I chose the hotel for its sea view location and recently reported refit. Our room did not disappoint and the manager and staff delivered a first class experience for visitors seeking a quiet Christmas break with excellent food and friendly company.

Mostly good but had two issues with food two nights on the trot..first night ordered burger etc..I could not cut it as it was so over cooked..it was replaced and the second one was not a lot better ..my partner and I were given a pudding as compensation...second night my steak was cold ..even the garlic butter did not get...

After a cold walk on the beach we took refuge in the warmth of the Commodore Hotel and decided to stay for lunch. The food was excellent despite our modest choice from the menu of a two course meal consisting of plaice & chips/cottage pie for the mains and apple pie for us both for dessert. Everything was served hot...

Stayed for one night at the Commodore Hotel. Checked in around 7pm. There is no dedicated reception area you have to go into the bar and let a member of staff know you want to check in, one end of the bar is the hotel check in/out area. Check in was easy, we had booked one double room and one...

We have visited the Commodore on numerous occasions this being the first since its refit in May and what an improvement this has made. We have always been more than happy with the service and the accommodation and position the hotel is in and the convenience to get to where ever you want which is excellent, but now with the...

Reasonably priced. Good location above the beach. About a mile and a half walk into Bournemouth, 3 minutes to Fisherman's Walk shops and bars. Plenty of parking. Food is fine. More a pub hotel but the prices reflect this.

Stayed for two nights over the weekend and I have to say the room was so much better than my last visit, the hotel has had a refurbishment. Funnily enough we were put in the same room we had on our last visit. Breakfast was a little dissapointing as the buffet part was almost non existant (no pastries or muffins...

We stayed here for 1 night as a stopover with our 2 children. The family room was nice with a double bed with ensuite and a separate area with twin beds for the children. We also had a second toilet, which anyone with children will know is a blessing in itself! The room facilities whilst not being luxurious were perfectly adequate....

We've just got back after spending a night here and have to echo what other people have said on here - good food, great location, but above all absolutely outstanding staff. I'd never normally choose a Greene King pub but the attitude of the staff outweighed any negatives. And this morning's breakfast, Eggs Royale (that's salmon and poached eggs in...

This was our first visit to the Commodore although we know Bournemouth very well. The hotel is in a great position. Negatives...lift not working and we were on the top floor. Rooms very hot even with no heating. Parking a nightmare both nights we had to park away from the hotel in side streets not sure how the older residents...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Commodore Hotel Southbourne near Bournemouth is on the Dorset cliff tops at Southbourne adjacent to the cliff lifts and Fisherman's Walk with easy access from the A31 and A338. The spectacular views across Poole bay take in Swanage to the West and Hengistbury Head and the Isle of Wight to the East. The Commodores location, close to the New Forest, and Bournemouth town centre, makes it an ideal base from which to explore Hampshire and Dorset. The Commodore was built in 1928 and was originally called Crawford's Tea Rooms. In the war it was used to house serving American airmen. In the early 50's an extension was added and it became Crawford's Bar and Hotel. Not long after that, it became The Commodore Hotel. A very popular holiday location. There is limited car parking provided by the hotel but ample on-street car parking within a few minutes walk. ... more   less
