Detailed Reviews
Great campsite with lots of space between tents which is great due to the current COVID-19 climate. The toilet/shower block was basic but all functioning and showers hot. There were taps scattered about and lots of hand sanitiser dotted about the site, great to see. Easy check in, with a doorbell a few metres from the owners' home which when rang, owners come and check you in and go over the campsite rules.
A short 5 minute walk down the hill takes you to the beach, which was quiet with beautiful views.
Only negatives I would have to note is that I didn't notice any extra cleaning due to COVID-19 (Which they stated on their website they would undertake), only saw the toilet/shower block getting cleaned once a day, which in my opinion isn't good enough with COVID-19 still at large.
Not many other campers were following the rules either, not wearing masks and up to 5 people in the toilets which is states in the rules, there should only be 3. There should be better campsite staff presence to enforce the rules to keep people safe.

We booked at the last minute. I was concerned about the possibility of being late, after reading the ts and cs. Clare emailed back swiftly, reassuring me not to worry if we were a little late.
We checked in and found a lovely corner pitch at the top of the field.
There was a lovely feel to the site, lots of groups, clearly enjoying being together. As a bank holiday weekend, at a campsite that allows groups, it was noisy until late. This is an observation, not a problem. It was relaxing to hear people laughing together.
It is basic, it advertises it is basic, it charges a basic price. For us it was perfect and we are looking forward to our next visit.

+1
A little confused on arrival, but the map helped in the shower block field. Located the checking in area at the farm house. We were non electric hookup tent.
Great campsite, despite being on a slope, and a little exposed we arrived in the rain, used the hedge in the shower block field as bit of a shelter. Shower block pretty clean, great electric showers and toilets weren't bad. I think the from my partners point of view , a little bit of a let down, the men's block had only 2 showers and 2 toilets, one urinal and 4 sinks. There were 6 showers, 6 toilets and 6 sinks in the women's, one of the loos had it's own sink, handy if you need a bit of extra privacy.
Handy location for the beach, which is a great beach, especially for surfers. A little choppy for swimming. Praa is great location for Cornwall, half hour to Falmouth, half hour to st Ives. 15 Penzance. You can walk the 5 miles to marazion/st Michaels mount or portleven.
We went outside of school holidays, as I imagine this will be a busy campsite during this time.
The WiFi was good.
Beware of the cheeky cat.
All in all a lovely site, we enjoyed our stay very much.

Really enjoyed our 3 night stay here. The campsite is basic but has everything you need and was very clean and hand sanitizer has been fitted at various points around the communal areas. There was also plenty of space between the tents.
Praa sands is a 10 minute walk and is a lovely beach.
The campsite is also a great location to reach St Ives, Lands End, Penzance and Kynance Cove/Lizard Point.
Only downside was we didn’t book for longer. Can’t wait to come back.

We have been visiting this family run campsite since my children were small and it has been such a pleasure to be able to take my grandchildren along to let them experience the same childhood fun that their parents did without need for a screen.
This year was as wonderful as other
years and we all enjoyed getting back to basics, playing until dusk and enjoying family time around the firepit as we watched the sun go down and the sky light up with an amazon backdrop for the red moon.
We had 6 kids with us of various ages who all enjoyed their trips to the shower block and to do the washing up.
The site offers either electric hook ups or like ours a back to basic pitch. There are plenty of showers available with good water pressure and we did not have to queue when we were there. The washing up room also has a washing machine and tumble dryer to use. The facilities are regularly cleaned and sanitised throughout the day and evening.
Clare, lynette and the gang are always on hand to help with quiries and
a big shout out for all those finishing touches.
There was also a food wagon on site serving hot food and we were even treated to a special sea shanty performance which magically echoed across the valley.
I would highly recommend Higher Pentreath campsite to anyone wanting get away from it all and obviously not forgetting the gorgeous sandy lifeguards beach a few minutes walk away.

