The location of this hotel took us by surprise and was very special, the hotel is in a Regency crescent which overlooks a lovely sheltered blue flag beach/bay. There were terraces overlooking the bay for lunch/ drinks. Our room was at the back and had an okay view of trees , it was spacious and comfortable with a large bathroom We walked into town for dinner - it was not very far but relatively steep The choices at breakfast were good and in summary would like to return (depending on the price)

really needs an upgrade inside. Checking in took for ever. The reception staff changed every few hours without anyone seeming to know what was required. The room (classed as a junior suite) had a nice view over the front of the hotel but lacked facilities to call it a 4 star. Toiletries consisted of one shampoo and one body wash of unknown label. The walk in shower lacked both a slip mat and essential toiletries holder so you had to keep shampoo etc on the shower floor. No robes or slippers. No room service. No food other than a meal in the restaurant. Little things you might say but this is supposed to be 4 star. Although there was a notice saying masks to be worn, the recptionist said, well it's up to you. We had our first meal in the restaurant and all three courses were good, so we were pleased and looked forward to breakfast - oh dear - awful does not cut it! We tried something different every morning and nothing was good from bacon like leather to unrecognisable scrambled egg. This curious serving was piled into a set tower and resembled orange cuscus. Tasted foul. Left it. The juice etc was a help yourself table and even make your own toast. Did not thing it was good when covid was still around. Jug of juice, some packets of cereal obvious frozen mixed berries and yoghurt. No food was available except for the restaurant in the evening and if you wanted any kind of snack then it was a £5 taxi ride into Torquay. Paid the bill. Won't be back.

Myself and my husband have just got home from a 5 night stay here and after reading some of the reviews we were pleasantly surprised. Lovely welcome at check in, very friendly, very clean comfy bed and large room, yes a little dated… did it ruin the holiday…. not at all. Staff are all extremely friendly and very helpful, breakfast is scrumptious with plenty of choice, ordered as table service to desired request and nothing seemed too much trouble. Views from terrace are amazing and we had fabulous weather which was a bonus, drink prices were similar prices to the harbour which we thought was reasonable for a hotel, a 20 minute walk to marina but alternatively £4+ in a taxi. We will definitely return !!!! Thanks for a lovely stay.

Reception asked my partner if he was ok, presumably, they’d seen him carrying our our pillows and my single mattress topper (I would have taken a double if we’d had enough space in the car) As noted in the Sunday Telegraph review from 2016 they recommend taking your own pillow, good advice you’ll need it. The Mattresses are too firm and not in a good way. Best to take your own toiletries, I’ve never seen ones so cheap in a 4 star hotel anything nice I’d usually take home, theirs were left unused. Try and get a reduced room rate, without breakfast (cafe by Meadford beach is good) and enjoy the views. Years ago this was a 3 star hotel and should have remained one. The word on the street is a new 5* hotel is being built, I will definitely be looking into this, when you get to a certain age you need your home comforts

You cannot beat the location and views of this hotel. The terrace is a stunning spot to have a drink and look over the sea. I was only here for 1 night & had a single room and to be completely honest I’ve had better travelodges! The single rooms are on a floor of their own at the back of the hotel so my view was a grass verge and I presume the staff smoking area as that’s all I could smell. The room is very tiny, 3/4 size bed, chair and table, fine for 1 night but wouldn’t want to stay longer. If I’d known the room was like this I would of booked a different room. I asked about room service and was advice it’s the same menu as restaurant, so decided to eat in the restaurant. I have to say as an ex chef ridiculously over priced, I presume we are paying for the location. I would recommend training the staff as myself and other tables were bought out mains whilst we were still eating our starters! The location sells the hotel, but I would strongly avoid the standard rooms and book a local restaurant instead
