Detailed Reviews
Booked for 2 nights on Booking.com, paid I think about £90 a night for en-suite room with breakfast which was the highlight as it was all in our fridge, fresh fruit, yoghurt, bread, eggs, butter, orange juice, jam, milk, etc, also cereal, tea and coffee on a table with cutlery and crockery. The host was a lovely friendly gentleman and there was street parking outside. Just around the corner was the sea front with pub restaurant about 5 minutes walk away and the centre about 15 minutes away. WiFi was of good speed with room clean and compact.

I spent three nights at Duporth Guest House this mid october in the affordable ensuite single room which had everything one could need for a great stay and I especially liked the in room breakfast (not only because of the pandemic). Yes, you actually do hear the fridge now and then which can be annoying if it happens during the night but the advantages of having a fridge in the room exceeds that occasional buzzing to my experience. Found on street parking right away every evening. The owner Steve lives there and also responds to emails quickly. Great room service with breakfast topping up every day. L. supermarket with its great fresh bakery corner about 300m. Penzance is the perfect location for exploring the most southwestern part of Cornwall and Duporth Guest House is situated in southwest Penzance so you have direct access to the farthest Southwest without driving through town traffic first. Highly recommended!

We only saw the owner the last morning to pay. I had received a message before we arrived, with the instructions and the number of our room. The keys of our room were left on the door and the main door was left open all the time. We don't particularly like this system, but I found this quite often around the UK and Scotland. Also, the owner was always reachable over the phone and everything we requested was done and provided.
Our room was big. Breakfast was self service in the room so they provided fresh fruits, milk, yoghurt, orange juice, eggs, bread, jam, butter, tea and coffee every morning. We had a microwave, cutlery, glasses, cups and plates.
The negative aspects for us were:
- smelly entrance. The carpet looked very old and, together with the smell did not give a good impression
- our room was big but too full of stuff. There were blankets and bed nets under the beds and all sorts of paintings, mirrors and bedside tables. It felt too full of things. There was no attention to details in terms of furniture. Mattresses were different in different beds and not great to sleep (however this may be just personal taste).
- too much light in our room as the light on the corridor was constantly on and there was a big window on top of the door so it was very bright in the room.
Overall, it is a good average solution if you have to stop in Penzance as it is basically on the promenade and only 10 minutes walking from the city centre.

We stayed as a group of 4 friends when walking the SW Coast Path and the location for that was perfect. We were welcomed by a really friendly guy, the quad room worked well and I thought the in-room breakfast seemed like a great idea.
Unfortunately both the single beds broke when they were sat on, although once we fixed the slats this wasn't an issue. One friend then sat on the single bed in the double room and that also broke (our friends are not unusually large so not sure what happened there!) The double bed was very comfortable though.
Breakfast was a great idea but unfortunately the milk was completely gone-off, the glass bottle had mould growing around it, so that was really disappointing and meant we were unable to enjoy the cereal, tea etc.
Overall it was fine but we probably wouldn't return, although I think we maybe just got a bit unlucky with our experience as the house itself and guy running it seemed great.

Stayed for one night while visiting Penzance. Lovely Guesthouse close to the sea. Very clean with bright decor. Contact free check-in and breakfast already in the room on arrival. A lot of thought has been put into providing a good service while social distancing. Breakfast was lovely with a toaster / egg boiler in the room with fresh bread, eggs, jam, butter, and marmalade provided. Also ground and instant coffee, tea, milk, fresh fruit, fresh yogurt, variety of cereals and orange juice. Would highly recommend.

We stayed for one night enroute to the Isles of Scilly. We stayed in the family room and my mother had a single room. In terms of the room I can only comment on the family room we stayed in. The accommodation was reasonably basic and fairly cramped (for example getting around the bed). However it was clean and the bed linen was good. It was fine for a one night stay and we were not in the room much anyway. The breakfast concept worked really well for us as we were leaving early to catch the Scillonian but I think if I had been staying longer I would have been disappointed by the lack of a cooked option.
My mother had also booked a room for the night of her return from the Isles of Scilly but when she arrived for the outbound stay and mentioned this to the owner he said that he had no record of the booking. He apologised briefly but that was that - no offer to help sort something out, just sorry I don't have the booking and I'm full. So my mother, a nervous and single traveller in her 70s was faced with needing to arrange a room at short notice in Penzance for her return stay. Luckily we were with her and eventually managed to secure her a room but if she had been on her own I'm not sure what she would have done - she doesn't travel with access to smart phones, laptops and Facebook late accommodation groups like we do! This caused a signficant amount of stress and whilst we would probably stay here again we would make sure we had confirmed the reservation a few weeks in advance and had written evidence of it!

The bed was nice and clean and the shower was really good. I spent very little time there as I was walking the SWCP.
I normally stay in Hotels where there is a bit going on and this Guesthouse has made me realise for a small amount more money a Hotel is a much better option for me.
I am unsure why on one evening on my return my room door was wide open and the lights and tv were all on ?!?!

This B and B is very clean and tidy, the room we had was great - this was our first experience of a room with the breakfast in a fridge for you to make yourself.
It was great and you could have your breakfast at your pace - the fruit was fresh and the choice of breakfast was great.
There was a microwave, toaster and egg boiler in the room.
I would highly recommended this B & B and I can’t thank the owner enough, as he was polite and helpful.
We will be returning to Penzance later this year and we will try to book this B & B.
So give this place a try.
Thanks from Andy & Ali Burroughs

+1
The Duporth is in a great position just a short walk into the centre of Penzance.
A lovely clean bright room with the bonus of a sea view. Good shower facilities and a(make your own breakfast system) everything provided a brilliant idea.
You have the freedom to have breakfast when you want it!. Bread eggs fresh fruit and yoghurt as well as cereals and preserves!and of course tea and coffee.
The sea front is about 10 yards away as is 'The Alexander Inn' a lovely friendly locals pub.
Penzance and Newly rugby club (Cornish Pirates) is about 20 yards away too, the reason for our visit.
Looking forward to a longer stay in early May!

Lovely welcome
Easy booking process
Superbly located for the beach and/or town
Lovely continental breakfast in a domestic size fridge which would also be great in the summer for cold soft drinks.
Toaster, kettle and microwave are great. As is the perfectly sized breakfast table with a beach view.
Minor, love/hate moment is no marmite!
Room very clean. hard floors do allow some noise transmission from other rooms.
All looks very neat, clean and tidy.
I'd definitely stay again.
