Since taking over Elmsdale Clare has fully redecorated the property and made alterations which further enhance this already elegant building. She is a splendid host and makes her guests feel totally at home. The rooms are impeccably clean and breakfast is first class. The availability of fresh milk to make tea and coffee in the rooms is a welcome bonus.

Penzance itself is well worth a look round. The town's parks are beautifully kept and feature a number of plants not seen in England other than in the extreme south-west. The charming village of Mousehole is only just down the road and within walking distance for younger visitors.

We booked three nights at Elmsdale last minute due to a holiday cancellation abroad.

We decided to take our dog with us and make the most of the location as it is perfect for coastal walks.

The guesthouse is immaculate, as was our room. Beautifully furnished and very welcoming. Parking was easy, close and free!

Prior to arrival we were sent over a list of all the great places to visit and restaurants to eat in which was really helpful having never visited Cornwall before.

Elmsdale is a 5 minute walk to the coast with local shops on the way. We walked to St Michael’s mount within 1 1/2 hours which was a beautiful walk along the coast with our dog.
The guesthouse is a perfect location for all the places you would want to visit including St Ives!

The breakfast that was served was delicious with a broad variety and cooked fresh, we could not have asked for anything more.
There was a dogs bed, blanket and dogs bowl in our room for our furry friend (we didn’t need it as we had taken our own however we thought this was a really sweet touch!)

Our room had great storage, water, kettle, tea coffee etc to make drinks and there were even cookies, scone and jam on arrival!

All precautions were taken to make this a very happy, welcoming and friendly stay whilst taking the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe post covid.

I would highly recommend Elmsdale to anyone wanting to visit Cornwall and have already told my friends / family that if they are going to Cornwall - this is the place to stay.

The Elmsdale Guest House is truly a special place. Great location on a quiet tree lined street with easy parking, and just a easy walk to the water, restaurants and shops of Penzance. Clare is warm and kind and easy to talk with, and she prepares to order breakfast using local and fresh ingredients that leave you feeling happy and ready for the day. The dining room is beautifully decorated with lush houseplants, local art and a perfect morning light.
Our room was also perfect! comfortable bed, delightful sitting area, quiet and peaceful, with our own cute bathroom. The room (and rest of the property) was super clean and fresh feeling, and Clare provides local tea, coffee, cold water in your room as needed, with a small fridge. She has books and maps to borrow, and is a wealth of information for local recommendations.
We were so comfortable and at home in Clare's guest house. If I am lucky enough to return to Penzance, I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights in September 2020 after walking the South West Coastal Path and it was wonderful to rest and relax in the tastefully furnished bedroom with everything we could need for a very comfortable stay.
Breakfast was served in the large dining room at the front of the property. This is a light and airy room. Tables were well spaced and everything was spotless. There was an excellent choice of breakfast fare and no surprise that everything was beautifully presented and delicious.
What makes Elmsdale Guest House stand out is the attention to detail. Beds are comfortable, towels are fluffy, everything is perfectly clean and the tea tray had all we could wish for and more besides. A lovely touch is the mini-fridge.
Highly recommended!

Our first trip to Penzance did not disappoint. Elmsdale and the lovely Clare were fantastic. The guest house is in a perfect location, close to the sea and a great base to visit all the local points of interests and walks. We stayed in the loft suite which is really spacious and quiet, like having your own mini apartment at the top of the house. Clare brought up amazing breakfasts every morning due to Covid restrictions in the dining area, so much choice and even a take out breakfast if you want an early start. The local restaurants nearby are of a really high standard and as fish lovers we were totally spoilt for choice. Loads to see and do, thoroughly recommend, thanks Clare for looking after us, look forward to visiting again!

Staying at Elmsdale Guest House was a wonderful start to my two-week solo trip through Cornwall. Facilities are modern and clean, breakfast was extraordinary with lots of options also for vegetarians and, best of all, Clare made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. Especially as a solo traveller I appreciated her taking the time for a little chat here and there. Upon arrival she prepared a delicious cream tea while I spent the afternoon chatting to her mum who gave me useful tips for excursions in the area. The "mousehole bunkbed" room I stayed in is tiny (and therefore the cheapest of the five rooms) but had everything I needed to get a good night´s sleep. The hostal is located in a quiet residential area with different bus stops in 3-15 minute walking distance. I can definitely recommend this place and will contact Clare again should I ever return to Penzance.

We really enjoyed our stay, the pre-arrival information and contact was very helpful. Lovely warm welcome when we arrived including a pot of fresh tea and scones with Cornish cream and jam. Parking was straight forward., the guest house is close to the beach and the town. The room was warm and clean ,and the bed and pillows very comfortable. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room with a range of teas local products and fresh water and milk in a mini fridge. The breakfasts are wonderful , excellent range, delicious and healthy and Clare is an amazing cook and host. The interior decorations are a delight. The en-suite we had was a tad small ,but not a problem and the toiletries high standard. We loved our stay and we’ll be back, excellent value and great experience

We had a lovely 4 nights' stay at Elmsdale Guest House. Parking was easy along the street and it's walking distance to the beach, as well as restaurants in the town. A good central location to be as we explored Cornwall. We loved the breakfast choices we had and how our host took the time to make each breakfast special. We even had a welcome tea of scones awaiting us upon check in!

We stayed 2 nights in this wonderful B&B during our holiday in Cornwall. Claire is a friendly and helpful host that made our stay a joy. When we arrived we were offered scones and tea prior to going to our room. The house is quite beautiful and our ensuite room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. There are only 4 guest rooms so the B&B has an intimate feel. The house is in a quiet street and we enjoyed great sleeps when compared to some other places we have stayed. The B&B is located a short 5-10 minute walk from the centre of Penzance and there are bus stops within 100metres of the front door.
Claire was very helpful in terms of offering advice for walks to do or places to eat. The highlight of our stay was probably Claire’s breakfasts;
they are amazing! Our stay was five out of five and I would highly recommend Elmsdale B&B to anyone staying in Penzance

Stayed here June 2021 - gorgeous room - crisp linen. Super ensuite bathroom with bath salts and bubble bath ! Very comfortable bed. Breakfast in the morning was fresh, delicious and filling (fresh fruit, croissant, and poached eggs on toast with bacon). Owners are delightful.

Sorry we cannot help. We never were in that particular room. The owners are so very helpful and I am sure they would answer your question very thoroughly.

Penzance is a good location to base yourself if wanting to tour West Cornwall. St Ives is just 6 miles away, the Minack Theatre about 8 miles and St Agnes about 20 miles away. Penzance has a main line railway station and is on the A30, the main road running down the spine of Cornwall. It is also at the centre of the local bus network. Penzance offers a fine range of places to eat. It is less expensive than St Ives and it has better communication links. Elmsdale Guest House is located in the Penzance Conservation Area in a fine, spacious 1880’s town house. We are about 700 metres from the Town Centre and 500 metres from the sea. We offer quality accommodation at affordable prices. There is free wifi in every room and every room has its own en-suite bathroom. We do not use booking agents so we can offer competitive room rates. You can book and pay online.