This is a lovely campsite with a fantastic view. With the view you do get a sloping pitch but it was perfectly fine for us. There are flat pitches with less view if this is your priority.
Campfires are allowed if fires are off the ground and the ground underneath is protected with breeze blocks.
Shower blocks were very clean and well maintained, my daughters loved the female empowerment quotes on the back of each door. There were always enough (female) toilets and showers even at busy times. They even had two hairdryers, although only one was working.
One request to the owners/managers please put more hooks on the doors for showers it would be very helpful.
The men in the family complained that there weren’t enough facilities for the men and had to wait consistently for toilets. My boys complained about the mental health posters in the mens which asked them if they were feeling suicidal to ring a certain number. My boys said it was quite depressing going to the toilet.
There are adequate washing up facilities, which are also well maintained, a washing machine and a dryer which is a brilliant addition to any campsite. A freezer to freeze ice blocks.
The people who run the campsite are friendly and helpful. When I reported the freezer was unplugged and the ice blocks couldn’t therefore freeze, two people sorted the problem within five minutes.
Wi-fi was good.
On site there was a local Cornish band that came on the Friday night in the lower field and a crepe van turned up as well.
The campsite is a 6-10 minute walk along a road with no pavements (watch out for cars), it is down a steep hill so be aware it is uphill on the walk back! The beach has two or three car parks all privately run with varying degrees of payments.
There are toilets, a shop and a great place to hire any beach equipment, surfboards, kayaks, etc. Can highly recommend this place which also does surf lessons. John who runs this place is a natural teacher all four children (who are all varying in ability) had a surf lesson and loved it. We also hired kayaks to explore the coves and the next beach. John even gave the children a short kayaking lesson before they went out and told them the different types of jellyfish you could see. The place is called Boat shed activity centre and Stone Reef.
I would highly recommend this campsite and would definitely use it again!

What a beautiful campsite, I've never seen anywhere with such amazing views. The staff onsite are so lovely and welcoming, especially the gentlemen who keeps the toilet blocks stocked and clean. Everybody is nicely spaced out, the owner mentioned that they were at reduced capacity to keep covid safe, it's nice to know its not all about money squeezing everyone in, unlike other campsites we stayed with this summer. I can't believe the value, we stayed at a "pop up" site the week before with nothing but a portaloo and paid £5 more than these guys charged us. 5 minute walk to the beach, central to visit all local attractions, hot showers, pot washing facilities and washing machines, can't go wrong! This campsite really reminded me of camping as a child, a true hidden gem and I reccomend it to anyone. Thank you for the best week and credit to your staff and campsite.

I found this campsite on google and after viewing the website and the gallery decided to book it for a nights stay. The website advertised it as a family run campsite with facilities, free wifi and a well kept place.
When arriving, this was far from the truth. The campsite itself looked fairly ok from the outside, it’s in a farm area with a tractor and barn on the property There were some quirky Cornish signs, showing that some care has gone into the presentation, but the caravans pitched up seemed to be residential and quite old (didn’t look like they had moved recently).
When arriving, there was no clear area to park up, so we pulled up next to the building and went to check in at reception. Reception seemed to be closed, although there were no signs saying this, and then after looking around briefly we saw a sign saying to check in at the bungalow.
Whilst waiting at the bungalow gate, after pressing the doorbell several times, we were greeted with a more that rude and unwelcoming member or staff (or family?). We were told that we were early, asked why we were here and then I had to ask where we were allowed to pitch up. There was no check of my name or details, no ask about covid or whether I was clear and I just got the general uncomfortable feeling that we weren’t wanted on the site.
As it was a free for all, we drove through the first field, past the caravans and facilities (out building) and up the first camping field/hill. On to the next camping field/hill.
The site itself wasn’t awful, but the ground was quite sloped.
We didn’t end up staying as I actually felt quite unwelcome and unsafe due to the apparent lack of care from the staff member

