Noisy room in a busy street opposite the back of Penzance train station. First impressions from outside not great, the room was clean and bed comfortable enough to get sleep when not disturbed by noisy traffic due to the main road. The door to room 3 slammed loud so we had to hold it until closed so we didn't disturb other guests, we also heard another door slam loudly. The sliding door to the washroom was not secure enough, it was hanging from a top rail and loose at the bottom so not very private as there is a large gap. The initial welcome could have been more friendly, we felt we were lectured on what we could not do as opposed to what was available to us, minimum effort. Service with a smile was lacking! On a positive, the breakfast was freshly cooked and served nicely (although my requested hard boil eggs were soft but I ate them to be polite). The breakfast area was pleasant, comfortable and clean. Overall, we felt the price we paid did not reflect the quality of the stay.

We stayed at Carnson House for 4 nights. It is a very convenient location, just the other side of the Train station and Bus station. Even better, it has an unheard of check-in time of 10 am, which meant that when we got in on the morning train from St. Austell, we could drop off our luggage in our room and get out what we need to hit the road right away to St. Michael's Mount and Mousehole. Our room, facing the street, was amazingly quiet given that it is a main street and located next to a pub. Breakfasts had a variety of cooked to order options with as little or as much as you would like. The garden out front was very interesting. Our hosts were genuinely concerned with our welfare as visitors and when our tour company (Meneage Tours) cancelled without properly informing us on our last full day, they called and found out what had happened, and then phoned around and found us an alternative means of completing our tour with the local taxi company, Penzance Taxis. They literally saved our day! We can never thank them enough and would happily stay there again if in Penzance.

I stayed here for two nights as a solo traveller and it was a perfect B and B experience and excellent value for money. The location is perfect for arriving by train as the place is right opposite the train station. You also have a nice looking pub next door and restaurants, takeaway and a supermarket within 5 minutes walk. The welcome was fantastic, as was the attention to detail with Covid hygiene - the owners were fastidious with their cleanliness, mask and sanitizer procedures. My room was absolutely spotless and was extremely fresh and well aired. The bedding was high quality and the pillows also excellent. Plenty of tea and coffee in the room and I was reminded to ask for more supplies if needed. The room was cosy and had a big tv, kettle and a sparkling clean shower and wc room. I was very impressed with the storage and the provision of a full sized ironing board and iron. Breakfast was beautifully cooked, generous portion of high quality and very tender bacon with the full Cornish breakfast. Really nice options to select from, including a vegetarian breakfast. The service was really friendly, I was greeted by name, and they are very attentive but leave you in peace as a guest. This is a lovely option if you’re on a budget and want access to trains, buses, Skybus transfer or the ferry. I would definitely return next time I’m in Cornwall.

This is a quaint and ideally located guesthouse just across from the train station. Breakfast is superb and our room was immaculate. It is easy to walk from here to anywhere in town including a local favorite fish and chips takeout in a remote part of town (ask the owner). St. Michael’s Mount is a walkable distance, but make sure you time your visit at low tide. Also make sure you try a Cornish pasty at one of its several bakeries.

We couldn’t stay in the room as it was too claustrophobic and noisy (pub below and main road). The toilet hadn’t been cleaned - just squirted cleaner round the rim and pubic hair on full display!
The window was rickety and old.
When we arrived at the property ( not a friendly welcome either) the first thing we were told that if the toilet got blocked we would be charged so do not put anything down there apart from toilet roll and obviously our waste. No disposable products or anything else. It put us on edge as it gave the impression that the plumbing was inadequate.
The place was indeed old and tired but it was also the unfriendliness of the owner and very poor standards. My daughter has anxiety issues and being right next door to a rowdy pub with heavy traffic and claustrophobic conditions we felt totally unsafe We walked in to a roar from the pub as there was football on and the room didn’t feel secure to me.
I always stay in a double room with my daughter when we go away and this is the only time I didn’t feel either safe or comfortable in my surroundings. I know it’s not the ritz but there are basic standards. We had the inconvenience and added cost to find somewhere adequate for our peace of mind.
The owner has no people skills and as I can see from other comments - no empathy!!!
Not suitably for family environment in my opinion.
When asked for a part refund she accused me of booking a double room by mistake! I never stay in a twin room!
Very poor customer service snd booking.com need to address this!

