The Grand Brighton stands out for its prime location near the beach and local attractions, often commended by guests for this advantage. While the hotel's grand, traditional atmosphere and praised amenities, including sumptuous breakfasts and attentive service, add to its charm, some travelers note the rooms can be a hit or miss with inconsistencies in modernity, noise levels, and maintenance.
Despite rave reviews for cleanliness and space, the value proposition is sometimes questioned due to steep prices and hidden charges.

Detailed Reviews
We decided to push the boat out for our anniversary and go for a Delux Sea View Double Room. We paid a total of £690 for 2 nights (£230 Fri and £460 Sat) incl. breakfast. The room itself was large and beautiful - and of course, the sea view was amazing. However, the bathroom was a different story! It was not of the same standard at all. It had a standard traditional shower over the bath and a shower curtain but as you use the shower, the water pressure somehow makes the shower curtain blow onto you and stick so you spend your time fighting it off! When I mentioned this at reception, the lady said all the bathrooms for that sort of bedroom have shower curtains! Why don't they have a glass shower screen? The basin also had a small crack. How can they charge £460 a night for that? Clearly the refurbishment money did not extend to the bathroom. No wonder the website doesn't show bathroom photos. I do think it is rather misleading to do that. When you see a beautiful bedroom, you expect the bathroom to be of a similar standard.
There was a lack of normal plug sockets in the bedroom which made it hard to plug in the kettle and to charge phones. They had lots of odd lighting sockets which we couldn't use.
Also, because of Covid, although we arrived on Friday afternoon about 4.10pm, there were no spaces in the car park. We were able to park outside the hotel to drop off our bags and then parked in the car park behind and they provided a discount as other people have mentioned. That worked out fine but it would have been nice to be notified in advance.
We were disappointed with the Cyan restaurant. I thought it would be more upmarket. I found the menu very narrow and similar to what you find in many places. Maybe this was Covid related but I wouldn't go again. The staff were casually dressed and it didn't feel special at all. The decor of the bar however was excellent and we enjoyed coffee and desert in there as well as drinks. Unfortunately the bar was full at times because of covid restrictions but they called us in our room when there was space. Worth booking a table in advance. Well done to the hotel for taking great care with all things Covid. Also special thanks to the wonderful team of gentlemen on the door who were helpful, welcoming and funny. Could I just politely suggest that uniforms are checked? I thought that the man who approached us when we arrived, was possibly a homeless man or a 'character' because his trousers were a bit short and his jacket looked a bit scruffy! I was expecting a more traditional outfit and this is obviously more contemporary. Maybe it was just his uniform but it didn't look very smart.

We stayed 4 nights and felt safe . The Hotel is doing everything possible to prevent Covid 19 infection. There is hand sanitiser everywhere and guests are required to wear masks unless seated to eat or drink. Most people complied with this.
Our room was spotless and comfortable.Room cleaning has to be requested and you are given an approximate time for this so you are not in your room.
Breakfast is served in the Empress Suite, in order to space tables apart. There is a limited menu. A choice of cereals and juices followed by a further choice of cooked items, fruit platter or continental. We found each day that our cooked breakfast was pretty much cold. Personally I don’t eat cereal and would have enjoyed a little fruit and yoghurt but this was a “ main course” option from which one could select one item . However, they are doing their best and allowances have to be made during the pandemic.
We enjoyed some great cocktails in the bar and had no problem getting a table as mentioned in other reviews.
We parked in the ncp carpark behind the hotel, and were given vouchers to reduce the daily cost to £18 .
Big shout out to Ben the doorman, such a friendly, professional chap who clearly loves his job .

My boyfriend and I always come for a trip to Brighton around Christmas and this time we opted for the Grand. I love arriving to the hotel with the friendly doormen who will always ask you if you know where you're going and hope that you have a nice day etc. The hotel was so beautifully decorated for Christmas and the newly refurbished bar and restaurant were so cosy and stylish. The man at the front desk was very polite and we were even given a £10 voucher for the bar as a thank you for booking directly through the hotel.
We were very pleased with our room which was a really good size and the bathroom too which had nice toiletries to use. Although the room was very clean and comfortable and the interiors are lovely, I would say if it is within your financial means definitely opt for a sea view room as our room literally looked onto a brick wall and a block of flats. But of course, this can't be helped.
The breakfast is amazing! There is a small menu for breakfasts which are an extra price outside of the included breakfast but you barely need to consider it as the food on offer at the buffet has everything you could want! One small thing is that none of the breakfast food had labels for allergies. My boyfriend is allergic to nuts and asked at the start of the meal if one of the muffins had nuts in them. Someone did try to find out for us but they had to go and research the supplier and brand etc, so by the time they came back to us, we had already finished our meal.
Again, this is such a tiny thing and it really didn't affect the wonderful stay that we had, I would definitely come back.

