The White Hart Royal Hotel is conveniently located in the market town of Moreton-in-Marsh at the head of the beautiful Evenlode Valley in the English Cotswolds. The hotel was and still is a great coaching inn. Its reputation was enhanced when King Charles I sheltered in the inn following the battle of Marston Moor on 2nd July 1644. A copy of the King’s unpaid bill is commemorated on a plaque within the entrance lobby.

Stayed here for 2 nights with colleagues. I booked a Classic Small Double but in reality the room I stayed in (Room 108) only has a 4 foot bed, the room is absolutely TINY. This room should really be advertised for what it is, a small room with a large single bed. If I had booked this room with my wife, there is absolutely no way the 2 of us could have slept in it this bed and the room is so small the person who did not fit in the bed couldn’t even sleep on the floor as there is no space. Talking of sleeping on the floor, if there was room to sleep on it, that might have been more comfortable as the bed in this room has the most uncomfortable mattress and pillows I’ve ever experienced. You would have hoped that the hotel would have made up for guests having such a small room and bed with a quality mattress and pillows but alas this is not the case.
I deliberately don’t stay in Premier Inns any more but this bed really made me miss them. Perhaps if they did away with the fancy coffee machine they could put the money they saved towards a better mattress and pillows. It’s a shame really as this place is a quant hotel / pub with a lot of character. Lastly and weirdly, despite paying more money for my room than my colleagues, for some reason I ended up in the smallest room the hotel had have while they got to stay in regular sized rooms.

We stopped for a couple of nights in late November. Hotel was warm and welcoming, loved the original part of hotel we stopped in. Sloping floor added to the character! Nicely decorated with period features. Food was excellent in restaurant and snug. Good breakfast fully table service. Mulled wine was a nice treat after being out all day.

A historical building located in a central location. The rooms are nice and authentic. The food presentation in the restaurant is nice however it could be more tasty. A perfect team with a warm welcoming.

Very special hotel - genuinely very old and historical. Service was off the scale great - i've no idea how it calls itself 3 star, as the quality of service from reception, servery and house-keeping is so much better. Comfortable and warm room with large comfortable bed. Obviously quirky as one would expect in a seventeenth century hotel. We wanted a memorable experience and got it - in a good way. The town is also one of the key towns in the Cotswolds so great to be able to explore it on foot. Highly recommend and would definitely return for a special occasion.

We were meeting up with my son and his wife, for his birthday, as he lives in Birmingham and we live in Hampshire. We had 4 rooms booked in total and dinner booked for the Saturday evening. From the moment we stepped into the hotel, the staff were warm, friendly, and very accommodating. We were each given an envelope which included our room key and the hotel information (bar/restaurant timings etc). My son was delighted to receive a birthday card in his room. Our room was beautiful, four poster bed, loving seating area and private courtyard. We decided to all meet for a drink and were taken to a recently refurbished room which was upstairs - there we could have a good catch up and giggle in private. The staff came to take our orders and not once were we forgotten about. Dinner was served in a small private area off the main dining room - we were made to feel very special and it was much appreciated. My son received a special dessert with Happy Birthday on it - he said it was delicious. Our rooms were relaxing and beautiful, we couldn’t haves wished for anything more, we all had a great night's sleep. Breakfast was served in the same dining area - again, we could not fault it, the food and staff were amazing! Thank you again for making us feel special during our stay, we will definitely recommend you to all our family and friends. We will be back!

We was on holiday last week and we called in for a drink in the hotel bar, very lovely atmosphere, table service from very friendly professional staff. We was made to feel very welcome. We wish we had stayed for a 2nd drink. If we are in the area again I would call in again or maybe stay in the hotel.

Wonderful stay, very attentive staff, would definitely stay again. The restaurant was great, food marvellous with decent portion sizes at dinner and breakfast . Bed was rather hard hence only 3 stars as didn't sleep well but the room was very quaint and very clean.

Welcoming and friendly staff. Lovely restaurant and snug. Touches such as bath robes and slippers were nice plus the luxury bathroom products. DAB radio and tv in the room were all good. Parking wasn’t an issue. Bed was comfy and bedclothes luxurious. Great stay and will definitely return.

The Only Way Is Travel wrote a review Nov 2022

The stay was a last-minute decision after travelling from Exeter to Chester with a stop-off on the way. The only downside was the room cost for the night, but that was more to do with the timing of the booking. There is parking at the front and side of the hotel, but it is public parking, so you cannot guarantee a space if you are driving. Our room was available on arrival, and the service at check-in was excellent, along with the bar and restaurant staff at breakfast. The Stable Room was cosy, with a decent-sized bathroom with a tub and shower. We had a few drinks in the bar but didn't eat at the hotel apart from breakfast which was excellent. We would stay again, but we will make sure we book in advance next time — an excellent hotel and great staff.

We recommend the White Hart due to its high quality of service and facilities. An excellent location which provides easy access to so many of the Cotswold highlights. Staff were hugely welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Diolch - Thank you!
