The Devon Hotel garners appreciation for its pristine amenities and a festive atmosphere that guests find welcoming, especially praising the clean, comfortable rooms. Its location is frequently lauded for convenience, particularly for business and conference goers, despite occasional road noise. While the rooms and amenities are noted as basic by some, the cleanliness and service are often highlighted positively. However, opinions on decor, noise levels, and the value proposition vary, with a few guests noting overpricing concerns and inconsistent service experiences.

We were visiting Exeter for three nights in order to see family and having previously driven past The Devon decided to stay there. It has the advantage over the city centre hotels of having plenty of on site parking and yet only took us 10 minutes to get to my parents’ home by the river. We found all staff to be very welcoming and friendly.

We had a first floor king room looking onto the grass slope behind the hotel. Although we knew there was a busy roundabout to the front of the building we didn’t notice any traffic noise. The bed was comfortable and although very small the bathroom met our needs. Although the shower is over the bath it is very easy to step in and out as the side of the bath is nice and low. There was a flight of 4 steps from the bathroom, wardrobe, fridge area up to the rest of the room, no doubt because of the slope behind. There was a solid hand rail and floor level lighting here which was reassuring.

Breakfast was served in the restaurant next door which was accessed via a mostly covered walkway. Excellent selection of both hot and cold breakfast items plus some that could be ordered from the kitchen. Excellent porridge. We would happily stay here again but will consider moving up to an executive room in order to have a walk-in shower.

My 1st visit to The Devon on reccomendation of my husband, I can see why he did.
From the moment we arrived at reception to when we handed back our swipe card it was an excellent experience.
The staff were cheery and very helpful which is just want you want after a very long drive with a teen.
The room was spotless and had everything we required, the hospitality tray was very well stocked and had some needed biscuits.
The restaurant Carriages had a varied menu and we chose the carvery which
was an excellent choice as it was delicious.
The room was so quiet despite the hotel being close to a busy road.
TV was huge and beds were really comfortable .
We were very happy with our short stay and will definitely recommend and return ourselves .

Great hotel. Stayed for one night for work. The kind staff on reception moved my room due to the over night works taking place during my stay, moving me to another room without question.
Room clean, spacious, lovely shower. And the hotel (once moved) was quiet. Plenty of parking.
Lovely restaurant next door where I had a lovely carvery and brilliant breakfast the following morning.
Will definitely book here again.

I don’t usually write a review but was so disappointed after spending over £100 for a double room (breakfast not included), for 1 night as a birthday treat for my other half that I feel that I need to share my personal feedback.
The hotel itself looks nice from the outside, however, when we entered our very small double room, the room, although clean, had a very strange smell about it. As we had to dash out quickly it was only upon returning later in the evening when we noticed other things which deem it, in our eyes, poor value for money.
1. The volume on the TV didn’t work. There is however a printed message to advise that if this happens then try unplugging the HDMI lead. We did this for about 10 minutes before the TV finally worked. So, as the hotel charge so much, I can’t understand why they don’t just replace items rather than advising how to troubleshoot??
2. The toilet roll is thinner than even a supermarkets own brand.
3. Wood chip wallpaper…surely it must be time to update this dated look.
4. Extremely soft mattress. No good for the back, and as soon as your partner turns over in his sleep the whole mattress moves.
5. Bar closing time. We arrived back at the hotel at 10.30pm hoping for a nightcap before bed. We were advised that the bar times do depend on how busy they are, however, it had clearly been closed for a while as they were not even in the process of closing.
All in all, for a Brends hotel, I feel it was very poor indeed and therefore wouldn’t recommend.

Lovely hotel, well appointed. We paid a very modest price, which I do t think is always the case. I would stay here every time I visit my family if I could be sure of getting a good price. We also used the Brasserie, which was was very, though a bit pricey on certain items.

Have stayed three times this year when visiting family. The hotel is always spotless and the staff are extremely helpful and we've always found it to be good value for money.
Carriages Brasserie is great too.

Stayed here three times this year en route from the Northwest to the West Country. The hotel is conveniently located near the end of the M5, has clean comfortable rooms and has fed us well. It is also within walking distance of a Park and Ride allowing you to travel into Exeter by bus.

The Reception staff have have always been helpful and service in the restaurant is good.

The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Exeter, beside a busy road junction. This adds to the ease of access but could not be described as a beauty spot. There are trees and grass to be seen and traffic noise was not a problem.

This hotel was a fantastic find. A brilliant location for a West Country road trip and quick and convenient bus service into Exeter if needed. The mattress and pillows in the room were very comfortable and the room was very very quiet. All the staff I spoke to, in both the hotel and in Carriages, were very kind and helpful and really looked after me. I enjoyed a fantastic Carvery in Carriages on the Sunday night, complete with all the trimmings , and breakfast was also delicious and gave you all the choice you could possibly wish for. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel and hope to have the chance to return again soon

We booked this as an overnight stop before flying from Exeter Airport the next day instead of our usual budget chain hotel. Wow and wished we'd done this before. Check in wasn't until 1500hrs but as it was a quiet day we were allowed into our room 2 hours early which was a massive bonus. Room was really lovely and spacious and very comfortable. We booked a dinner bed and breakfast package and the evening meal was wonderful with only 2 items from the whole menu having a supplement charge which is very unusual for packages. Food was absolutely outstanding and staff were all very friendly and attentive. Plenty of room in the free car park and we even found a lovely walk not far from the hotel along the canal path. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be staying again.

Hi no you cannot walk to Exeter , so go by car and park and visit Exeter Quay IN THE MULTI CAR PARK at the Quay and then you can take a short walk to the Cathedral and the high street connects to it , about 4 minutes from the Quay car park

I’m sorry I can’t answer the cost of this hotel for New Year’s Eve phone the hotel direct or look at the charges online. What ever the price the food will not disappoint. Everything we ate over the long weekend we were there was delicious ample platefuls at reasonable cost with great quality food and service. Good luck on securing a booking for the new year.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you were not informed about the newspaper, it is popped at the rear access to the room just in case we have any sudden downpours. Thank you for informing us about the alarm call this has prompted further investigation which found a huge technical problem effecting some of our rooms. I am sorry to lose you as a customer, I hope that you would re consider staying with us so that we can rectify your perception of the hotel. Please feel free to contact me personally should you wish for me to arrange another stay for you at a pleasing rate. Yours sincerely Ross Hamilton Hotel Manager 01392 259268