I and my partner had the pleasure of staying at this unique hotel once again last week, from the moment we arrived we were made to feel special, all the staff seemed genuinely helpful and friendly. We decided to push the boat out and stayed on the top floor with fabulous sea views, our large room was spotlessly clean with a massive and comfy bed and everything we needed was close to hand.Downstairs the superb bar offered an extensive selection of beers, spirits and cocktails although it seemed very easy to run up a three figure bar bill...I blame my partner ! We only booked for bed and breakfast as we fancied trying some of the great restaurants in the surrounding streets. The breakfast had a fabulous selection of treats to satisfy every palate and can only be described as first class. To be slightly critical the old place could do with a little sprucing up here and there however that did not detract from a very enjoyable stay.

The stay was overall very pleasant.
It was let down as found a hair on my egg at breakfast and the bacon wasnt that warm. two male staff working on sunday 22nd february were releuctant to take my coffee order and spent much time trying to pass me on the other; it took the hostess bluntly asking them to sort it out for my order to be taken by one of them. The room service was promot enough but when asking for sauces by the time they had arrived I had already eaten my dinner. when ordering dessert the person who took my order on the phone seemed faitgued to the pooint I had to repeat myself three times.
For future reference do not place guests who use groupon and lastminute in rooms near the stairs with a rubbish view, with baths that are slightly chipped and where the grouting in the bathroom needs redoing. You're giving the impression you only care about the wealthy who pay directly through you,

My wife and I are just back from a really great time staying at The Grand for 3 nights. The history, atmosphere and overall grandeur of the building can't be ignored....it surrounds you. Yes, there are a few paint chips and some tape on a few areas of the carpets but that only adds to the ambience and character. We had an "inland view" room - so had no view but the the room itself was very large and had all the amenities you require. Breakfast was a brilliant experience with great service and fresh, high quality ingredients. The final bill showed a small service charge for each of our drinks rounds in the bar but that was the only very minor negative point to make. So if you want to sample a great slice of history with the best location in Brighton - give The Grand a visit. We highly recommend it....

Well......words cant describe how amazing our stay was at The Grand!
From the moment we pulled the car up at the main entrance we was made to feel a bit like royalty. The door staff are exceptional and an asset to the Hotel. Due to Covid they are not allowed to park the car but as we chose to park at the hotel we was given precise instructions and told no bother at all day or night if want to use car. Yes is expensive but on par with the NCP's etc and i know its safe in there! We arrived about 11.30am and as check in was not until 3pm we was prepared to leave our luggage and head out to town but upon checking in we was informed our room was actually ready so we went straight up! Room 519 Grand Deluxe king room! What a room! The TV was about the size of a wall with sky HD plus a lovely coffee machine, bath robes and a balcony that was exceptional! Clean and very tidy.
Breakfast was served in the room at the exact time we asked for it each day and was lovely and fresh and hot!
The whole hotel all be it the world is in this COVID crisis made me and my partner safe and not even worry. Various Hand sanitizers dotted around but generally had no worry about anything.
All the staff are amazing but i would like to give a HUGE thank you to the door staff especially the older gentleman(sorry didnt get his name who has been there 4 years) he was a delight to chat to and made us feel that extra bit special by greeting us as we left each morning and arrived back at the hotel.
We was so happy we actually stayed an extra night and have already booked for next year!
Thank you "The Grand Hotel" you defiantly live up to your name!

