Our booking was based mostly on convenience. We wanted to visit the dockyard (10 mins walk up the road) and to use the car ferry for the IOW which is a 5 minute drive away. Plus you have the shopping centre outside and the harbour front a short walk away, with plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from. The room was clean and comfortable. We did ask for a quiet room and was given exactly that in our two night stay. The buffet breakfast served everything we needed. The only downside was there was only one lift in operation and the only working one appeared not to be summoned from the 2nd floor so we had to use the stairs to descend to reception and hotel entrance. Car parking was very convenient as you use the public car park next door with a fixed reduced daily fee of two pounds for hotel residents. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would stay here again.

Stayed here for the weekend and had a lovely stay, clean hotel with friendly staff. Had a bit to much to drink and ask to stay past 11am and got a complimentary 2 hours which helped massively Great location and had a very present stay, would definitely stay again

Stayed here overnight last night due to a meal out at Gunwharf. Excellent location for the shops and restaurants. Quiet, clean and comfy room. Good price for the location as well. Easy check in and nice breakfast. We stayed in another Holiday Inn last week when in York last week but this one much more preferable. Only downside was that the bathroom door was multifunctional and was the door for the toilet cubicle and bathroom, too big to close for the bathroom but didn't cause any issues. Will definitely stay again.

Have left a review on Hotel.com as below. Room very small with a view of nothing at all, very disappointed, and chair in room was very dirty. Surprised hotel charging as much as they do, I could not see the value at all. Breakfast, whilst plentiful, was awful! The scrambled eggs were grey, the sausages and inexplicable lumps in them, the toast was fine (but how can toast be wrong). Car parking is confusing, although validated making it slightly better, but essentially you end up parking at the shopping centre car park, not designated hotel parking. The walls of the hotel are paper thin and we were unlucky to have an adjoining door to the next room, and when the guests came back at 2.30/3am in the morning, we heard absolutely everything! I am glad they had a good night but this hotel is barely fit for purpose! Didn’t sleep a wink, bed dipped in the middle which results in sleeping a bit wonky, black out curtains great, but LED clock on TV lights up the whole room, deeming the curtains pretty useless! I am really unhappy and feel extremely disappointed with this hotel. It was a stay of convenience, but this hotel just isn’t fit for purpose. The complimentary breakfast was awful. On arrival we asked if we could switch rooms, and the concierge was really nice and helpful, although had no other rooms. He offered to reduce the room rate, which softened the blow a bit, but still £120, I don’t think even £60 a person is justified for the cramped conditions, dirty chair, so had to sit on the floor to do hair and make up, no view at all, terrible breakfast and no sleep!! If we had not had a couple of drinks with dinner, I would’ve left this hotel at 3 in the morning as I was so angry with the noise levels!

The best thing about this hotel is the location. Unfortunately we ended up with disabled room , which for me strangely having a hidden disability was my worst nightmare- having problems with balance , a wet room is terrifying for me We did try to change the room but the receptionist clearly wasn't interested stating we hadn't booked early enough. When I told her it was months ago she shrugged! . Breakfast wasn't great , the only healthy choice was apple, satsuma or a banana. Our room was clean , but the lift wasn't working which again caused me a little problem by having to use the stairs. On the plus side the location is perfect for walking to Southea and old Portsmouth.
