Thank you for your review. We will share your fulsome praise with all the staff concerned. The Mermaid is unique, rebuilt in 1420, retaining all her historic charms, but offering the perfect place to escape to and relax, at the heart of the medieval citadel of Rye. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.

I don't really need to say much here, as this place is very special, nobody who fancies and needs a bit of "chill out" time will be disappointed, the ambience is amazing, makes one feel so relaxed, helped by the most helpful and happy staff I have experienced. Naturally the Inn is steeped in history, the food is a cut...

Thank you for your review. We will share your fulsome praise with all the staff concerned. The Mermaid is unique, rebuilt in 1420. When Elizabeth I visited Rye in 1573, it is thought she stayed in Rye, but there is little evidence as to the specific house. Please be assured the independent owners, in place since 1993, always strive to...

This hotel is unique - unchanged over the last few hundred years but still capable of maintaining the standards that are required today. Our room was small but then again who had a big bedroom in the 16th Century? However, it was big enough and was comfortable with a good sized ensuite, although this was a bit dated, despite being...

Thank you for your review. We will share your praise with all the staff concerned. The Mermaid is unique, rebuilt in 1420, retaining all her old historic charms, but offering an experience that meets modern expectations. The menu is locally sourced and always prepared to order, hence the focus on quality, and taste. The menu will be changing from early...

The Mermaid in is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in. Not only does it have centuries of history (beautifully retained in the very walls of the place) but the staff are probably the most friendly I've encountered at a hotel. The places oozes character, charm and a real feel of the past. Spending time in the bar near...

Anyone making a leisure journey by rail along the Sussex Coast from Brighton to Ashford, who is in no particular hurry and has at least a couple of hours to spare, could do much worse than get off the little Southern Railway "Marshlink" Diesel train at Rye, spend five minutes walking to the top of the sandstone hill upon which...

I have been visiting Rye since I was a child when we use to go to Pontins at Camber Sands. We would always visit Rye whilst we were there and I have gone back many time but haven't stayed at the Mermaid since I was 14 in 1983. Can honestly say the place hadn't changed. We booked with a Groupon...

The Mermaid is a wonderful historic Inn situated in the centre of the old town. It has the advantage of its own car park. All the staff we encountered during our stay were excellent- welcoming, helpful and friendly. Our room was fairly small (understandable, given the age of the building) but it was well appointed with a good sized bathroom...

We stopped off at the Mermaid Inn for tea while touring Rye. The charming old bar had a roaring fire that warmed us up as we gazed at the surroundings. In one corner of the bar is a secret door. Evidently pirates used the Inn to hole up in between adventures and built a tunnel under the hotel that led...

Thank you for your review. The Mermaid was rebuilt in 1420, and has experienced the history of Rye. One of the most turbulent times was the 1730s and 1740s, when the notorious Hawkhurst Gang, "caroused" in the Bar, as mafia like they smuggled Brandy, tea and wool, from Kent to Poole in Dorset. Today The Mermaid offers a friendly welcoming...

Beautiful historic building. We stopped in the bar for a drink, which was lovely. Really nice cosy atmosphere with friendly staff. We hope to stay in the Mermaid Inn in the future. Drinks were reasonably priced, food sounds good too so we will return to dine at some point.