We live locally so this is a stay cation for us or where we head to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, so a last minute stay at the grand was booked in the king deluxe sea view room 622…
The hotel location is obviously faultless, the doormen are always polite and the entrance and reception area still have the grand feeling but everything behind that is not quite the standard the hotel name may suggest.
There was three of us for this hotel stay. My special request was extra towels and pillows. When checking in the receptionist wasn’t the most friendly but we did get the room 30 minutes Early..
I had to call for the missing items as two hours later housekeeping showed with one bath towel extra and told me she was trying to locate 2 pillows which we would need for the sofa bed… trying to locate on a Sunday ? For a guest in the most expensive room option bar the suite and the feature room?
Toiletries again provided for just one person. We didn’t bother calling for more…
We had room service due to the bad weather outside and it came within the time schedule. The room service menu is poor and limited. They do not do garlic bread as a side but you can have garlic butter?? My child got a toasted cheese sanwhich which was vile, heavily processed cheese and was not edible.
Our food was ok, but the puddings were cold and clearly microwaved. Not a grand dining experience for sure !
Unfortunately I was woken at 12am by the room above stamping and running across the floor, this went on for 45 minutes so I called reception who couldn’t have sounded less interested and said ‘ leave it with me ‘
The next time we were woken was to the bill being shoved under the door …
Breakfast was okay. It came during the allocated time slot ( you have to take your breakfast sheet down to them if you want to eat in your room which was annoying when I had a 5 year old in pyjamas ) Again for three people they gave one small pot of jam.. no salt and one ketchup.. I called down again and I must say the attitude of the staff when your requesting anything is to argue back with you..
I explained there is three people and she jumped in saying look in the cup.. I had already looked in the cup and there was one jam and one ketchup… I replied that at this point I wasn’t arguing it I simply needed what I needed to enjoy my breakfast!
I do not know of the grand hotel is struggling financially because it seems they are cutting back wherever they can.. the lack of toiletries , the lack of towels, the fuss to find a pillow , the lack of breakfast stuff … very strange really!
We used express check out .. I would return but not for £279 a night ..
The room was clean, but old. The bathroom had cheap Lino flooring and uneven floorboards, the door was battered , the shower rail was rotting…
You need to do better to keep the hotel reputation ‘ Grand’

Beautiful Hotel but service was very disappointing, no greetings and smile from any of the staff.
Afternoon tea:
Beautiful room with very nice table setups
Everything wonderfully presented, but the sandwiches not having much flavour and the salmon tasted like from the tin. Did not expect that for that price.
Scones and cakes was delicious I must say.
On the end real surprise was 10% service charge I do believe that should be up to customers if they want to and how much. (I know you can ask to be taken off the bill but is not really nice to ask for it)
My friends also mentioned that they been feeling watched by the staff wchich was very uncomfortable.
Overall I'm not impressed by that experience

Stayed for 3 nights in a De Luxe Sea View room on the sixth floor.... the room was large, spacious and airy and comprised a king size bed, sofa, 2 armchairs, a desk and chair with TV and Nespresso coffee machine and small supply of teas and coffees. The bathroom offered a bath and separate walk in shower cubicle, toilet and bidet, with twin wash basins, proprietary bath products, two very large soft fluffy bath sheets, 2 handtowels, face cloths and 2 bath robes. There was the smallest of balconies (standing room only). The room did not have air conditioning and although there was a ceiling fan the room felt hot most of the time and opening the balcony window was the only way to cool the room down but being above the busy coastal road meant it was too noisy to have the window open for long.
The public areas of the hotel are inadequate for the number of bedrooms and I witnessed people being turned away from the bar because it was full and/or they hadn't reserved a place. The hotel needs a separate resident's lounge/library away from the bars and restaurants to enable guests to relax in quieter surroundings.
The food menu was quite good and the three course meal at lunchtime was a bargain at £20 a head. Drinks were a little expensive and the room rate (over £400 a night to include car parking ) was very high in comparison to other hotels on the same road. Our total bill was £1,588 for three nights, 3 lunches and some snacks and drinks at the bar.
The Spa was closed although this was not pointed out to us at the time of booking, the hotel does not have an indoor swimming pool which was a major disappointment for a 5 star rated property.
Overall we had a very pleasant stay, the staff were excellent throughout all areas of the hotel.

Sorry...not sure
Hi, rooms are well equipped with kettles and fridge and I’m sure the hotel staff will assist in any way they can. They were very obliging. Enjoy your visit. Cheers
