewhere?

New Years Eve. We had the pleasure of staying in the Wordsworth room for one night. Wow. Couldn’t fault it. So many thoughtful touches. Porters there to open the doors on arrival. Champagne and a personal card in the room. Wind in the Willows playing softly in the hallways and restrooms. A log fire in the library. Full gym access. Newspaper … What a uniquely stunning hotel this is. The decor, everywhere you look is just so tasteful. It’s evident that a fortune, a lot of time and thought has been put into the renovation of 2018, and the continued upkeep. Set menu in the restaurant was cooked to perfection .. Fresh, high quality ingredients combined thoughtfully and fantastically presented with service staff in great spirit and willing to make it a really special night. Breakfast the next morning, again just of a really high standard with a wide variety on offer. Exactly what you’d expect for such a refined hotel. We’d love to visit again in the future! Hopefully there’ll be live music in the ball room next NYE!! We snook in for a peek! Wow!! Thank you for super stay!

We have stayed twice but will not visit again. As other reviews have said we will book the Gonville. Arrived and room wasn’t ready, they said they’d call us but 4 hours later we made the assumption that it was ready because no one called!!! Eat elsewhere but then went to the bar for drinks, sat and waited but then when we tried to order drinks they were closed - no resident bar. We were told to order room service!!! I have never stayed anywhere where the staff assume that you are there to support their job. This is not and never will be 5* - interesting how many poor reviews have been left in the last year! Just not the management team to support a 5* hotel experience. We have given it two goes but that’s enough. They are seriously not interested in anything their customers have to say - they may respond to this saying “ We are sorry to hear blah blah blah” but nothing seems to change
