Detailed Reviews
Stayed here only one night, a Friday. Didn’t arrive until 17:30 and stupidly had not pre-booked a restaurant for the evening. Reception were extremely helpful and gave great recommendations which resulted in a fantastic meal out on a Fri in Covid! Sanitiser everywhere and great signage. You are asked to strip your bed and put sheets into a plastic bag provided which we had no problems with as it lessens the exposure of staff. These are the kind of small things that help keep places safe and secure

We selected this hotel on the basis of its position offering a sea view and proximity to the promenade. The price factored that in.
We were also attracted by the description of the restaurant and the dinner menu then appearing on the website. Of course the dining room sea view isn't apparent on an autumn evening but it certainly was at breakfast. Sadly when my wife rang a couple of days beforehand to book Saturday night dinner she was told the dining room was currently closed in the evening. Fortunately she was sent a list of local restaurants and we were very happy with the Admiral Benbow.
Our room was spacious and there was a full size bath, something greatly appreciated by taller people. The lovely sea views were slightly spoiled by work being completed on the Promenade - the Tour de France may be starting from there in 2021?
Previous reviews have referred to better days and we'd confirm that. The stair carpet beside reception is fairly new but that by the lift betrays the passage of many feet. The well balanced sash windows glided up and down, but the very conspicuous frames were in need of restoration (a sea front position doesn't help for that).
We only had a light served breakfast of toast and marmalade so can't offer an opinion on a cooked meal.
This is marked 4 after making allowance for COVID. If the attention of the reception team in providing the restaurants list in advance hadn't happened it would certainly have been a 3. Sorry to see the evening restaurant information has now had to be removed. It had certainly sold the whole hotel for us.

Overall the hotel provides a good service - reception staff were very helpful and breakfast was well organised bearing in mind the CV19 issues. The rooms are a little dated but typical of this type of hotel - we had (No 83) - some fantastic views across the bay. Onsite parking is very helpful along with an onsite bar. Bearing in mind location, breakfast and parking, the price is acceptable in the current situation with limited availability in the area. Would stay again if in the area.

An early Spring break.
From the moment we walked in we felt welcomed and comfortable. Taking our dog was no problem and we were not charged extra for him.
Well worth the extra few pounds to have a sea view, what an amazing double room, so big. Crisp white laundered sheets and large bathroom too. Really thick fluffy towels a huge bonus.
Naturally dogs aren't allowed in the dining room so we ate an excellent dinner in the conservatory.
At breakfast the conservatory was full, this again was no trouble and we were offered a choice of two other rooms which was quickly laid up for us.
Breakfast was buffet style, a vast selection of cereals, fruit juice, tea, coffee and the usual hot selection. The restaurant staff could not have been more helpful.
All in all it was a really relaxing stay, comfortable, friendly, with views across Mounts Bay to die for.
We would not hesitate to recommend, particularly if you're four-pawed friend travels too.
Just one thing - if the staff wore name badges we could name them!
Well done.
We will certainly be back.

We stayed for two nights with a dog. Hotel has its own car park round the back. Our room was quite a walk from reception, up two levels, which was an inconvenience when the dog needed to go out for the loo at night. But there was a nice little park around the corner.
The view from the room was spectacular. Beautiful sea view.
On the negative side, the room was quite outdated. Even with an old fashioned style to the room it could do with an update.
It was very very hot at night, the windows barely opened and there was no fan.
When we got back to our room on the second day it hadn't been cleaned. When I asked at the reception they said it was due to covid (I guess lack of staff) and rooms would only be cleaned every 3 days if you stayed that long. However they did apologise and provide clean towels on request.
If you wanted a cold shower then you could have one, but as soon as you turned it to hot there was no pressure at all, it was just a trickle.
The cooked breakfast was swimming in oil. I asked the waitress if it was freshly prepared and she said it was batch prepared in the morning and then plated up from trays.
Hotel was in a good location on the main road but I wouldn't stay here again due to the negatives mentioned.

