Overlooking scenic coastlines, The Falmouth Hotel enjoys a prime location that guests appreciate for its proximity to local attractions and coastal paths. While the hotel's atmosphere is often described as comfortable with spacious rooms offering sea views, several guests have called out the need for a decor update.
The staff's friendliness and professionalism receive commendations, although there are mentions of service hiccups during peak times. Despite the cleanliness of the rooms, reviewers warn that the value proposition is diminished by dated furnishings, overpricing, and subpar food quality.

What a beauty! A very exciting makeover is well underway at The Falmouth, and from the attention to detail so far it is going to be nothing short of stunning!
The new bar has an elegant sophisticated ambience with a delicious cocktail menu to match.
Our dinner was really delicious with good sized portions and excellent service. Highly recommend the fish pie, loads of flavour and packed with fresh fish, we were also helped to select a white wine from the wine menu to pair. Great service.
The staff are attentive and welcoming, we felt we were in very good hands from start to finish and nothing was too much trouble.
The bedrooms are huge, spotless, high ceilings, solid walls and uninterrupted views of the sea. Our room had a comfy seating area, massive balcony as well as a huge bathroom with a corner spa bath.
The Falmouth is definitely one to watch. It's very impressive already so when the restoration is completed it will be quite something indeed!

Dear D0nna Turner, I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts following your recent stay with us. I’m delighted that our recent renovations were so well received, and you thought highly of our new elegant bar and the sophisticated ambience created by our team. We’re proud to restore the town’s eponymous hotel to its former glory, making every effort to maintain the impressive Victorian architecture and centuries of history. Great location with easy walking distance into town (12 mins) had sea view room but at the moment renovations are taking place and the front of the hotel has scaffolding 15 minute walk to Pendennis Castle, The rooms are very dated 1950s furniture but the bed was extremely comfortable and the rooms are large, the hotel menu has just changed and is very nice. The lounge bar area is also very comfortable could not fault breakfast,, full English as well as cereals, and yoghurts the staff are very good at this hotel very friendly and nothing is too much trouble, hotel also as a swimming pool and spa Cullum behind the bar is excellent again nothing too much trouble and extremely helpful when needed. I’m sure once this hotel is fully renovated. This will be the top hotel in Falmouth. Would definitely go back again.

My daughter and her husband held their wedding reception at the hotel and a number of family members had rooms for the weekend. The rooms were clean and spacious, everything worked… Some of the bathroom fixtures seem a little dated, however I believe the hotel is undergoing a period of rolling refurbishment and to be fair everything was spotlessly clean.
The food served at the sit down meal was excellent and the waiting staff were faultless and friendly. The head waiter/ master of ceremonies was professional to the last and you really were made to feel that nothing was too much trouble. Bar prices were reasonable for a hotel and again, the atmosphere of the bars was relaxed and the staff were very friendly.
Throughout the whole process from initial enquiry to picking up equipment etc the following day, the staff at the hotel couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly.
The hotel has a lovely old school, proper hotel feel to it and makes a really refreshing change from the popped out of a mould chain hotels most of us are used to.
The setting is stunning sitting as it does above castle beach with the wide vista of the bay looking from the Lizard to Pendennis castle.
A great place to relax and a fantastic and unique venue for an event, can’t recommend highly enough…

Dear Joff T, Many thanks for taking the time to share feedback. I’m so happy to hear how delighted you were with all the aspects of your hotel experience, and for such a great occasion too - congratulations to your daughter and son in law on their wedding. It was our pleasure to host their special day. It’s wonderful that you and your family found the rooms spotlessly clean and spacious. As you mentioned we have an ongoing refurbishment schedule which will see improvements to all areas of the hotel. I’m so pleased that you enjoyed an excellent meal and appreciated the faultless service provided by our team. The hotel is on the seafront, in the middle of a beautiful and well-kept garden, a 1-minute walk from the railway station. The city centre is a 15-minute walk away.
The hotel is in an imposing but old building needing urgent restoration. The deterioration is evident in the doors and windows. Certainly, it has been a luxurious hotel in the past, but it is very run-down and poorly maintained.
The room was spacious, with a splendid view of the sea. However, the furniture in the room is old, not antique, and needs restoration. The floor is carpeted, including part of the bathroom next to the bathtub.
The same was true of the large bar, with various sofas that looked like they had come from a second-hand furniture sale.
The cleaning service was a bit sloppy. On one occasion, even a packet of disinfectant detergent was left forgotten in the washbasin.
The same goes for the breakfast service, where the choice is limited, and there is little or no replenishment. During our four-day stay, sometimes there were cold cuts, sometimes not, and the same happened with the fruit salad.
In short, it's simply not worth the money. The price is exaggerated for the level of service and the quality of the interior space, both in the rooms and communal areas.

