We have just returned to Devon from a short stay at Jury’s Inn Brighton Station. Its proximity to the railway terminus and city centre is perfect. We received a warm welcome from a smiling, enthusiastic team. The room was spacious and comfortable and nothing was too much trouble. We would like to thank Betty, Serena, Diago and James for making our stay so enjoyable and we shall try to return in January.

Another month, another review of fatso on tour…. This booking is a first for me for several reasons, this was my first time in Brighton and the first time I didn’t have to pay for it…. (My other half stumped up the majority of this stay and i had a nearly expired gift voucher from my sister that she gave me 3 years ago). The hotel is literally on the doorstep of Brighton Rail Station, and is easily accessible (no steps) from the station to the hotel, whilst the outside could do with a fresh lick of paint, it slight dullness is largely due to it also being on the main road that leads to the Station Taxi Rank and Station Car Park. This means it experiences some car exhaust markings on the wall. We were greeted by a lovely receptionist by the name of Cassandra, someone both me and Alan hit off from the start, we always greeted her when passing the reception, and between our arrival at 2pm, that evening at 7pm and the second morning at 9am - she seemed to always be on the front desk - i even joked asking if she had gone home yet as it seemed like she had been there all day and all night. (She had been home, but it was brief, but she had a couple of days off during our stay). We were booked in an executive Kingsize room, but upon arrival, we were given a Kingsize Twin (Double + single), to be fair I prefer this as I am an absolute pain in bed - if I’m not tossing and turning in my sleep, I’m usually trying to hog the duvet or attempting to extract my other half out of the bed so i can claim it all for myself. The room included a mini fridge with a couple of Kitkat Chunky bars, and a few bottles of mineral water, being an executive room, it seemed quite spacious, but i did find a few things that niggled me - the window didn’t quite open enough for my liking, i understand that limiters are expected, but only to open less than an a couple of inches on a vertical reclining window is not going to permit much airflow in the room. I also found the lighting in this room quite dim, as there were no lights in the ceiling, only the two reading lamps beside the beds, a wall sconce beside the mirror near the room entrance and a desk lamp in the opposite corner of the room - whilst this makes dozing in bed easier at night due to the lack of bright light, it also makes things difficult moving around in something like permanent-twilight. The bathroom was serviceable, but I struggled with have a small bath - I’m a large chap so I fill these with ease and making any movements tend to cause flash flooding in the bathroom - my major gripe about the bathroom is the shower curtain barely being long enough to reach the bathtub. I use the shower a lot (sometimes for hours at a time, its one of the few things that help me sleep when i wake in the middle of the night) so if the curtain doesn’t allow the water to runoff into the tub successfully, again in leads to the bathroom becoming something a kin to a Florida Swampland (especially if the steam isn’t extracted sufficiently from the bedroom). We decided to the use the restaurant for breakfast most mornings and is the typical self-serve buffet arrangement, but the only thing I found to be disadvantageous was the large dispensing jars of fruit juice and water, due to the rubberised lids on top of the jars, it was preventing air pressure rebalancing which could choke off the flow of juice to a deathly slow trickle, the juice glasses are not very big (about a small whiskey glass) but it could take at times around a minute to fill with juice (unless you remove the lid temporarily to refill the jar with air). There was one final issue that arose during our stay, that did cause some consternation - the single bed I was sleeping on had caster wheels on all its feet, ordinarily this would not be a problem, however because of my weight, whenever i sat up in bed to lay on my pillows to watch TV, the bed would slide across the room causing me to fall backwards a few inches. The first night this happened, i wedged my shoes under the bed, to give the bed some support and help prevent slippage (the bed crushed the toe section of my shoes). The second night, I decided to put the lower two wheels of the bed inside my shoes, so if the bed wanted to move it would have to ‘walk’ my shoes - however this just crushed the lining in my shoe for when i decided to go walking. Eventually i asked for help from the Reception, unfortunately this was not resolved on the first day as the team was stumped on an answer on how to resolve the walking bed - in the morning they had considered offering me the use of their industrial hole punch machine to jam under the bed. The duty manager, Betty, however came to my aid on the 3rd night, with some assistance from me, we flipped the bed over to expose the underneath, and removed the wheeled legs from the bed base, 5 of the legs came out without difficulty, but it was the 6th that caused the biggest issue as it ended up requiring the use of an adjustable wrench to prise the last wheeled leg off the base. Betty apologised most warmly for my inconvenience and comped me and Alan a free meal and 4 drinks vouchers to use for the remainder of our stay. Due to Covid restrictions, the room was only due to be serviced after Night 4. We were only booked for 5 nights, so we did end up running low on consumables (Toilet Rolls, Bin Liners) by around Day 3, so we did require a top up from the Reception Desk before the service. Overall, our entire stay was memorable, and despite some personal preferences (window, bath curtain etc.) it was a very pleasant stay and would thoroughly recommend staying here… also it’s much cheaper than Jurys Inn Brighton Waterfront (looked nicer too, when we walked past during a trip to Sealife).

Good Morning ultimatesi, Thank you very much for taking the time to review your recent stay with us, we are pleased to read that you found our hotel’s location close to the seafront, bars and restaurants to be great, the rooms and beds to be comfortable, and our staff to be very friendly! We do apologise for the cleanliness not being of our normal standards. Unfortunately, external factors outside of our control have made it difficult for us to deliver our usual standard of product and service. As you have no doubt become aware, the impact of the pandemic, the shortage of available labour, and faced with supply chain issues continues to present significant challenges for the hospitality industry. We are working with our housekeeping teams to ensure that this issue does not re-occur and we hope that we can welcome you back to Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotels in the near future! Kind Regards, Melisa Customer Experience Team

The hotel is located right next to the train station and easy walk into shopping/restaurant areas (about 10-15min to the lanes) and to waterfront (about 15-20min walk) No hotel parking but Plenty of parking available at the station opposite although expect to pay £20-25 depending on arrival. I was fine was this as had already read this in reviews. Room was clean and comfy bed. Good sleep and good breakfast. Staff were very helpful. No complaints!

The location was excellent, The beds were very comfortable with lovely bedding. We stayed 3 nights and would have liked housekeeping to come in after at least 2 nights. No Mini bar fridge in the room, would be beneficial.

We are thrilled to read that you found the hotel to be excellently located, as well as the beds to be very comfortable. In regards to the housekeeping service in your room, unfortunately at the moment for guests staying more than one night, we do not offer a standard stayover housekeeping service.