In 20 years we have never read such garbage. Our windows are only 2 years old and double glazed. We have to explain to guests about the toilet as it is a saniflow system (no different from other toilets) but you can not put baby wipes down them as they will get blocked and it costs £100 every time someone breaks it. The room was refurbished 12 months ago with a brand new ensuite and yes the toilet had been cleaned, If you thought it hadn't you should have come down to talk to one of us about it. You told me yourself you thought with it being a double there would have been 2 beds. If you want bigger rooms do not book a guest house book hotels and pay hotel prices. If you want to be near all local amenities, train station, bus station, ferry port, town centre, bars restaurant's and beaches in full holiday season there is going to be some noise. We are sorry people where out enjoying themselves watching the football (it is the start of the premier league). How can you not feel safe? My wife didn't reply to you in regards the refund so this is another lie

Felt the need to post a review after reading some of the previous comments. We stayed here for one night before travelling to the Isles of Scilly. We arrived by train and the location could not be more convenient for both the station and the ferry. The town centre is also easily accessible and coastal walks in either direction are on your doorstep. Our room wasn’t large but was spotlessly clean and had everything you need. Bed was comfy and shower hot. Tea and coffee making facilities provided. It is on a busy main road but we knew this before we booked and actually found it quieter than expected. It certainly didn’t affect our sleep. The pub next door was no problem either. The price was considerably cheaper than the Premier Inn down the road and included an excellent cooked breakfast. Some people must be extremely hard to please! We shall look forward to staying again.

In the centre of the town and literally next to the railway station, it's not necessarily somewhere you'd choose for beautiful views from the window, But as a simple B&B it's probably hard to beat.

The room had everything you would get in a hotel including iron and hair dryer. The bed was comfortable and the shower was fine. Everything was nice and clean and welcoming. The hosts were really helpful and this included providing a continental breakfast an hour earlier than their usual time because of my travel arrangements.
And the price was right.

My wife and I had used Carnson House Bed and Breakfast in past years but, for the two previous summers and for reasons unconnected with Carnson House, we had tried other B & B's in other resorts.
This summer, given the stresses of the pandemic, we decided to book a "staycation" and, again, chose Carnson House Bed and Breakfast given our awesomely superb past experiences there.

We did suffer some apprehension as to the “normality” we would find. Why go on an intended relaxing holiday to find yourself subjected to far too rigid hygiene precautions. Would Carnson House still be enjoyable ?

We needn’t have worried.

Carnson House Bed and Breakfast Hotel provides the necessary level of safety precautions without undue regimentation. The same friendly, relaxing atmosphere is still overwhelmingly evident. The bedrooms remain extremely comfortable and Rob's breakfasts the highlight of our stay at Carnson House Bed and Breakfast.
It's central position remains hugely convenient for both the rail and coach / bus stations.

No chain of impersonal, "robotic" hotels can surpass the stress-free, friendly ambience Rob and Belinda personally provide at their hotel. Guests are treated as friends.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at Carnson House Bed and Breakfast which provided us with a critically important rejuvenation holiday away from the sheer insanity of this year. My wife and I are so grateful to Rob and Belinda for providing us with a holiday unaffected by the surrounding distortions. God knows, we needed one.

Carnson House Bed and Breakfast is an oasis of relaxation.

Highly recommended.

Rob and Belinda's hotel remains the best in Penzance.

Thank you Rob and Belinda for your efforts.

( On a connected point we were apprehension that we would find Penzance to be a “ghost town” with vast numbers of empty, pandemic affected, shops.

It wasn’t.

Penzance continues to provide a bustling, vibrant shopping center - an essential element of any holiday. )

The lady "welcomed" us with a series of rules and warnings, no real information (such as where to park the car) and concluded by saying that she goes to bed at nine. The entrance is narrow and drab, the room was tiny we could barely get around the bed and it was extremely noisy. New bathroom but also very small. The lack of air would have been compensated for by an enormously loud fan. very simple breakfast and despite asking for a gluten-free one they served us a sausage that "they didn't know if it was gluten-free", literally two slices of gluten-free bread. 8 minutes after 10am there was a knock on our door to get us to leave. I would definitely not recommend it.

They are not rules, It is simply to tell you not to put things down the toilet, just a baby wipe can break it and it cost £100 to fix, so after too many £100 payouts we decided to tell people as they don't read the sign in the toilet that asks you not to put any thing in the toilet. We always advise people where to park. Yes i do say we go to bed at 21.00 as we do have to sleep (we are human) so we ask guests only to wake us in only in an emergency What's wrong with that.

My son stayed here recently and was so pleased with his stay that I felt I would write a review for him, he told me that although he arrived very late he was welcomed, and that he had a really good night's sleep in the comfortable room provided. He said the breakfast was excellent and had set him up for the day exploring West Penwith. A great place to stay and very clean and central to the town centre and transport links.
