Nestled in St Ives, the Pedn Olva hotel boasts breathtaking sea views from its rooms, though guests have called out the rooms' smaller dimensions. The hotel's array of amenities, cozy atmosphere, and sumptuous food are widely acclaimed, despite the lack of a pool. Its prime location is a stone's throw away from the beach and town conveniences, making it popular among travelers.
Service at Pedn Olva is top-notch, with staff commended for their friendliness and professionalism. However, opinions on value vary, with some guests mentioning overpriced offerings, while cleanliness generally receives high marks.

Detailed Reviews
Room (£240) with balcony small but comfortable and no room cleaning during Covid which is fine. Gueats are told to 'Just ask for any room amenities required'. We asked for 6 teabags for two days which was met with a exclamation of 'six!'Restaurant good for brekky and dinner on reduced menu choices at the moment - we remembered excellent choice last year. Tables cleaned regularly but young waitress at brekky with fingers around the rim of the teacup is worrying at the best of times let alone now. Better training required here. Also reception staff should know about the area to help guests if this is to get top rating as opposed to ' I really can't help you'. Communication with the hotel honestly dreadful. E-mail requesting extra nights never answered and phoning is impossible with no answering and voice mail usually unavailable.
These are finnickity comments but they make the difference between a good hotel and an excellent one and make the guest feel more-wanted.

+1
We stayed for four days in a room on the cliff edge with a fantastic view straight out to sea . The two day winter package includes dinner on one night as well as bed and breakfast , which we doubled up. The hotel interior has a fairly modern look . The food was excellent as were the friendly staff. Road access is tricky if you have a large car , and parking is in the station car park at the higher level which is more accessible by road , where the hotel has several reserved spaces. The hotel is almost at sea level so it is an easy walk into town and to the harbour.

I took my daughter for a quick get away to have some time together to catch up after a hectic term.
I have loved this hotel for a long time and wanted to share it with her.
Our room window opened almost onto the beach much to my daughter’s delight so we were guaranteed a seaside view without even leaving our room.
We had a family room which we named ‘the cubby hole’ because it was right at the bottom, tucked away which suited us really well. The only problem was a periodic low humming noise that actually seemed to vibrate through the walls. I think it was the pipe that ran outside. This wasn’t gentle humming, it woke me up through the night, over the noise of the waves.
The staff are amazing; very helpful, friendly and kind.
My double bed was the best bit, superbly comfortable! Usually I come home and am glad to get home to me bed, this time I miss the hotel bed!
My only gripe was the bread, frozen sliced bread with freezer burn, which came out for breakfast as toast and later when I was going to buy a sandwich. Since a ham sandwich is £9 I refused; I don’t pay that much for a sandwich with freezer burn. The member of staff was very apologetic but really the brewery should sort that out and provide fresh bread for such expensive sandwiches.

We were a family of 4 and booked two double rooms for 8 nights. Starting on a positive, we booked room 35, which we were advised was the best and had the most wonderful views. However, the rooms were not serviced due to Covid, which was fine but we had to made repeat requests for basic necessities over and over again and wait hours to have them sent up to our room, made to feel like we were an inconvenience, rather than guests. After a few days, we mainly emptied the bins ourselves rather than continuously requesting this. The breakfast menu was limited and we usually waited 15 minutes before we were even acknowledged in the restaurant, which wasn't busy, until the member of staff assigned to our table became available, even to bring water, which we requested every day. The attitude of some staff was patronising and hostile. It was obvious that there was a certain amount of stress due to the pandemic and we tried to be understanding of this but service with a smile just didn't exist. We paid a premium price for 8 nights during peak season, despite the reduced service!
It is advisable to book parking in advance as it is really limited, which we didn't, our fault, so had to park quite a way from the hotel for 5 nights. Would also advise to book restaurants in St Ives in advance for evenings as they were very busy, which thankfully we did. Overall, we had a disappointing experience at Pedn Olva.

