Stayed for two nights to visit family in the area, we had a family room with teenage kids which worked well for us as we had two double beds and a sofa bed. Service was really good and food was outstanding ate in the lounge area twice and the breakfast here is really good although could you add some grapefruit please. The rooms are tired but I note from the responses to other reviews that they are due to be refurbished and really the decor didn't stop the room being what we needed. There is only one reason that they didn't get 5 stars and that's the fact it has a huge marquee next to the hotel which had parties in both nights we were there and it was opposite our bedroom window. I don't know if it is owned and run by Holiday Inn or is a separate venture but the noise on the second night of coaches collecting people and those people shouting and laughing woke us all up in the early hours and took an hour to die down. If it is the hotel's then please think of your guests and if not then maybe you need to have words. We would stay again but would request a room well away from the marque! Overall a good trip

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review and we are pleased that you had an overall positive stay with us, and enjoyed some great food and were looked after well by the team. Please accept our sincere apologies for the noise disruption experienced during your stay and sorry that this was not communicated upon arrival along with the fact your room was allocated adjacent to the field. The hotel does own the land, however the event itself was independent to the hotel and was a one off private Christmas Party. Again we are very sorry for any disruption caused and will ensure relevant learning is taken. We do hope to be afforded the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future to allow us the chance to get that 5 out of 5 rating from you. Best Wishes, Martin Carpenter Guest Relations

Has a lovely stay at the HI Cambridge on a Saturday night in November whilst attending a local wedding. The hotel delivered everything we needed, nice clean room, very helpful and friendly team throughout the hotel, nice pool and one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve had. Short journey into Cambridge, approx £8 in a taxi and room rate half that of hotels in the centre. Would definitely stay again. Thank you.

Loved this hotel it way surpassed our expectations. 10 mins from the centre cost about £8 each way in a taxi. The lobby area was lovely clean and tidy and the staff very attentive. Every member of staff we spoke to was lovely and I would say it’s the best breakfast buffet I’ve had in a really long time. Well cooked bacon and a funky pancake machine and the chef with the amazingly coloured green hair was all over everything. Honestly really pleased we stayed. Jacuzzi closed unfortunately but leisure area was nice literally the only thing I would say is that the carpets in the hallways could do with replacing but we loved our room and would 100% recommend.

The reception and communal areas are so inviting, and the choice of decor is superb well thought out and a substantial amount of money has been spent on this venue (I believe another venue similar up the road is spending money updating their facilities, leisure mainly as my friends were going to stay there and this when completed could have an impact on guests visiting when this is up and running) and food is tasty & well presented but, having used this hotel pre-covid there have been some changes since visiting then, some for the good and some not so good and some issues that seem to have appeared since in several areas, I was visiting and seeing people staying over there, these being, service at the bar on some of my visit was really poor I saw guests waiting 10 mins or more to be served due to staffing issues the bar staff had disappeared at one stage, a small group of guests at the bar were using inappropriate language, which could have been offensive to other guests and may have even offended bar staff serving them who didn't have the skills to be able to delicately defuse situations where you get boisterous guests staying, we all like to have fun surprised not to see management walking around on the previous evening management had been seen walking around talking to staff and guests etc, having visit numerous hotels in the UK, abroad, cruised and especially drawing upon some experience at Egyptian hotels where they offer a 5 star service I think the management could learn from what goes on elsewhere in the industry, it would be a shame to see this massive investment going to waste, the hotel is very popular but it could quickly loose its appeal especially when competition is opened up nearby, abroad the hotel side of management nuture and train their staff, I get the feeling this is a new crew and it lacks experienced front of house staff and experience bar staff to train the newly appointed staff, I must say Caine, Kris were two members of staff offer the service one expects and were such an asset to the hotel, on the leisure side was disappointed to see the jacuzzi was out of action, and did find that area at times was like a public pool area with staff inexperienced in management of guests on a pre-covid visit i'd seen staff having more control over their guests and no one jumping and unruly behaviour was soon directed into touch so other guests' experiences were not spoilt, I didn't recognise any of the staff and was disappointed not to see some of the regular pre-covid staff some had extremely extensive experience and been with the leisure side of the hotel for years. I did also see staff yawning so wonder if they are not getting the breaks due to staff shortages? Ending on a positive note the Christmas Tree was amazing and I'm sure all new guests will really enjoy this it just needs some pressies at the bottom ... ha ha. I have to say that if an incident happened at the hotel don't think the current staff in the leisure area or bar area would have a clue Kris would possibly manage, I have worked in catering and done bar and restaurant work myself as well as well travelled and health and safety is paramount.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your very detailed and extensive review which is most valued and we appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are very pleased that overall you had an enjoyable stay and will ensure all constructive comments are use to take the relevant learnings from. COVID-19 has indeed caused a major impact on the hospitality industry and as a result, unfortunately the company did see redundancies. When the hotel fully re-opened after the third lockdown, we have slowly started to rebuild the team back up, which on its own, in the current climate is a challenge for everyone. The team, albeit new, are working very hard to ensure our guests get the best possible service, and we value your patience and understanding at this time whilst they are given the relevant training. We very much look forward to going into 2022 with great success and hope to be afforded the pleasure of welcoming you back. Best Regards, Martin Carpenter Guest Relations
