A very traditional pub right opposite the train station.
Ryan the manager was very helpful throughout my stay, I was able to leave my bag as I arrived on the sleeper.

I am gluten/wheat and dairy intolerant, I was able to have a full English breakfast including bread and even a dairy free spread , perfect.

The rooms are basic but functional, I had a single which was fine, a bit tired but was a great price. There is also a separate sitting room area of you don’t want to sit in your room or the pub.

They also have a private cinema and show nightly movies, whilst I stayed I was able to watch a movie all by myself so was fab, it’s free.

I would definitely stay again is I were in the area

I stayed at the Longboat for four nights over the first weekend after lockdown restrictions were lifted. The food was spot on and staff offered excellent customer service (including full COVID precautions) at check in, breakfast and for evening meals. The pub offered hearty meals, a much welcome change after lockdown eating!

The hotel room was clean and tidy. Unfortunately I got unlucky with inconsiderate guests - staff were great at accommodating my request to move rooms and helping to source out where noise was coming from. Whilst this did put a bit of a dampener on my stay, staff did absolutely everything to help and this must not reflect on their excellent service throughout my stay.

Thank you for great food and service.

Room Tip: Book a double room as I’m not sure if staying in a single room had an impact on noise levels

My husband and I stayed here a couple of weeks ago. The in-house meals are very expensive compared to nearby eateries and pubs. To add to this, the hotel prioritised football fans over residents for a big match as we couldn't book dinner at a suitable time as all the tables were moved out for the fans to drink at (we had to eat early). The windows in our room have secondary double glazing that does not reduce the noise (which goes on most of the night) from the streets much and are difficult to open (we had to get help). Finally, the servicing of rooms system they use for 'covid' is lacking. No room cleaning or switching out of towels or any products that ran out in the room for the whole week. You had to ask for fresh towels and pile up used ones in a corner of the room. We've stayed here before but not again.

Stayed here a week for business and stayed in such a depressing room, very dated and smells like stangment water in bathroom and corridor.

Booked breakfast one morning and asked for same time each day after but could not accommodate as said was fully booked but when leaving for work at that time each day, not a soul in the restaurant for breakfast.

Booked 1 night for evening meal but very standard for price so ate in spoons up the road which was better quality and much cheaper and also macdonalds breakfast each morning as not able to fit us in as a staying paying guest all week.

Staff were pretty rude and definitely lacked customer service. The rooms were dated, dark and smelt musty with black mould on ceiling and felt like a bedsit.

Would never stay again or recommend.

Always like to support local businesses when travelling for work but very undeserving and such a shame and will be taken off our company's list of accommodation for future bookings.

If I travelled and paid for leisure, I would be completely gutted with parting with my own money for this stay as was quite expensive compared to others at £89 per night with no breakfast included.

Not sure how this business is going to survive unless they action.

Response from Longboat Pz, Owner at The Longboat Inn
Responded 23 Nov 2021
Hi Thank you for your review. We're really sorry that your stay at the Longboat was a bad one. I don't normally reply to reviews as it is the guests opinion, and, opinions vary depending on the guest. I don't want to make this a long reply, but I'm going to answer your points you have made on the review. "Booked breakfast one morning and asked for same time each day after but could not accommodate as said was fully booked but when leaving for work at that time each day, not a soul in the restaurant for breakfast." Reply - You booked a "room only", not including breakfast. You wanted to have breakfast at 8am every morning, but we were not able to accommodate you. We still operate a COVID structure for our breakfast bookings and have slots evey 30 minutes and accommodate a certain amount of tables in that time period. The breakfasts are cooked to order, so by operating this system, the guests do not have to wait very long, and feel comfortable. "Booked 1 night for evening meal but very standard for price so ate in spoons up the road which was better quality and much cheaper and also macdonalds breakfast each morning as not able to fit us in as a staying paying guest all week." Reply - I'm sorry that your meal was "standard". If you were not happy with your meal, then you could have approached us about it and discussed it. We would have gladly sorted this out for you. Glad that you had a better quality meal at "Spoons" Again, you were a "paying" guest, but you originally booked a "room only". Guests who had "breakast icluded" would have booked up the slots first hence why you couldnt have the same time every morning. "Staff were pretty rude and definitely lacked customer service. The rooms were dated, dark and smelt musty with black mould on ceiling and felt like a bedsit." Reply - Look at the majority of our reviews on all the sites and you will see that our customer service is excellent. We are running on lower staff levels, so yes, customers/ guests may have to wait a little longer unfortunately. again, why did you not bring this to our attention during your stay. The Longboat is a 250 year old building, so the rooms lend themselves to traditional "Inn" style rooms. we make sure the facilites in there are as comfortabnle as possible and that guests have what they need.. The beds, shower/ bath, Television, WIFI, tea/ coffee making facilites, central heating etc. The room itself has a main light and two bedside lights. With regards to the mould, thank you for letting us know in your review, I'm sorry this was there, I have now gone though with all our housekeeping staff and we have put a system in place to address the situation., No excuses here, it shpould have been dealt with. If you had noticed it and taken a picture and made us aware I would have someone in there right away to investigate it and then it could have been sorted out,. As it happens, we have had it checked, and unfortunately, the room above had a slightly cracked pipe under the floor which was dripping, this has now been sorted. By the way, I see from your picture you have taken of the rooms that you show a single bed, and not the room. The room you stayed in has a double bed and a single bed, so it is used as a double / twin if necessary. This is probably why you think it was like a bedsit. Lots of hotels have this set up in rooms. "Would never stay again or recommend." Reply - That's fine "Always like to support local businesses when travelling for work but very undeserving and such a shame and will be taken off our company's list of accommodation for future bookings." Reply - That's fine too "If I travelled and paid for leisure, I would be completely gutted with parting with my own money for this stay as was quite expensive compared to others at £89 per night with no breakfast included." Reply - If your company had come to us direct, we would could have given you a better price. Our prices are based on several local accommodation providers who are around us nd we sit in the middle where cost is concerned. "Not sure how this business is going to survive unless they action." Reply - Not your concern really as you won't be staying with us again. You may feel that a few of these replies are a little "cutting". They're not designed to be. If you had come to us on the first / second day of your stay with your concerns, we would have made sure that we had done everything in our power to make sure your stay was a good and positive one, however, you didn't give us the opportunity. This is why I dont usually reply to reviews, because the issues that arise during a guests stay are not bought to our attention and therefore, we can't remedy the situation. Certainly, if guests bring things to our attention, and we can't sort it, or they feel that we didnt do the best we can, then absolutely, rip into us. Unfortunately, the former is usually the case. We are not perfect, the Longboat is an old building, and, it is in constant need of work, but we do our best with what we have especially with everything that has gone on and is going on in these times, (and yes, it affects everyone in all walks of life). You will see that the majority of our reviews are excellent in all areas (bar/ food/ accommodation), and where they're not, we do our best to address the problems. Thank You

