The Mercure Brighton Seafront Hotel garners acclaim for its well-appointed amenities and prime location near attractions, with guests enjoying the comfort and quiet of soundproofed rooms. While the stylish lobby and bar set a romantic tone, some guests feel the rooms fall short in comparison. The staff's warm service often leads to memorable stays, though opinions on value and room maintenance vary. Cleanliness is generally praised, though some areas show signs of needed refurbishment.

We have stayed at this hotel many times and the rooms in the main hotel are even more beautiful since the hotel's refurbishment a year ago. They come at a price and you can expect to pay for these rooms around £200 per night over the weekend. We could see the sea from one of the front rooms which was stunning. The breakfast on Sunday morning was the only downside: one would expect a hot cup of tea and a hot cooked breakfast at 9.30 am when breakfast is served until 11 am. We had the worst cup of tea made with luke warm water and one tea bag in a pot of tea. We asked the one waiter who had to serve the whole breakfast room which was very full with about 25 people whether he could bring another tea for two with hot water and two teabags per pot. He returned after 10 minutes with one tea bag. The bacon was cold and so were the rest of the dishes under the hot plate. The only thing which was hot were the handles of the serving cutlery. Pity. We would of course stay at this hotel again but we would rather have breakfast at the beach cafe across the road which served piping hot and fresh bacon sandwiches and deliciously hot and strong mugs of tea each morning come rain or shine.

I've read recent reviews and agree that some of the rooms need a refresh. The managers know this and will plan when appropriate.

The reception and staircase areas have been upgraded since my first visit & have a boutique feel. I took photos to send to a friend and hardly ever do that (not on the 'gram).
The check in was quick and easy, with covid-safe procedures in place. You're given an A4 welcome sheet,as all non-essential items have been removed from rooms.

We stayed in room 105 which is a cosy and clean double. Coffee, teabags etc all in a sealed bag. I'm travelling with antiviral spray and a microfibre cloth and spray light switches, remotes etc when I enter any new hotel room. This is no reflection on Mercure, I am being covid careful.

The hotel is on the seafront and really easy to find. You can book parking and pay when you leave. All parking in Brighton is expensive and scarce, don't be surprised by this. It's a popular place to live, work and be on holiday.

The hotel staff were helpful and professional. We did not eat or drink in the hotel. Brighton is spoilt for choice in that respect.

I would stay again and hope to be back soon. Thank you.

Stayed here for 2 nights this week with friends. The hotel is in a great location (right on the seafront and just 2 minutes from the i360 plus walking distance to The Lanes, the Pier, Brighton Pavillion and several restaurants and cafes). The hotel itself is pleasantly decorated, clean and all Covid measures are being followed. The rooms were well appointed, clean with decent sized bathrooms and very comfortable beds (the view was not that good – just a back fire escape overlooking the back of other rooms and somebody had left a bag of takeaway on the balcony, which, over the course of the time we were there, was being more and more scattered by the seagulls – rice, meat, some sort of bread, bags and foil containers were strewn everywhere – we did report this on the second day but it was still there the next day so we had to report it again – when a seagull nearly flew into our actual room in it’s attempt to swoop on the remnants!). Breakfast was excellent – the sausages and bacon were of good quality, the eggs well cooked and plenty of fresh fruit, pastries, cereals, juices etc were available. Staff were friendly and polite. Over all a very pleasant stay.

Barry is a legend! Highlight of our 1 night in Brighton! I was staying here away from the others so it was nice to have a friendly face during my stay. We arrived before our check in, left our stuff with Barry and went and enjoyed our day out. Barry didn’t miss any detail and was most welcoming. I booked through secret escapes which included 2x drinks at the bar and a later check out of 1pm. The hotel room was a decent stay for 1x night and breakfast was good. All the stuff were really friendly and helpful! We love bazza!

Stayed two nights in September room only. Very quick check in and we were allowed access to our room on arrival even though we were an hour and a half ahead of check in time.
Well appointed double room at side of hotel, no sea view which we knew on booking, but had benefit of being quit.
Room appeared to have been redecorated recently and bathroom was clean and modern with a good shower. Room was not cleaned during our stay due to Covid but again we were aware of this and was not a problem.
Hotel and staff appeared very geared up re Covid procedures and it felt like a very safe environment. We asked for an extra toilet roll and this was delivered to room in a sealed paper bag.

