Avoid the Crow's Nest room if you are a couple as it is very small. Only one small shaving mirror in the room, which is broken and can only be used by sitting on the floor, if you (or the wife} need a full-length mirror you are expected to use the on in the corridor. The room has exposed beams that need a good clean (our room wasn't even cleaned on the middle day of our 3-night stay} Breakfast was good and so were the staff. I understand that the other rooms are very good but in people need to be aware of the limited space in the Crow's Nest as it may spoil a stay in one of the nicest parts of the Cotswolds

Despite the restaurant area not being overly busy we (and other diners) waited a very long time to be served drinks after being seated, and the same amount of time after ordering starters. We even had to ask to be served our food. The whole time the staff were joking around in the bar area, and there was an accident. A different server came to our table every time, and this helped to get the orders wrong. Completely unprofessional behaviour throughout. On the plus side, the food was good. Won’t be visiting again, there are plenty of better establishments in Stow.

After exploring Stow-On-The-Wold (a lovely town). I encountered a pub in the middle of the Cotswolds which on the outside looks a family friendly pub. Only to find TWO rude employees that work in the bar and who seem to be the front of house. If you’re in Stow please AVOID, there are many other friendly alternatives!!!

Our stay has been absolutely lovely. The room was brilliant, very clean, had everything you would want, the bed was super comfy! It’s dog friendly which we really appreciate. The breakfast was delicious, they catered to me being diary free. The bar has a great atmosphere and cocktails are delicious. It is definitely worth the visit. A nice romantic weekend for us. The staff are wonderful, I could not fault it!

Oh dear, it looks the part but doesn't live up to expectations. The guy that served us was quite abrupt, not very re assuring . You can't see your food as its so dimly lit in the bar area, too noisy , felt very rushed. How on earth someone can bring something out of the kitchen and not know what it actually is is beyond me....and burnt at that! Not worth the money...felt very ripped off. Felt as if people at the bar get more priority over diners . They need to have a re think on customer satisfaction, need more staff, one guy just rushing around is probably half the problem! What a shame. The food itself was actually quite nice but when you just can't wait to get away that's not the point really is it 🙄 maybe we picked a bad time to go. Not again though....shame as I wondered what the deep fried Brussels sprout with chilli n lime starter was like...hey ho!

It’s been 3 weeks and I’m still thinking about their Eton Mess and Sticky Toffee Pudding. We tried those desserts at all the restaurants we ate at during our visit to England and this place had our favorite. Our other meals were very good as well. One of the best beet salads I’ve ever had. Loved it. Server was friendly and helpful in making selections. reservations were easy to get. One of our overall favorite meals of our trip.

We stayed in fawn and row rooms They were so Dirty- the floor had not been washed in either room or in the bathrooms, there was dirty footprints on the floors. And in both rooms the paint was so shoddy! Dirty marks all over the walls, clearly have not been cleaned or managed in months In Roe room, the bed had been propped up with books! Bathrooms- mouldy in the shower, there was toothpaste all over the cabinet and water marks, so this obviously had not been cleaned at all. The shower head needed descaling, it did not flow out properly so no proper shower and the toilet in fawn still had something disgusting in when I arrived. The Dust in both rooms was gross, I put my finger on the cabinet and it was clear that this had not been dusted for weeks! In both rooms there was a dirty damp smell which must have been the mould The fawn room is situated overlooking the square, it was sooo noisy with lorries slamming doors all night and unloading, did not get any sleep! The sash windows rattled all night Rude and obnoxious servers at breakfast as well Avoid hotel!

Overall, The Stag is quite a nice, rustic, old-fashioned pub/hotel. However, we made the mistake of booking The Crow's Nest, which is described as 'characterful' on their website. It was the most uncomfortable night we have ever spent in a hotel. The room was very dated and not fit for purpose. The sink, shower and toilet were placed in three different areas of the room, the toilet in a tiny cubicle shoehorned in under the eaves. The sink was tiny and we had great difficulty filling the kettle in it as it wouldn't fit under the tap. The kettle was placed in a very small, rickety table, again under the eaves, and was perched on the edge, at full length of its cable (health and safety rules certainly being breached here). The shower was old and grimy around the edges, with water flow not great. The carpet was very old and the whole place was a bit grim and grimy. The staff were pleasant and friendly and the breakfast was OK-ish. I emailed the hotel twice after our visit (there was no one around when we checked out to talk to) but my emails have been ignored. Their PR/marketing company even sent me an email asking for feedback, which I gave them, but that has also been ignored. We probably did pick the cheapest room in the hotel but I was surprised at the low quality and grimness of it in such a lovely place as Stow on the Wold. We certainly wouldn't book a room at The Stag again.