We paid over £1200 for a five night stay and overall, I was disappointed with the hotel. The location is great and we had wonderful views of seal island and the sea. The bed was very comfortable. It was great to have parking close by. However, that cost an extra £10 per night.
The room was very basic for the price. We had a small kettle and a few sachets of tea and coffee but no water, biscuits or coffee machine, which I would expect in a room of this price. We were overlooked by the balconies of two other rooms which meant we had to keep the curtains drawn on that side of the room. It took ages for the water to heat in the shower and the room could do with a coat of paint, as could the dining room.
Service at breakfast was okay. On the first morning I ordered scrambled egg and smoked salmon and was served the smallest portion of egg I have ever seen! Some of the staff were rather surly. Holly was the best of the staff as she was more friendly and attentive.
I wouldn't stay in this hotel again.

We LOVE the Pedn Olva! We always visit when in St Ives. On this occasion we only had a cream tea and a few pints of Rattler but we have eaten here many times and the food is excellent. The staff were really friendly and cheerful and the service was wonderful. They had a very clear one way system, lots of sanitizing stations and were very reacting to cleaning the tables. Everything was incredibly organized and we had a lovely time. The cream tea was excellent as usual and a very big thank you to guy on reception in the navy shirt and the young guy Harvey who looked after us. He was a credit to the pub. Looking forward to returning in January

The Pedn Olva is in a very good location, right next to Porthminster Beach, very close to the train station, and a short walk from the centre of St Ives. We had a great room, looking out towards the harbour and out to sea. It was a nice big room with a big wardrobe, plenty of drawer space, a desk and a couple of armchairs. It was nicely decorated and in a good state of repair. There was a minor issue in that the hot water took some time to appear when the shower is first used, but once we'd got used to it we weren't bothered by this. All the staff were helpful and friendly.
We didn't eat here but it's worth noting that the restaurant gets very popular because of the location close to the beach and there was quite a long queue at lunchtime, so if you do want to eat here then it might be advisable to book to avoid having to wait.
There is a roof-top terrace where you can get drinks. This is open to non-residents and gets busy so if you are staying at the hotel and you can't get a seat on the terrace, just mention it to one of the staff at reception and they will find you a seat in the residents-only section at the side of the hotel looking out over the beach. Also, if you are staying here and there is a queue to get in, don't join the queue just go straight to the desk and they will let you in.
The Pedn Olva is not a luxury hotel but it's clean, the staff are helpful, and the location is great. We had a very good couple of days here.

A wonderful location. We love having a balcony room, leaving the patio door open and listening to the waves crashing on the rocks below whilst we lie in bed. The balcony rooms are not big and the bathrooms small, but you book these rooms for the superb location and views, and it's totally worth it. We try to return every year/every other year. The restaurant is good, with fantastic views out over the sea. A lovely hotel in a fab location.

We stayed 2 nights late last week and would highly recommend the hotel, superb views, professional customer focussed staff, clean, great food, and a good selection of drink. When booking we were aware of a room change but booked all the same. Both rooms were sea views and the second night spent in the suite in which we enjoyed warms baths overlooking St Ives and the sea. The room change went smoothly and staff ready to move our belonging for us to the new room. We ate both nights in the hotel and enjoyed good food and drink and looked after by the friendly waiting staff.
We will be visiting again and highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed for five days this time as we normally only stay weekends but we are glad to say the accommodation, food and staff were consistent and brilliant throughout. The kitchen was closed on our arrival due to technical difficulties, Sue who was very helpful with our booking, apologised and assured us we would be taken care of which we were. We were directed to their sister establishment, The Lifeboat for breakfast and evening meal. The food and staff there were just as good and professional. Our room with a sea view was beautiful, clean with amazing views and sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks below, so soothing for a good nights sleep. The kitchen opened after our first night to provide us with some great food, especially the fresh mussels and fish of the day. A big thank you to all the staff here, as they are all so professional, helpful, polite and friendly, we would especially like to thank Sue, Holly, Nathan, Hannah and Karen for all their help, advise and friendly conversations. We have already booked our next stay in May and can't wait to get back. Defiantly worth a stay here you won't be disappointed.

We stayed in room 23 which was a family room. It was a good size but did not have a balcony. I think those with balcony’s are more expensive than the standard room. Best you speak to the hotel and clarify your requirements. Whatever room you get this is a good hotel with access to a lovely beach and the view is spectacular.
My answer is the same as Sue T above. No fridge, but lovely views and great staff.
I think you can, they have a luggage room!
It does not have a lift however it does offer ground floor rooms !
