Everything from the service by all staff to the beautiful finishing touches in the bedrooms (complimentary decanter of port and fudge) was perfect. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again. Also a fantastic location very close to amenities.

So today being Easter Sunday my parents had arranged for a nice meal for lunch. I met them in Exeter city centre before heading to The City Gate Hotel. This review does NOT review the hotel as we only had lunch there. Lovely atmosphere and a warm welcome on a lovely sunny day. Menus were issued to us after we...

Could be best Pub in Exeter but these are not Pub prices. I know Young's brewery is in London but over £4 a pint in Exeter is excessive. The City Gate has always been expensive and has put up its prices once again. Great Garden but some concerns. Did a Banksy wannabe get pissed and do for 6 statues oh...

We held a Christmas dinner for 32 ladies at the City Gate and it was a tremendous success. The food was superb (thanks chef!) and the service second to none. Never before have we had such well organised, attentive service. Dan is an asset to the hotel, and well done Ben.

The communal areas for this hotel were very tired and dirty. Whilst the bedroom looked clean the bathroom had peeling paint, mouldy shower curtain and mouldy bath surround. In addition there was a cracked tile on the floor held together by selotape! The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything. The manager who sleeps above the top floor...

It's an old boozer and the rooms reflect that however there is no excuse for mouldy bathroom grout (there is a £6 spray in b and q called mould remover which would see this off in 20 minutes). The carpets are truly horrid and the general ambience is slightly depressing. The location is good. Just makes you wonder why the...

This hotel consists of rooms above a rather dated public house, and hotel check is at the pub bar. There are steep stairs up to the rooms (no apparent lift), with a filthy stair carpet that badly needs a deep clean or replacement. The room itself (room 13) was a reasonable size and appeared to have been upgraded in recent...