Dear Manuel_Porto, Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback, I am so sorry that the overall experience fell short on this occasion. I’m delighted you appreciated our wonderful location on Falmouth’s seafront and acknowledged our well-manicured garden. I’m sorry that several areas were lacking. We’re delighted to have taken over The Falmouth Hotel in May. Our aim is to breathe new life into this historic building, and we are enthusiastic to start a new chapter. We are aware that some general maintenance and attention to detail was allowed to slip prior to our arrival. Over time these will be addressed, and improvements made to enhance the guest experience and restore this beautiful Victorian building. Since your visit, our breakfast offering has been service has carefully reviewed and hot breakfasts are now fully plated to order direct from our kitchen. To include eggs benedict and smoked salmon to name but a few of our new additions. Thank you for choosing us, I hope you’ll consider a future stay, where I’m sure you’ll appreciate the work and improvements made. Kind Regards, Fi, Guest Relations Manager

Very sad to write this, my husband surprised me for my birthday, last weekend, he had emailed the hotel several times to say it was my birthday, however nothing was done not even a simple happy birthday.
We asked if we could check in at 1.30pm and was told by a young Indian lady that our room wasn’t ready, my husband said but how do you know you haven’t even asked our name! That was the start.
We checked in after a drink a little before 3pm and pretty much was chucked our key, no explanation about facilities etc.
We were on the second floor my husband had paid for a seaview, the view is to die for that’s for sure.
Next morning we were early to breakfast unusually there was no smell of breakfast we were met by a chap with a ponytail who said help yourself to breakfast we asked for poached eggs which were fine but the rest of the breakfast had clearly been sat there ages but we were there at 7am, even the fruit wasn’t sliced just in a bowl for everyone to touch. The coffee was in an urn the sort you get in an all day meeting, not pleasant.
We went out for the day to return to no housekeeping, so we still had dirty towels and no coffee or tea to replenish, my husband went to reception to be told that on check in he should’ve requested daily housekeeping, absolutely baffled who has ever heard of this and we weren’t asked on check in, housekeeping however were lovely and very apologetic when it wasn’t there fault.
We didn’t eat breakfast in the hotel the next 2 mornings as wanted tasty quality food.
On check out my husband was met by a receptionist who asked for our room number and said that’s all paid, not have you enjoyed your stay or anything.
We will definitely not return, the staff couldn’t care less here, everyone go somewhere else.

The Falmouth Hotel is in a fantastic position overlooking the sea.
Having paid, once at the hotel, to upgrade to a Superior Sea View room from a very tired Executive Sea View room we were very happy with the facilities and cleanliness of the room.
Sadly, the hotel is trading on its past as far as the dining experience is concerned.
Advertised as a fine dining and AA Rosette award restaurant we were expecting a very good standard of meals.
The quality of the two evening meals we ate ranged from adequate to poor with no wine list available. As a result of the disappointing meals we decided not to eat at the restaurant on our final evening and informed reception of this.
We would have expected to be refunded the £50 allowance for the meal not taken in the restaurant but despite emailing guest relations two weeks ago we have yet to receive more than an automated reply which merely states they will endeavour to reply to an email within 14 days. I have since resent our email explaining our grievances and hoping for a prompt reply. We are still waiting.

1. Reception staff sit behind their desk, behind a screen in the back part of Reception and shout at you as the guest on arrival. When I said I was hearing impaired, the Receptionist shouted louder. At no point did the Receptionist get off her chair and actually come to the Reception Desk to check me in, only to take my card payment. At one comedy point when she shouted that I had to give my card details for extras, I had to point out that she had to actually come to the desk to take my card, unless she wanted me to come into Reception, where she said she didn't know if I had heard her.
2. Bath in the bedrooms was unclean and unhygienic. Lovely to have a whirlpool/ spa bubble bath, but when we turned on the bubbles, ribbons of black gunk spat out of the bath jets.
3. Bedroom in desperate need of updating/ refurbishment. No power sockets at the bed for phone/ alarm clock and no power near the dressing table to do hair etc. Damp evident in the walls with bubbling paint flaking off.
4. Possibly the worst breakfast I have had at a hotel in years. After waiting for 40 minutes for a hot breakfast, the scrambled eggs were obviously microwaved to death in a ramekin in the kitchen, being a mix of yellow/ grey powder with burnt skin bits. The sausage was wrinkled (so reheated in a microwave after being cooked before), flavourless and obviously very cheap product. Orange Juice ran out and was not refilled, milk ran out by the cereal, poor coffee and no hot chocolate at breakfast "because the bar wasn't open yet". For £20 charge per person.
5. The only positive point is that the room was spacious and the bed very comfortable with clean linens.

