I can’t believe the state of the room we had - dated, not clean and damaged. Worst of all I never knew but apparently an “inland view” means frosted windows because the “inland view” is four dirty claustrophobic walls. We came away for a lovely retreat for my girlfriends birthday. I emailed the hotel to say it was for a special birthday, as I had seen on the reviews that the hotel put some special items in rooms for someone’s birthday. The hotel said “they would act on this information for me” and nothing was done at all. For the money I paid for this room I would expect at least to be able to see some sort of light in the room but no it was dark and dreary. The staff were lovely - but I will not be staying here again.

Special treatment as a single female traveller. i booked many months ago through booking.com and paid for a single room for the weekend. Upon arrival was automatically updated to a spacious family room thanks to the lovely Monty on the front desk. The room is fresh and light, with all the little touches you like from a four star hotel.

At £189 per night (no view), this place is 40-50% overpriced. The exterior and lobby is impressive and though I didn't try them, the bars and restaurant looked the part as well. But get upstairs to your room and its all a bit former glory: musty smelling corridors, awkwardly place battered firedoors and creaking floors. The room and bathroom were basic. There was no rod on the sink to pull up the plug once it had been pushed down and the gap under the ill-fitting door to the room let in so much light from the brightly lit corridor that I had to use spare pillows to block it in order to sleep. Not really the issues you expect for that kind of money. They also want payment on arrival, which creates the wrong impression in my book. But it was clean and the staff did want my opinion on the way out

OK, we didn`t stay there but just popped in for a drink. We were made SO welcome by the staff from Felipe and the other man in the bar to the guy who let us explore the Conference Room to Sebastian from Versailles to the lovely Latvian receptionist. We will go back as it was such a good atmosphere.

We were attending a conference in Brighton and decided to stay here. Good location (right across from the beach). The Holiday Inn, & Doubletree are much closer to the Conference Centre, but it wasn’t too much further. Parking is £25 a day, but the car park is tiny. It does look a little faded, from the outside (a huge fruit picker was stuck outside, checking the concrete during the whole of our stay and woke us up at 8am) and parts of the interior look pretty jaded, especially the carpets in some areas. BUT our room was lovely. There was a mug with a huge crack down one side, (replaced when I mentioned it to the maid) and a broken mirror in the wardrobe. We’d picked an upgrade to a Privilege room, and it’s a much better size than the one originally booked and also had a great sea view. The bathroom is lovely - freshly decorated and with a big shower (no bath). Toiletries were very nice, but not refilled. The deal we booked included breakfast (English, and some continental meats but very poor selection of bread - basically sliced was all I could see) which was quite reasonable. It also included bathrobe & slippers & a newspaper. The bathrobe & slippers weren’t in the room when we checked in. We told the receptionist at 3pm, but they still weren’t there at 7pm. About 7.30, robes arrived and slippers some while later. We found out that the hotel don’t provide newspapers- despite our email from Mercure. To the hotel’s credit, they did deliver a paper in the morning. Lovely coffee machine in the room, but this was not refilled. Whilst we were staying there, we encountered several people who didn’t have the rooms with accessibility they requested & thought they’d booked, and were met with a “for a small charge we can upgrade…” and someone in a wheelchair who was given a room which had several steps between their room and lift, despite notifying the hotel of their requirements. On the whole, not too horrendous, for the price paid, (average price including upgrade 160£ per night), but could be better.

Stayed here for 4 nights for a conference, bed and breakfast, in a classic room. The room was not ready for the 3pm check in time which is not great after a long journey. Once in the room I was very disappointed. The net curtain was dirty, black at the bottom. Carpet was dirty and in places, ripped and coming up at the edges of the room. There are no plugs by the bed at all. Window, filthy. A friend has to move rooms due to the amount of mould in the bathroom. The building is a lovely building but some strange design choices, such as fitting doors on each floor of a grand open staircase.

The hotel is very close to the station. We walked from the station to the hotel with our son on a pushchair very easily. It is a very nice walk as the hotel is just next to the sea. The hotel is very beautiful, high sealing, very nice color. The bedroom is big enough, a bed for our son was ready and there was lots of space for our stuff. The team is very welcoming, we felt very good from the beginning till the end. As it was our son's first birthday, they mad a surprise and gave him a balloon and a birthday card was waiting for him in our bedroom. Thanks a lot again to the team, Amal, Casey, Ryan, Chloe, Marianna! :) The breakfast is delicious, and all the team is ready to help, as it is not always easy to have a breakfast with a baby but our son enjoyed a lot. And the view is very beautiful. We also had dinner the first night and again, all went very well, Sebastien took care about everything, merci encore! :) So, it was a very good experience, they made us feel very comfortable and did everything for our son to make him happy for his 1st birthday...

Absolutely beautiful hotel - Luxurious decor, very plush & smart. Large relaxed reception area with access to the rear carpark directly from hotel. Lovely bedroom & shower facilities with gorgeous toiletries. My only complaint would be my room was very small but didn't affect how comfortable & warm it was. Thankyou.

This was easily one of our most delightful stays in a Mercure hotel! Upon arrival the staff was very welcoming and pleasant to chat with, they quickly went through our check-in and we were offered a room upgrade, getting one with sea view. As it was Easter, we realised when we entered our room that the Easter Bunny had hidden chocolate eggs in various places! Needless to say, our daughter was extremely happy! The room itself was very good, spacious for a Mercure hotel, clean and tidy. We were impressed with the bathroom, very well built with taps working like a charm! Staff was really nice and accommodating, they would always smile and help with whatever query/request we had. The restaurant was also nice, we tried scampi and it was delicious. Breakfast was also pretty good, even though we would have preferred availability of fresh bread, rather than sliced bread, but that was just a minor nuisance. The building itself is pretty old and it shows, meaning that the rooms can get a bit cold, but this is really expected for such an old building. Location is superb, very convenient and providing easy access to all Brighton hot spots. Highly recommended!
