Travellers' Choice
Hotel du Vin Brighton is situated in the Lanes conservation area, a pebbles' throw from the seafront. Its 49 bedrooms are housed in a collection of eccentric Gothic revival and mock Tudor buildings erected, appropriately by a wine merchant on the site of an old inn. Among many interesting features are a heavily carved staircase and bizarre gargoyles, while the original double-height hall now houses the wine bar and Laroche tasting room. The perfect venue for a picturesque wedding or party is the impressively large and airy Dome room. Out with the Brighton hotel is the wonder and inspiring town itself, with quaint streets dotted with fabulous shops, and of course the famous pier and promenade.

We stayed in the hotel last night in a room called Penfolds. Make sure you don't book this room! It's so noisy, like sleeping in an engine room, thrumming and humming coming form somewhere all night but ramping up from about 6.45 am. Terrible night's sleep. That's after we turned the aircon off! We got back to the hotel just before 11pm - we'd been to see Madness, and ordered from the Night Bites menu. Croque Monsieur turned out to be a ham sandwich with some partly melted cheese on the top. Took 35 mins to come and bore no resemblance to a croque that I have ever seen! Inexplicably, the cheese plate on the same bit of the menu could not be ordered - but that required no cooking...? Plusses? Good shower. Great barman on duty (but on his own in a busy bar), comfy bed, but very little sleep. Nice wine, though! I queried the noise in the morning but was told no one else had ever mentioned it. Not sure if doubting my experience is the best way to respond.

Very welcoming on arrival. Beautiful deluxe room with gorgeous bathroom. Bar is lovely and the cocktails on our return from our night out were lovely and the barman was friendly and chatty. Bar area was a perfect retreat on a cold, rainy day.

I booked the hotel's top suite as a treat for my husband for Christmas and to give him a much needed rest. needless to say we were not disappointed! the INCREDIBLE room aside (more on that later) the single best thing about the trip was the check in experience. we were greeted with a (mask-concealed) smile by Diego at the front desk who warmly welcomed us and made us feel like the most important people in the hotel, congratulating us on our room selection and promising us anything we needed would be seen to. we had noticed that the restaurant was serving Sunday roasts and asked if it would be possible to have one in the suite - this was not on the room service menu but he assured us he would talk to the chef. the room wasn't quite ready (we were a little early for check in) and so I asked if I could give him my number to let us know when ready and we decided to go for a walk along the beach, he kept us updated when the room was ready and even messaged to update us on the food. the chef was willing to do us a roast but really didn't recommend it as we wanted to dine at 6 and they technically stop serving roasts at 4, so he didn't want us to have an under-par meal - which we gratefully agreed with! when we got back to the hotel Diego was there to meet us and had already taken our cases up to the room (which I was very grateful for, given I have a bad back!) he then escorted us up and gave is the tour - the room was amazing - if you have a chance you should definitely try out one of their suites, two baths in the room, a rotating HUGE TV which you can watch in bed or on the enormous corner sofa, multiple seating areas, a fold down Murphy bed (if you have kids or, like me, a snoring partner!) and the best bit - a double shower, funny and sexy at the same time! ;-) the bed was immense and incredibly comfortable, I had a better nights sleep than at home. we ended up ordering the christmas turkey option to our room form the a la carte menu as well as delicious pate to start and cheese for desert with a bottle of wine. the meal was delivered promptly by 3 members of staff (we did, perhaps, order a little too much! haha!) one of whom was Diego, checking we had everything we needed and asking if we would like any additional coffee or bath salts for the room - nothing was too much trouble. the following morning we had coffee on our sea view balcony and breakfast in the restaurant - all of which was delicious and memorable. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, and especially their friendly, welcoming and delightful staff!

Lovely hotel. Stayed in a cosy room which was more than ample and extremely comfortable. The shower gel smelt amazing too but the most fantastic part of our stay was the breakfast. Great selection to choose from; we chose smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and it was simply delightful. Hotel was very clean and well kept. Highly recommend.
