Went here over the Easter holiday and spent a most relaxing long weekend with my wife and 1-year old son. This lovely little boutique hotel takes customer delight seriously. From the moment of booking over the phone after having found it in a trusted quality hotel listing, to the departure day when staff kindly sent us off with coffee, tea,...

By far the most fabulous place to visit. Went for our anniversary and it was a great experience. Place is lovely, staff can't do enough for you and the food was incredible. Cost a lot but expected it to and it was worth every penny.

My boyfriend and I had a last minute week here in March. What an amazing find. We loved everything about it - our names chalked on the door, the location of the hotel, the bedrooms and the views from them, the food and the general calmness of the place. All outstanding. The staff could not have been more helpful and...

Superb three course lunch. Delicate flavours, a fusion of eastern and western. Excellent service, personal and attentive. Wonderful terrace on the harbourside at St Mawes opposite Falmouth, which can be reached by ferry across the magnificent Falmouth harbour. A vantage point for watching the local ferries and sailing. Very well appointed restaurant.

Quietly understated luxury. Breakfasts a particular pleasure. Lovely bathrooms (though lacking a shaving/make-up mirror) but with great shower. The outside terrace in the late afternoon is to die for. St Mawes is a class act and The Idle Rocks seems to me to have displaced The Tresanton.

Excellent stay at the beautiful Idle Rocks that oozes cool relaxation right on the harbour side. Relaxed and quietly efficient staff and exquisite food and drink. Stayed in a cottage next to the main building and you wake to the sound of the sea lapping at your wall. St Mawes is perfectly and a wonderful retreat if you're seeking calm...

Fantastic location, fantastic food, great rooms with harbour views and very attentive staff. Can't be long until they receive a mitchelin star. We would recommend this hotel highly. We will return again in the autumn.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Idle Rocks has the most enviable location in St Mawes, overlooking the harbour with views across the River Fal to Falmouth. Our 19 bedrooms, most with stunning vistas over the bay, have been thoughtfully designed, each having their own unique identity with fabulous fabrics and decor that leave you in no doubt that you are by the sea. After a long day lazing on the beach, our south facing terrace is the perfect place to relax, have a long drink, and watch the world go by. You may even see your dinner being landed on the harbourside. The Idle Rock's restaurant, run by our head chef, Guy Owen, is a celebration of Cornwall; showcasing a range of fabulous produce that has been sourced locally using only seasonal fresh ingredients. In many cases it will have been swimming right on our doorstep only a few hours earlier and while the food is of the very highest standard our setting is very relaxed. ... more   less