Hotel has a great beach front location and a fantastic art deco style lobby.

Close to all of Brighton's attractions and has the benefit of a beachside cafe across the road which is ideal for an al fresco breakfast, lunch or just a coffee.

This is a newly-refurbished hotel in a beautiful Victorian building, which incorporates a lovely decorative homage to several important aspects of Brighton culture.
We were a little frustrated that check-in was 4pm but understand that the cleaners have their hands full at the moment (and the one cleaner that we did meet was so lovely and professional).
Our family room was large, spacious and impeccably clean. The hotel is very close to the wonderful Regency restaurant and a quieter end of the beach near the i360. We did not attempt parking at the hotel but parked at Regency Square, where there were plenty of spaces at 11am.
There was no air con in the room, so it was liable to high temperatures (during an uncharacteristic British heatwave). A fan is provided.
The one thing I would say is that the bar felt like a bit of a separate entity- it seems to be the only space with air con in the building but there was very little staff presence there. The one barman that did serve us was notable for his lack of interest when compared to the enthusiastic approach taken by the Reception staff.
I would recommend this hotel and I would certainly stay again.

Booked this hotel via a third party website after checking the reviews. On our arrival the receptionist wasn't very welcoming, she wasn't rude but didn't give us the greeting we would have expected, no welcome to the hotel or enjoy your stay with us. We booked a privilege double room with sea view. Our room (311) was exceptional, modern and clean, nicely decorated with a good view. The bathroom was modern and very clean. The toilet was situated behind the door on a plinth which was initially a little awkward but soon overcome. The bed was very comfortable and we had a good night sleep.

Breakfast the following morning was a buffet style breakfast, after giving our room number we could sit where we wanted. I have to say that breakfast wasn't the best, the bacon was tough, eggs rubbery and mushrooms soggy. I appreciate its difficult to keep a buffet looking fresh but more attention should be paid to checking it.

After spending a day sightseeing and shopping we returned to the hotel in the evening and decided to have a nightcap before retiring to the room. I ordered a glass of wine and a bottle of corona 330ml which set me back an eye-watering £16.40 I didn't ask but I presume it was a large wine which cost £12. The bar was empty and I can see why now, not much passing trade so hit the residents. We didn't use the bar again.
Breakfast on our final day was made to order so we presumed it would be better than the buffet breakfast, unfortunately it was marginally better but the bacon was still tough, and eggs rubbery.

We had a late check out (2pm) but chose to leave earlier (no reflection on the hotel) However on checking out there was no thank you for staying at the Mecure or, how was your stay? That was a little disappointing but nothing more.

Despite the few minor negative comments, we enjoyed our stay at the hotel and would return again.

We had a two night stay in a Privilege Room with amazing sea views, the decor throughout was very quirky but stylish and our room was large and very clean. It would have been good to have some drawer space in such a large room, also a coat rack in the inner hall of our room would have been good, as there was not a great deal of long hanging space left in the wardrobe due to the fridge and safe being accommodated within the wardrobe itself? So some items had to be left in our case. However, to sit by the window in our room with an early morning cup of tea and look at the stunning sea view was just magical.

Breakfast was rather a concern for us as we had seen the previous poor reviews, we arrived on our first morning to be told that the hot breakfast would be cooked to order that day as few guests had booked the breakfast option. It was completely faultless, really tasty and plenty of it, I asked for a well done egg which was perfect and all washed down with lashings of hot coffee. On the second morning we had the hot buffet, again everything was great.
May we mention Ben, and his colleague (also Ben) his service at breakfast was professional and friendly and nothing was too much trouble, faultless, thank you.

We were lucky with parking and managed to get a place at the front of the hotel, alternatively we had planned to park on the street until a space became free.
All in all we had a lovely stay in a perfect location.

