The location of this hotel is excellent if you want to be in central Exeter, near the cathedral, shops and restaurants. The hotel itself is in a beautiful building which has maintained many of its period features. The staff are excellent, food is simple but good and a great bar. The rooms are lovely with big, comfortable beds which is...

We had a second stay at this lovely house hotel. Positives were the really comfy bed/pillows, individual room designs, great breakfast, friendly staff, lovely old house and the location - just minutes from the city centre and the cathedral. Negatives are that in the room we stayed in, Chai, there was not much space to put our 'stuff' - fine...

We stayed at SHH on the eve and morning of our Golden Wedding Anniversary. We had the Silk room which was quite large with a huge bed, settee, chair and sideboard with Refreshments. The Bathroom just contained a Shower Cubicle and the basin and Sanitary ware were Villeroy and Bosch - top marks for that. Staff were friendly and served...

Lovely building and super room and bathroom. Parking is a pain. I had a cocktail in the bar and wanted something to eat and was told there was no kitchen until 6pm. In a hotel with rooms up to £250 a night I would expect a basic menu during the day. Shame. Asked about afternoon tea, but was told it...

We held our wedding in Southernhay House at the end of May and we stayed there the year before to see if we liked it. They can cater for everything including the ceremony, albeit for modest sized parties, we were only 16. It's a beautiful hotel in a stunning setting, unfortunately a little overlooked on the back, the garden looks...

We had a lovely stay and were treated to great food & drinks, friendly staff and a fantastic room. There is also secret garden by the cocktail bar which was nice to enjoy on a sunny evening. The food was excellent and the barman had the right skills :)

We've just got back from a lovely, relaxed one night stay at Southernhay. We had Cotton and our daughter had Spice, both good size rooms. Cotton has the large roll top bath, and it's a sunny room with views of the Square, but no wardrobe (only a few hooks). I can only reiterate all the positive comments made earlier. Excellent...

This hotel was a good choice for our stay in Exeter. The location is very central, close to the prettiest parts of the city. It is small enough to have a personal feel. We experienced a friendly welcome and our room was nicely decorated, if a little tight on bathroom space. Fine for a short stay. We managed to get...

We had dinner here with friends as part of a celebration and it was perfect, my husband and I stayed over and it was a real treat. The staff were faultless, they anticipated our every need. The cocktails were amazing, the food divine, the setting incredible. All in all we couldn't have asked for more.
