My wife and I have stayed here 3 times now-we love the place. You need to see beyond some surface issues like decoration/carpets etc and enjoy spacious rooms, taking in fact building something like 120 years old with all the character of that time. Perfectly positioned for beach/promenade and Town shopping.

Myself & a friend stayed here this week for the one night as we were at an event at the BIC. The staff were very helpful & welcoming. The room spacious & clean with comfy beds. The breakfast was very well served, plates being cleared as soon as we had finished & plenty of choice. My only gripe would be...

Spent 4 nights here. Yes the rooms are a bit tired and so is the leisure club but - and it's a big but - the staff were all friendly, everywhere was spotlessly clean, the breakfasts were excellent and we paid £190 for a four night bed and breakfast break for two! At that price and with the service we...

Had a lovely weekend at the Wessex with our dance friends . Slightly worried after some negative reviews but really pleasantly surprised . Nice bright reception and bar area , our room ( 180 ) was huge , with a large ensuite , and the food and service really good , as other people have mentioned , the breakfast was...

very tired hotel needs updating. Although our room was large on the second night it was really cold because the boiler had broken down, it was fixed eventually and there was not enough heating in the bathroom. bar food was adequate as was the breakfast. Bar service was a let down lacking staff.

The bed was 2 singles joined together but was very comfortable. Breakfast wasn't included in with room but if you pay in advance your get a buffet...

All of the staff we came into contact with were friendly & helpful. The breakfast spread was phenomenal which was included with the room price on Groupon. The dinners we had; Fajitas, Mediterranean pasta &the Zinfandel rose wine we loved. For the price we paid we understood why the room was not refurbished and you could hear everything the neighbouring...

In view of some recent reviews not sure what the standard would be but in fact pleasantly surprised. Although hotel tired and in need of updating, room was clean and spacious. Breakfast particularly good. Other meals some better than others. We were half board but I would have been extremely disappointed if I had paid the individual meal prices. Drinks...

We stayed at the Wessex for one night whilst visiting a relative in hospital Pros- very friendly attentive staff who were happy & helpful whenever we had dealings with them. Our room was incredibly spacious (ideal as we had our dog) & we were allowed the pooch (big bonus as couldn't find a sitter so last minute). The room was...