On visit to Penzance. First pub uphill from train station on right. Advertised as dog friendly and it was. Decent Beers on Tap and I had for lunch the sea bass and seasonal veg which was well cooked and tasty. The dogs were immediately provided with water. Place very covid compliant but choice of tables, inside and out. Printed Menu appeared limited and I should have downloaded their app for a larger variety at more reasonable prices. The service was good but the place at noon appeared to lack atmosphere. This is why I cannot give 5*

The negatives: There is no lift so be prepared to carry your own suitcase(s) up several flights of stairs if your room is at the top of the hotel. The rooms aren’t huge and the walls are paper thin. I had an amorous couple in the room next to mine. The performance went on until 1.20am and I could hear everything. There has been an attempt at double glazing, which doesn’t quite do the job. I was there for one night. I ran the shower for a good 10 minutes the next morning waiting for the hot water to come through, but it didn’t. I gave up and had a quick wash at the sink.

The positives: The location is excellent; two minutes’ walk from the train station and bus terminal and at the bottom of the main shopping street in Penzance. The staff are brilliant, but rushed off their feet poor souls because they cover the restaurant, bar and hotel reception. There is a kettle in the room and the staff will provide you with tea, coffee, milk. The food is good and reasonably priced, as are the drinks.

My normal reviews start with the positives then negatives this time as there are so many negatives I will start with positives. good breakfast and bed was comfortable . This is were the positives end
My wife booked this accommodation as a weekend break following an operation I had 2 weeks previous. My wife booked us a room either double or twin with harbor view,on arrival we found that we did not have the room we booked even though we had written conformation of this.We were put into a back room with no view and cupboard comes to mind . My wife went to the reception and complained , she was told by either Todd or Ryan as he gave myself and my wife different names . there was nothing he could or would do as he had not arranged the booking. We could not eat in that evening or the following evening even though we were resident , being told the restaurant was full even though there were tables for eating set up in the so called bar area. The bar/so called lounge area had no relaxing seating, all was set up with tables and chairs like a restaurant/cafe so we could not sit have a drink and relax. We had to go out to find somewhere. The breakfast was good but you had to book a time slot to eat so there was no flexibility in the morning as to how you felt. In our room the main light which was directly above the bed when switched off glowed a bright green all night making it hard to sleep also on occasions there was a noise like a motorbike , this would go on for up to 2 mins poss central heating or water. At our age we have traveled all over Europe and world wide also when working I preferred Hotel Inns but this is the worst I have ever encountered. I would not recommend the Longboat to anyone looking for a relaxing stay. Photos I have attached are of the green light in our room, sign going in stating no food and the terrible seating area in the bar/lounge

I had such a nice stay that I immediately re-booked, knowing I can see my family in a relaxed and safe manner. All the staff were so friendly and accommodating. Despite the pressures on buisnesses at the moment, nothing was too much trouble The breakfast was always a treat. The running of the hotel and bar is very covid safe and well organised. Within this they supported my seeing family and friends over breakfast, never rushing us and making sure we could socially distance. It was all really lovely and very relaxed.

Stopped by with family for lunch during COVID. Service was fantastic, however the food was very salty and greasy so probably won’t be going back. Their vegetarian options were especially disappointing but it was admitted they were working with a reduced menu due to the pandemic.
