Second visit this year. Hotel wasn't full so we were immediately upgraded to a room of our choice. Staff are amazing...very friendly and helpful...nothing is too much trouble. Food is homemade and out of this world. Hotel needs updating but if you can look beyond that you won't be disappointed.

This was my only holiday this year and the staff absolutely made the break. From reception to bar staff to waitressing to all in the kitchen (the food was great!). The hotel is conveniently only a few minutes walk to the beach. The outdoor pool area and garden were a lovely place to chill as was the terrace off the restaurant and bar. I disagree with all lot of the previous review. The breakfast was fantastic, cereals, fruit, pastries and a full cooked range. The orange juice was great, unsure where the review about it being strange tasting came from! Whilst there is no lift, your cases are taken into the room and collected and even taken down the road to where our coach was picking us up! Good choice of drinks at a reasonable price in the bar, including Bailey's for my mum, Thatchers Gold for me and a good choice of wine with our meal and coffee for after. A good sign of any hotel is problems being fixed quickly. Our kettle didn't work and it was replaced straight away. Thanks to all of the hardworking staff at Abbey Sands who made my holiday this year. From the youngest member of the bowling crowd!

Firstly, yes it is a little dated and some aspects are rather tired. But. All of the staff were superb, especially the lovely Dace (Paldies paldies!). The Scottish Contingent are also well worth a mention, thank you. We ate dinner here and were surprised by the quality, truly first rate. The breakfast is fine, something for everyone. The location is perfect, far enough from the town centre to be quiet yet close enough for convenience. The hotel grounds are lovely: a good sized pool, lawn area and a kids play area. It’s the staff that make this place so special; and at the end of the day how long do you actually spend in your hotel room? All in all, I throughly recommend this hotel. If in doubt check out my other reviews, I’m no soft touch!

Good morning Mark S We would like to begin by thanking you for taking the time to write your review as we always appreciate guest feedback in order to improve the product that we offer. We have passed your comments about our staff onto the relevant managers and they have informed the relevant staff members. We would also like to thank you for your understanding regarding our ongoing renovations and improvements to the hotel as we, alongside the rest of the hospitality industry recover from the recent lockdown - it is a very long and expensive process but we're definitely getting there! It's also great to hear that you enjoyed our facilties and took advantage of everything we had to offer and we look forward to welcoming you through our doors again.

Stayed as part of a family group of 6 in three double/twin rooms for one night, the total bill for which was a scarcely credible £760, especially given the quality of two of the three rooms (shabby, tired, fixtures that fell off when you touched them, no air conditioning, absolutely nothing even hinting at justifying a £250 per night rate per room). Receptionist a bit hopeless. Showed to our room by a young lad who’d perhaps been grouting a bathroom judging by the state of his t-shirt. All communal areas locked in a timewarp somewhere around 1995. Bar not stocked well and staffed by a young lad who gave the impression he’d not been in a pub before let alone served in one. Breakfast complete with super mystery texture and taste sausages and the oddest tasting orange juice I’ve ever come across. Yes, it was booked late and in the week of the August Bank Holiday so we were chumps waiting to be fleeced because pretty much everything within 20 miles was booked, but the Abbey Sands committed grand larceny on us, and we were left with a lot of unfocused anger. The next time I hear a British seaside hotelier bemoaning their lot I’ll ruefully be reminded of our gruesome time at the Abbey Sands and know that some of them are the architects of their own demise. In summary, just don’t do it unless they’re basically giving it away and you’ve got a sense of humour.

I would like to begin by thanking you for taking the time to write your review as we always appreciate guest feedback – positive or negative in order to increase the quality of our hotel and services that we offer. It was disheartening reading your comments about our staff as they do not reflect almost every other review we have received and it seems to be an isolated case in your situation. Regarding the rooms – if we had been informed of your displeasure upon arrival, we would have, of course been very happy to move you to different rooms if we had the availability at the time. We would however appreciate your understanding regarding the expensive process of refurbishment and renovation of the hotel as we, amongst many others like us are still recovering from the recent lockdown and recruitment and training of new staff is still one of the many obstacles the industry are attempting to overcome. Once again, thank you for your review and we look forward to welcoming you through our doors, should you decide to give us another chance.

Shockingly dated and unclean hotel which is not portrayed correctly on the hotel website! Room decor had patches of mismatched paint, worn, dirty and threadbare carpet and creaky floorboards throughout the room. The furniture was also dated, not worthy of £171 per night. Workmen invading privacy of ‘your sanctuary’ and not wearing PPE - disregard for our and their safety during uncertain times! This was dismissed by hotel manager John Flores. On return from breakfast our bathroom was in a state of disrepair but no fault found! We had the inconvenience of being moved to another room although better quality, the toilet was uncleared and deposits were left to welcome us! To top our stay off beautifully we were put by the ‘dog section’ - what a laugh and not a relaxing stay! DO NOT BOOK!

Hi M9217UKnicolac It is most regretful that nowadays it seems that we must resort to untruthful online smear campaigns in order to get our way when we aren't given it in the first place. We will however address your concerns here in public as it seems you would prefer it to be so, despite the efforts we have gone through since your initial complaint email. Our maintenance team came to your room initially in order to resolve a water leak issue with the room below yours - they knocked and were greeted very rudely. They decided to leave and come back once you had left the room so that they didn't bother you again. They came back, in a pair after you had left the room to sort out the issue - we work in pairs when we are required to enter a guest's room solely for security purposes. The job in question was also done after the restrictions were lifted and they were not required to use the PPE - as you can imagine - working in a tiny, dark space can be made difficult with COVID PPE. Your issue with the above situation or any instance thereafter was not mentioned to us for the remainder of your stay as we would have acted swiftly upon it. After breakfast, our Operations Manager personally saw to it that you were upgraded to a better room with an improved sea view free of charge. All of our rooms are also thoroughly cleaned and then checked by our Housekeeping Manager before they are cleared for occupation by our guests, and it is impossible that a room would have been cleared for guests without the bathroom being checked. We would also like to address your concerns regarding the so-called "dog section" of the hotel. We are a pet friendly hotel because we care a great deal about our guests and their pets, so we welcome them with open arms. There are several rooms throughout the hotel that are our "designated pet rooms" and they do not encompass one section of the hotel. The rooms that were chosen for this function were specifically designed with pets in mind, so they are the most soundproofed rooms of our hotel. In conclusion, we have tried our best to communicate with you and been more than reasonable in attempting to come to a mutual agreement since receiving your initial complaint, we have offered you a free nights' stay on your next booking with a complimentary upgrade subject to availability after we have finished our upgrades which are soon to begin. Unfortunately, in the current economic climate recovering from the lockdown, we cannot afford to offer you a hand but lose an entire arm.