Dear BethFenney, Thank you for leaving your feedback regarding your recent stay here in Penzance. We're please you enjoyed the sea view from your room and will pass on your feedback to our management team. There's not a lot we can do about the weather but there are a limited number of fans that can be requested from reception for those hot nights and the three-day cleaning due to Covid is to reduce contact unnecessary contact between staff and guests for everyone's safety. This should have been explained to you upon check-in. Thanks once again and we'd love to welcome you back again soon. Best wishes, The Queens Hotel Penzance

We stayed here for two nights from the 23 Sept 2022 at a total cost of approx £440 including breakfast. Firstly the staff members that we met were very polite, helpful and courteous. Unfortunately for what we paid, our twin room (number 31) was unacceptable. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls in the bedroom and bathroom, the telephone in the bedroom wasn’t even connected and the room should not have been on the market. The shower was so weak that it was pretty useless. The breakfast was very good with freshly prepared fruit salad, good quality sausage and hand cooked poached eggs (no moulds used). The service was efficient and quick and the portion sizes good. Unfortunately we would not stay again based on the standard and cost of this room.

The Queen's Hotel in Penzance is our regular rendevouz to meet up with friends for lunch. The hotel has an air of Victorian grandeur and that favourite Aunt who shuns fashionable fads. Looking out over Mount's Bay and the promenade, the view on a sunny day is unrivalled and sitting and chatting over a coffee with the sun dancing on the water is one of life's great pleasures. The food is always good, and I hightly recommed the fish of the day which has inevitably been caught in Newlyn which is just down the road from the hotel. The staff are friendly and accommodating and whilst my wife and I have never stayed overnight, our local friends testify to the tasteful decor and comfort of the public rooms and bedrooms with their magnificent views. Well done the Queens - keep up the good work.

A free upgrade to a double room was great. The room was cosy but plenty of space. Well decorated, toasty warm on arrival, very comfy bed, nice furniture and an immaculate shower room.
The rest of the hotel is very pleasant, lovely grand staircase, nice conservatory and restaurant. Plenty of parking.
The staff are exceptional. Requests quickly and happily met. The food was excellent. The location on the promenade is great while the town centre is nearby without being too close in terms of noise and traffic.
Best of all, no extra charges for dogs and they can join you for breakfast in the conservatory!
I would love to have stayed longer.

What a HUGE disappointment. For the cost (£200+/night) we expected so much more. Where do I start?
We managed to get the last place in the carpark, not good for the two or three cars that followed us in when the hotel advertises on site parking!
A large bedroom with a good view (which we paid for) but marks on the walls, chipped and dirty window sills, curtains not closing and in fact coming off the track, holes where the curtain tie-backs would have been, and no shower gel or shampoo.
The hotel itself wasn’t much better, looking very tired with threadbare carpets and in good need of redecoration.
The restaurant was closed to evening meals (which we weren’t told about on booking) but in hindsight we wouldn’t have eaten here in light of our experience in the mornings with dirty windowsills and carpets (when mentioned, the receptionist said “yes we know”!) and a lack of social distancing on the part of the waitresses despite signs everywhere.
In summary, a big disappointment on so many fronts – this hotel in no way matches the photos on the website. Never again!

This seafront hotel has seen better days. In spite of some rooms having upgraded ensuite shower rooms, the general air is of a shabby, tired, loosely managed and dated hotel. The man on Reception was welcoming, helpful, charming, and accommodating. Other staff members were lack-lustre, hapless and overly casual. The restaurant service was poor. An unhooked curtain hangs limply in the restaurant. We were given a dirty cot. Staff could not assemble the replacement cot. The location is convenient for travellers catching the Scillonian to the Isles of Scilly but the Nightporter , who is expected to provide the early (prebooked ) breakfasts was completely overwhelmed. The restaurant advertises vegan and gluten-free options but these are very limited. Service in the restaurant was poor. It has the feel of an unsophisticated English hotel in the 50/60s.

No it’s very relaxed!
Hi Bankslover,
We’re a short walk (5-10 minutes down the road) from Penzance town centre and the Tourist Information office is at the other side of town (another 5-10 minutes) beside the bus and train stations.
Literally right outside the hotel is Penzance Promenade, which if you follow in an Easterly direction takes you on the coastal path over to Marazion (and St Michael’s Mount) and to the West are the beautiful fishing villages of Newlyn and Mousehole. We recently put up a post on our blog about coastal walks near the hotel so this may be of interest.
I hope this helps and if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
The car park is really small and the ferry is about 15 walk.
No idea. I went to Marazion on the Sunday.