Response from Clare Coffey, Owner at Higher Pentreath Campsite
Responded 14 Jul 2021
Thank you for your review, we like to see where we can do better and where need to improve, however i would just like to put a few of your points right, we certainly do not have any residential caravans on site and its not for me to judge how people keep their caravan, I like to think i am not that judgemental. You are, however completely correct regarding our reception, it is currently closed and has been since covid hit, which you would have known if you read our t's and c's, website, facebook page or our arrival information, that we send out automatically to anyone that books. We wanted to offer a completely contactless check in, which we have managed. But again as you clearly didn't read any of our information in all the places i mentioned above, you also wouldn't have known our check in times and that it sounded like you were early. (of course i dont know if you were because i dont even know if this is someone that booked with us as no name has been left and no one has attempted to talk to us/email or otherwise about the 'issues' you feel that we had). You also wouldn't know, due to clearly not reading any information about our site regarding covid, that we have reduced capacity, therefore will not allow our usual capacity on site and so your 'ghost town' is possibly a result of actually just being safe. Which i will not apologise for. What i will say, is that i am very sorry if you thought you didnt recieve a friendly welcome, because usually we talk the hind legs off a donkey, i can only think that maybe due to being early and not me or mum being there, you must of spoken to my uncle, who is extremely shy and doesn't usually deal with check ins. So for this is am sorry. I would maybe suggest though that before going to anymore businesses and writing a possibly damning review that you read all the information (especially covid related) before you arrive and decide beforehand if that is the type of place you want to stay. Thanks.

Covid has clearly affected the tourist trade, so it was excellent to find this site open. We arrived at 14:00 and there was some confusion over payment. We had paid prior to arriving, but we're then directed to the lower field where the electric hook ups are. It was unclear where the pitches begun and ended, so we made an educated guess of where the middle was, in relation to the neighbouring tent. We initially had a call asking if we had arrived, then a call to say our driveway awning was actually a tent and we were breaching the terms and conditions as it was too big. We have an Olpro California drive away awning. When we got back on site, there was no issue with the neighbours who were happy where we had pitched, so all good. Owners still not happy, but if you don't show people where to pitch and advertise a "relaxed way of camping" what do you expect? The owners attitude was poor and tainted the start to our holiday. Facilities are basic, pitches predominantly sloped, entrance drive badly in need of repair and pitches situated under trees. There are two positives, the view is stunning and you can hear the sea at night. Apart from that, disappointing. Feedback is a gift, so if the owners read any of these comments, please remember that holidays are about the little things, like feeling welcome and that your custom is welcomed, not that you are an inconvenience.

Response from Clare Coffey, Owner at Higher Pentreath Campsite
Responded 22 Sept 2020
Thank you for your review, it helps us to see where we do things well and where we can make improvements. I am so sorry there was some confusion over payments, we will and have got better with this, but i will admit it was a whole new software system for us that we were dealing with and didn't have much training on it before going into lockdown so this summer we had to hit the ground running with it, its certainly something we will ensure we do better next year. Our electric pitches are marked out by pitch numbers but another little project for the winter is to ensure they are marked out better, I do apologise for this. Our lane is quite bumpy this is correct, its a farm lane and one that we have never wanted to completely tarmac it as we dont want vehicles to go remotely faster going in and out the lane, for safety reasons. We will though look into where possible making it smoother but we have plenty of vehicles coming in and going out having no issues at all. I would like to address the awning/tent issue though, as i am sorry to say your neighbours did come and complain but just wasnt happy to say it to your face due to then being next to you for several days after. This is why we addressed the issues with you. Also our electric pitches clearly states in our ts and cs that they were 6m x6m which your unit in total did breach, but we were happy for you to stay. Some of our pitches are under trees and actually we planted more to try and help with the big climate fightback. We love our trees and its certainly not something we will alter, although we always ensure they are safe regarding falling branches etc. Thank you for your feedback and we have taken it onboard.
