We visited here for a drink and ate a meal in the lounge bar. What a great cosy atmosphere with a log fire. Lovely local draught beer and quality wine. We had steak and kidney pudding for dinner which was delicious; perfectly cooked vegetables and very filling!. The staff were all very friendly in particular barman Mike . We liked...

We went here for lunch to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. The Inn is a 15th century delight, the atmosphere is wonderful. The staff are very attentive and helpful and the food is superb. There is a extensive wine list.

From the moment we arrived at this lovely old Inn we were made to feel welcome and cherished. All the staff are friendly and helpful. Our two night stay included a delicious breakfast. We also decided to eat in the hotel restaurant each evening and were pleased with the service, food quality and surroundings. We stayed in room 17 which...

Booked for Sunday lunch, 3 courses £26. So well worth the money, the food, surroundings, staff were all superb. By far the best place we have visited in East Sussex. Going to book again now for my birthday. I would be surprised if anybody could fault this hidden gem.

We booked with a groupon voucher but even at full price this place is worth the money. This place is an absolute gem. The Mermaid Inn is an historic treasure of character, quirks, beams, low ceilings in parts, wonky stairs and floors (loved it) nooks and crannies. The footings date back to 1100's but this Inn was rebuilt in 1420....

Food delicious, service impecable and building very welcoming. A very nice place to visit for a first date! Tried the Venison for the first time which was delectable and the Pheasant which was very succulent.

The room was - lovely, old, wood-panelled and redolent of hundreds of years of history. It's not the quietest of places (creaky floors, thin walls) but that's all part of the deal. Bathroom was serviceable and the beds were OK. Great breakfast, beautifully presented and served in the dining-room. If you ask nicely, they will show you the 12th-century wine...

Thank you for your review. The Mermaid rebuilt in 1420, is unique, with so much history to discover, smuggling, Shakespeare, plus so much more. It is the historic design and age of the building, that makes the "great atmosphere", that so many guests and visitors enjoy. We will share your praise with all the staff concerned, who always strive to...
