Hotel du Vin Brighton is situated in the Lanes conservation area, a pebbles' throw from the seafront. Its 49 bedrooms are housed in a collection of eccentric Gothic revival and mock Tudor buildings erected, appropriately by a wine merchant on the site of an old inn. Among many interesting features are a heavily carved staircase and bizarre gargoyles, while the original double-height hall now houses the wine bar and Laroche tasting room. The perfect venue for a picturesque wedding or party is the impressively large and airy Dome room. Out with the Brighton hotel is the wonder and inspiring town itself, with quaint streets dotted with fabulous shops, and of course the famous pier and promenade.

We had such a lovely time at the restaurant in the hotel two Saturdays ago. The room our friend had booked for the occassion was perfect, the sofas were super comfortable and so useful for feeding (it was an NCT group catch up) and the buffet food was varied and delicious. Our server John couldn't have been more attentive and friendly and helped the event go smoothly. Excellent experience overall!

Nice hotel, lovely staff, and a great location. Whilst not on the sea front and limited / no opportunity for a sea view this hotel is located just back from the sea front and ideally positioned to access the pier, the Lanes shops, and the surrounding bars and restaurants. Really easy to get to with either a 15min walk down from the station or a short bus ride. We stayed in the Deluxe double rooms set in the courtyard. The rooms were comfortable, clean, nicely presented, and the bathrooms offered a roll top bath alongside a shower which was a plus! The only call out would be that they clean the courtyard early (6am at weekends) and it will wake you up! Best if booking a room to ask not to be in that area if you like your sleep. The bar is nice with a good selection of drinks and signature as well as classic cocktails. The in-house restaurant (Bistro) is also a nice choice for dinner if you’re in town for a couple of nights. There’s an option to be an ‘eco guest’ and give up daily house keeping in favour of a drinks voucher for use at the bar for every day you go without. You still have the option of requesting clean towels etc as needed. It’s pricey but you get what you pay for.

Came here for a private event with young a young baby. The host John took excellent care of our group and made us all feel really comfortable and welcome. The food was delicious and there were really good non alcoholic cocktails. All in, a very pleasant experience, thank you.

I was charged £443 for one night - paying a supplement to upgrade to an executive room. NO BREAKFAST INCLUDED!!! The room looked onto a courtyard and appeared pretty special however, once I got inside it was dark, cold and weirdly the bathroom seemed bugger than the actual room. The only heating was from a plug in oil radiator I found in a cupboard after the aircon unit failed to produce any heat. Plug in radiator??! Something my Gran used to use. I happened upon an old slice of lime down by the side of the bed when I plugged my phone in - which was charming. I had to go straight out but was back by midnight. At 1.24am I was woken by the person in the room above me who came back. To be fair he was just walking around, but the floorboards creaked with every move and when he dropped his shoes by the bed it was as if the roof was coming in. Same thing happened at half past 4 in the morning when he got up and wandered about. Around 7am staff started walking on the decking outside which had a similar audio effect. Also there was some "scritt scritt scritt scritting" in the night from under the floor boards - which stopped when I walked towards it. Sort of noise a small furry creature might make. You know the feeling when you lazily order a coffee in an "own roaster exclusive coffee house" and they charge you £5 without any sense of irony or shame - but its too late to say you made a mistake and don't want it? That feeling.

This hotel was such a let down and not what I would expect from Hotel du Vin. I booked for 2 nights - Friday 12th and Saturday 13th May 2023. I had a terrible nights sleep due to a really uncomfortable mattress which was soft and sagging. I mentioned it to the hotel staff in the morning and went for a walk leaving it with them to address. After around 3 hours I returned and it was clear that nobody had bothered to investigate. I therefore told the lady at reception I would go to my room for 30 minutes and wait for someone to come up or call me to discuss further. In the meantime, I took the bottom sheet off the mattress to investigate and was shocked to discover a urine stained, disgusting mattress. The pillow was equally dreadful. I had waited in my room for over an hour by this stage and nobody came to the room or called me so I then went back to reception and asked to speak to the duty manager. I spoke to a gentleman called Admilo who unlike the 2 reception staff I initially chatted to, at least took the matter more seriously and offered to upgrade me to a junior suite. I asked him to check out the mattress quality before I was given the keys to the new room - he did so, and confirmed the mattress was no better. This begs the question of what quality checks take place at the hotel. I have to add, the room I booked ( a classic room) looked tired - with windows which matched the grubbiness of the mattress, paintwork needing attention, a bathroom vent which was full of dust and bathroom grouting which contained God knows what level of bacteria. The pictures don’t really begin to demonstrate the level of shabbiness. To be fair to the hotel, they did fully refund me for the 2 nights accommodation and my room service given that I was not prepared to spend one more night sleeping on a mattress full of urine stains. However, having to go home early due to a complete lack of due care was not my ideal of an ideal 2 night weekend break. The hotel need to urgently review every mattress and bring the standard up to one which one would expect paying almost £200 a night and more. This is Hotel du Vin, not Travelodge! Sorry - but I would never ever want to stay in this hotel again until standards have improved.

Very large but still intimate restaurant just off the front. Ideal for parties both large or small. The atmosphere was relaxed, staff welcoming and attentive and service first class. The menu choice was wide, food quality high and prices reasonable. The wine list was equally as good. Not the cheapest restaurant but very good value given the quality

The decor was beautiful. Very HDV and didn’t disappoint. No lift but understand the gyro he’s in an old building. Bed comfy and super bathroom. Tired and disappointing terrace. Not the standard I associate with this brand. Tiny tv, no sky. Internet appalling. Had hoped to work. From the room but it was impossible…

My family stayed in this wonderfully placed hotel last weekend. I have never reviewed anything before. But, this hotel was truly remarkable. And the staff were by far the friendliest. They could not have made us feel more welcomed. Especially with our 2 younger sons. I would highly recommend a visit and please don't miss out on the wonderful breakfast. Thank you to you all for our memorable stay. Will be back in the summer. Moring family.
