A small friendly individual hotel serving bed breakfast and evening meals on request. We also have a small coffee shop which provides home made cakes, light lunches and bar snacks, Our views are overlooking Lusty Glaze Beach voted best beach in Britain
We spent two lovely nights here in the middle of Storm Callum. After a disastrous delayed train journey from London to Truro, we were warmly welcomed by our guest hosts Jane and James. Cornish pasties and ale fixed our moods! We have to go back to enjoy the balcony seating overlooking the sea! Great place to stay right above one of the fantastic beaches. Thanks to Jane and James and the rest of the staff.
A lovely hotel with fabulous views over Lusty Glaze Beach and beyond. The hosts Colin and Lizzie are a lovely warm and friendly couple and nothing was too much trouble. The room we had was spotless with a fabulous sea view.Tea and coffee facilities were a plenty with biscuits.Breakfast there was plenty choice of fruits yoghurts and cereals full English breakfast. You could have as much or as little as you wanted so even the hearty appetite would be full. All in all a fabulous 10 day stay. All the staff were very pleasant and very chatty and it made it feel home from home.We will definitely be coming back the next time we are Newquay so Colin you can't get rid of us that easily.Once again thanks for making our holiday so enjoyable.
So let's face it, almost every hotel and B&B in Newquay is going to be fairly similar except in price so you find yourself wanting to look for something more, perhaps something with a more personal touch. And it is here at the Kallacliff that you'll find it. Imagine yourselves being just a five minute walk out of town (so that means quiet), sheets pressed and ironed (how nice is that?), two wonderful hosts (four if you count the loveable Tony and Marion who are always chipper and always helping out the actual hosts, Lizzie and Colin), and less-crowded beaches just steps from the door. Throw in the fact that this place has a small but well-stocked bar, perfect for a nightcap or two and no worries about driving back if you happen to want that one extra toddy and the prices are right in line with any pub. As to the breakfast that comes with your stay, how about eggs and sausages fresh from a local farm; the full menu features quite a variety (you check off what you want the night before, from mushrooms, baked beans and tomatoes to the eggs and meats -- cold cereals and toast are always available) and all of it is topped off with some freshly ground coffee delivered in your own French press server...delicious! We stayed in Room #2, ground floor and an easy in & out and quiet. One night we were treated to a bevy of beautiful young ladies as Lizzie & Colin hosted a coming-out party for two beauties just turning 18 and our room was STILL quiet. But perhaps the nicest part of staying at this place turns out to be the evening conversations in the sitting room. Don't be shy, just saunter right in, order a glass of wine or a lager and join right in. True, there are some regulars there but before long you'll find yourself feeling unexpectedly comfortable with everyone and no longer feeling like a stranger. Might be because Lizzie and Colin will go out of their way to make you feel that way (when we were there they had donated a room to a bicyclist crossing the country and raising money for his cause, a tribute to his 8-year old daughter who recently died from a brain tumor; he was doing the journey on his daughter's tiny bike!). Step out of the hotel and just across the street is Lusty Glaze beach with its 500 steps (not really that many but it might feel that way to you when you climb back up them), with Porth beach just a five-minute walk to the right; both are far less crowded than the others closer to town. If the tide is out (and do check because the tides come back in faster than you think), you can skip the busy streets entirely and walk on the beach all the way down to the harbor. Those of you flying in, be ready for a free shuttle service as you're picked up and dropped off at the airport, an extra bonus. Bus stops are very close as well and you can easily take them for a carefree jaunt to St. Agnes or Padstow, Truro or the Eden project (schedules are posted on the stops but Lizzie & Colin can provide you with a bus schedule as well). And after your long, tiring day out, Saffron, their 85-pound Boxer mix, will welcome you back to the hotel with a severe tail wagging (if he really likes you he'll seek permission to jump on your lap). All in all, it's the small touches that add up to one big difference and in this case proves an example of what helps to separate the Kallacliff from the pack. This was our second or third time here, it's easy to lose track; but we'll be back so who's counting. If you're looking for a place to lose the hustle & bustle, to unwind at your own pace, to just wander about on the coastal trails (the path to Watergate Bay is a wonderful, less-used walk with spectacular views along the way and an easy bus ride back), and to share a few stories with some old-timers of the town, then this is the place (Dennis is one of the salty dogs that has enough stories to fill a book, although Lizzie, Colin and Sebastian have all traveled the world extensively so they can all talk about Singapore, Dubai and Portugal with ease and maybe even give you some ideas of where to go next). There are lots of choices of where to stay in Newquay and nearby Fistral and such...but we wanted somewhere a bit more personal and a bit more removed from it all, AND a place to wake up to views of the ocean, something you'll be treated to each and every time you look out the windows at breakfast. One more plus, Colin plays in a band so you may catch a performance or two. Final note: sites such as Booking.com and Hotels.com take a 20% bite of the price of each room so book directly if possible as you might get the same or even better rate.
Had a fabulous stay here for 10 days. Colin and Liz are superb hosts and nothing is too much trouble. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the general feel of the hotel is homely and happy. Will most definitely be back.
