Free WiFi, free car parking, great room with a sea view, staff very friendly and capable, very grand old hotel, easily accessible, easy access to good restaurants in C.Southsea, nice garden, did i mention the view?, good food at breakfast (didn't eat in the hotel restaurant, so can't comment on...

The hotel is a large Victorian hotel with various size rooms with or without sea views. Breakfast is self service (normally) with a wide range of hot food food or continental offerings. Evening meals are somewhat expensive but the hotel is in walking range of multiply styles of restaurants. Beds are comfortable and clean and free wifi. The carpets throuout...

A really lovely hotel in a wonderful location but unfortunately let down by the bath being left dirty with soap marks. Also the bed had hairs on the sheets & the windows were covered in cobwebs. With a little attention to detail it could be a great hotel. We left feeling very disappointed 😕

After reading the recent reviews on here I was beginning to worry about my dad's birthday weekend in Portsmouth. However, we had the most perfect weekend and really enjoyed our stay at the Queens hotel. Right from the beginning the staff were friendly and so helpful. We were told if we booked a meal at the hotel we could get...

What the Queens lacks in mod cons, it more than makes up for in grandeur and elegance. The bar, entrance lounge and breakfast room were beautiful and the view out to sea amazing. Our room was clean, warm and comfy. The breakfast was very good and the staff friendly and helpful. Yes its a little tired, but really.... we loved...

I chose the Queens as wanted something with a bit of character as opposed to your usual "identikit" hotels. The Queens is certainly not the cheapest or most modern but exudes a real sense of grandeur and charm. The hotel itself is situated on Clarence Parade/Osbourne Road in Southsea and is easily reachable by car, or bus, (or taxi from...

Nice but in need of a bit of restoration, outside is looking tired. The room was large, clean and tidy, it had all the facilities in the room I would expect. Although there were menus in the room there were no meal times on them, I am still not sure what time breakfast started or finished. We just guessed and...

Always wanted to give this superbly located hotel a try, but in the event I was disappointed. The hotel needs updating. The rooms are dated, my bathroom was clean, but poorly laid out with the shower in the window (which was not obscure glass). The TV system is dreadful. WiFi worked well and was free. The hotel staff are friendly...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The original Queen's hotel was known as Southsea House and was built by the architect Augustus Livesay, in 1861. It was then a large private house owned by Sir John and Lady Morris and was later transformed into one of the first hotels in Southsea by William Kemp Junior, this is when it became known as the Queen's Hotel. In the late 18th century the Queen's Hotel had a yacht club that stood behind it called the Royal Albert and was also surrounded by woods, which were then called Stone Woods. On December 8th 1891 in the early hours of the Sunday morning a disastrous and fatal fire occurred. Aided by strong winds it raged until the whole of the premises had been completely gutted. The Hotel was rebuilt in 1903 by the architect T.W.Cutler into the splendid building that stands today, complete with its Edwardian baroque style in brown terracotta. ... more   less
