Stayed here for one night last weekend and was pleasantly surprised at our room. Modern and clean with all the facilities we needed. Bedroom was a bit hot and stuffy but a small fan was provided. We were able to leave our car in the carpark and walk into town which was about a 20-30 minute walk. Overall a pleasant stay, good value for money and good location. Would recommend and stay again!
We made this hotel our go to place for the weekend while we went racing at newmarket. Hotel is in an ideal location, shops not far away and train station about a ten minute walk. Hotel looks a little worn, could do with some modernisation, but it's friendly and welcoming, the room was a little on the small side, curtains outdated and didn't shut properly, the bathroom was small and the sink Was smaller, you couldn't fill the kettle up, self above sink, was a bit bizarre as you couldn't reach it properly if your tall, staff are friendly and breakfast was conteintal, selection of cereals, bread cossiants, hard boiled eggs and cheese and fruit, yogurts which set you up for the day, would I return, yes I would.
The plus side is that this hotel is relatively inexpensive for Cambridge, has a reasonable location, and the breakfast server was friendly and helpful. However, for these advantages, you get a hotel that is fairly old and basic - the ensuite bathroom was particularly rudimentary, both in terms of condition and ease of use. The coronavirus pandemic was attributed as the cause for not getting fresh towels and a room clean, along with the limited range of breakfast foodstuffs, so we'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
Stayed here for 1 night whilst visiting friends. Fantastic location and the staff were so friendly and helpful. I can't praise then enough. The room was small but cosy clean and tidy. Perfect for our needs. The bed was comfortable and the room had all the facilities you would expect. I would definitely recommend this hotel, it will be our go to accommodation when we visit Cambridge in the future!
I have rated this hotel 5 stars because the new owners are trying so hard to improve the reputation of the place. They are fully aware of the shortcomings they have inherited. The rooms are tired but they are spotlessly clean and the bedding is new. The staff are very accommodating and also truly interested in the feedback of the guests. They are working very hard to gradually improve the decor but Rome wasn't built in a day. With the recent ongoing restrictions imposed due to the virus, it will take a while to gather the finances to carry out any major improvements. What is important to me is that they are really trying. That the room was clean and the staff were all genuinely interested whether I was satisfied or not. We chose to dine in their Chinese Restaurant within the hotel and it was a very good decision. My husband informed me that the sweet & sour pork was the best he'd ever tasted. He ordered special fried rice with it and gave me all the meat from it. It was so tender it melted in my mouth. I had chicken and cashews which was also fabulous. We were offered a crushed mango dessert, I'd never tried it before but I'm very glad I did. It was delicious. They offer two menus, one is our typical westernised Chinese food and the other is authentic Chinese. Everything is totally fresh ingredients, nothing is pre cooked or prepared and I think that's what made the difference. The owner has chosen not to "China-up" the hotel nor the dining area as he says, he would like it to be authentic. He told us the Chinese people don't eat in restaurants that are covered in dragons and lanterns and that's not what he wants for his place either. Fair enough, I would have liked dragons though 🙃 Over all, I like this place and I really like the staff and their eagerness for us to have a good stay. I want to give a special thank you to the young chap who was serving and say "Don't worry, you're doing just fine." Lovely boy.…