The hotel is situated right next to the Brighton beach club and the I360 so good attraction opportunities and is right on the sea front so is an ideal location, however it is further than you would think to get to the lanes and the pier (a good 15/20 mins) This was not a problem as we like walking and exploring but was doing roughly 18,000 plus steps a day so would not recommend if you want a more relaxing stroll or are less mobile when still wanting to visit the lanes/ royal pavilion/ pier etc.
The actual exterior of the hotel could definitely do with a freshen up and repaint but nice enough, the lobby/reception and bar area were stunning and very quirky, it was inviting and felt very grand. The staff upon arrival were very pleasant and checked us in with ease, but the lobby is not a reflection of the rest of the hotel, perhaps the seafront facing rooms have different experiences but anyone in the mews section of the hotel were essentially in what looked like a premier inn that was attached to this beautiful lobby. This felt like a way for them to get people Into staying there because it’s so lovely when you first walk in and then the rooms and corridors are not very nice at-all, especially for the money.
The rooms very described as privilege rooms and I cannot comprehend what about them was a privilege, they did not have slippers, robes or tea and coffee like advertised, the toiletries they provided were cheap and scent less, the shower pressure was really poor, the room was boiling and the air con leaked when on, also the balcony was shared and overlooked other rooms aswell as literally no wardrobe space, just a small poll to hang about 8 items there were no draws and lack of charging points. It was an adequate room but was stupidly overpriced for what we got! Another issue was the parking was £25 a day and only if you can find a parking space in the tiny car park that you aren’t guaranteed a space. I appreciate the fact that parking is very expensive in a place like Brighton but when you have already spent a small fortune on a two night stay,
It was a bit much to add on top. We did not have breakfast or dinner because we wanted to explore and eat in the lanes but we used the bar and was horrified to pay £10.80 for a double Jameson and coke and then charged me an extra £1.70 because the coke dispenser needed changing so they had to open a bottle, that’s not my issue so don’t see why I had to pay more. They also were out of so many drink options, I had to work my way down the cocktail menu until they finally had something I could order that was available. So avoid the bar if you don’t want to spend £20 on two drinks.

Overall, I loved my stay in brighton, but mainly due to the beautiful places we discovered to eat and drink, the location and activities we did. I got a decent amount of sleep and the room was absolutely fine for an adequate sleep but was not luxurious or a privilege like advertised. In future I would stay in a different hotel because it isn’t cheap enough for it to be a stop over place but also does not provide the luxury like the price point suggests it would.

Don't book a Privilege room at the moment, as no extras are provided (no newspapers, water or robes) and my supposedly 'Privilege' Double room (Mews 156) was so small that I kept banging my legs on the desk and denting the wall lampshade as I walked around the bed. I'm glad I travelled alone, as a 3-night stay with 2 people and double the amount of luggage in the room would have been very uncomfortable. The receptionist tersely pointed out that I had a Nespresso machine (I'm not a coffee drinker) and disposable slippers (not a great boon when there are only 3 footsteps from the bed to the bathroom). The bar service is minimal & gloomy - plastic cups and unhappy staff compounded by dirty cups being left on the window sill which were still there the next morning . I contrast this with a large hotel I visited last week in Devon, which was happy & bustling whilst keeping everyone safe, and with a full restaurant and bar service in operation. Top tip - the Meeting Place cafe on the promenade does an excellent hot breakfast deal from £4.75, far better than any Grab & Go offering at the hotel.

Dear Moira Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Brighton Seafront Hotel on checkout and again here. We are sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow us once again to express our sincerest apologies. As an historic building our rooms do differ in size. Our privilege rooms are air conditioned, a huge benefit with the current glorious weather, equipped with Nespresso coffee machine and include robes, slipper, upgrade toiletries and bottled water. Items such as bed throws, scatter cushions and dress pillows have been remove from all rooms to reduce the heightened risk of cross contamination and I regret you think this safety measure meant you room felt soulless to you. If you had of pointed this out at the start of your stay perhaps a room with a little more soul could have been found for you. We are fortunate to have our bar open, as many hotels do not. Glass has been replaced with plastic to protect both our team and guests. Not to everyone taste I agree but what is during these unprecedented times? Thanks for your tip about breakfast at the meeting place, The band stand cafe is also a great favourite Sincerely, The Mercure Brighton Seafront Team