Dear Toby B-T, Thank you for taking the time to share feedback, I am obviously concerned and disappointed that we failed to meet your satisfaction at the time. Regarding your arrival experience, I offer my sincere apologies for the situation you found yourself in. I will be taking this up with the team as this is wholly unacceptable. As new owners of The Falmouth since May, we have started renovations to restore this wonderful Victorian building back to its former glory. I’m sorry that your room was presented in this manner, I will review the room with our Housekeeping and Maintenance Managers and ensure corrective action is taken. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Our team of chefs prides themselves on offering quality and consistency, on this occasion it would appear this was lacking. I have shared your comments with our Head Chef and your feedback will help to improve the quality of the food service. If you would consider contacting me directly this would be appreciated, as I look to improve our service and guest experience and I would really appreciate your feedback – mystay@falmouthhotel.co.uk Kind Regards, Fi, Guest Relations Manager

Himself and I took advantage of an offer for this hotel, and as regular visitors to Falmouth thought it was a great deal. We paid for two nights (Saturday and Sunday) then added the third night after the deal had run out at an additional cost. We were looking forward to our first ever stay at the Falmouth Hotel (we normally stay elsewhere in Falmouth), but were disappointed, particularly as we have stayed in a Richardsons hotel elsewhere and never experienced a problem.
Our room was one of (if not the) smallest rooms in the hotel, and we were horrified at being charged £175 to stay in it for the extra night. The bed had a mattress that had probably seen better days, and the overall experience taking cost into account was certainly not even equal to a night in a premiere inn.
Although breakfast was included, the poor young man on shift all weekend on his own to do everything made it a challenge. People were complaining that basics were not available because supplies had not been topped up such as bread and butter, some of the hot food, coffee and cups etc., and all the time this chap is trying to do it all, including clearing and laying up tables. I even cleared some dishes for him myself!
We did enjoy the pool, which was clean, although we didn’t use the spa pool, and the facility was easy to access. We also enjoyed a delicious sandwich in the bar on arrival in a well appointed lounge area. The building itself is obviously old, but well maintained in most areas, and the gardens neatly kept. The driveway entrance however, is littered with pot holes and not adequately lit for pedestrians exiting for a walk to the town.
We booked Sunday dinner for 6.30 which was one of the few time slots available at a reasonable time, but were disappointed again, having been looking forward to a lovely three course meal, only to find there was no roast beef left, and as I am allergic to pork, the only option left to me was ‘nut’ roast. No offer to enquire with the chef what might be available, this particular member of staff was not helpful at all. I didn’t want to eat the proffered alternative of a burger, so with some disdain we left to walk to the town in search of a decent meal.
In summary, the experience was one we will not be repeating. and will be returning to a hotel we know has the best quality local produce always on offer, a bed so comfortable you sleep like a baby, rooms beautifully decorated and maintained, and staff who make you feel like you are their only focus.
Definitely unimpressed, and wouldn’t return.

We booked the hotel on a budget deal, which included breakfast and a mini cream tea (1 scone and jam for 2) or 2 free acholic drinks. We were placed in a medium sided room on the 4th floor. We still had good views over the Fal estuary and harbour, but if we had booked a sea view it would have been better. The hotel is at present doing a lot of renovations so there was scaffolding up and across our window, plus the car parking was restricted due to work transport etc. But we still had a good couple of days. Thankfully the weather was good on the only full day we were there.

Very disappointed with our stay at this hotel. Saturday breakfast was a disaster as the dining room was set out for a wedding. Hotel guests were shunted to a veranda with wobbly tables and food supplies were not refilled successfully. In a 5* hotel one would expect the table t be set with a plate and butter knife as well as knife fork and spoon. Butter knife and spoon had to be searched for along with coffee or tea. One would also expect eggs to be cooked to order, and room refreshments refilled daily - they weren't! We paid an enormous amount for this weekend and as much as we love the Falmouth Shanty Festival we would not stay at the Falmouth Hotel again..

Don’t waste your money, try and stay elsewhere. I believe hotel in administration so that could be why no money is being spent on the place. It truly was dreadful and certainly not worth anywhere near the £200 per night charge
Most hotels will offer a seaview room at an additional charge. I would contact the hotel direct they were very helpful on our stay there.
